Thank you SO much for posting this. I had just purchased the edge trimmer attachment, put it on, and was shocked that the pull-starter wouldn't budge. I thought that I must have misaligned the attachment or worse. Whew! Your instructions were great! In a few minutes, I had the cover off and pulled the plug. Sure enough, it was fouled with oil. After wiping the plug clean and reinstallation, the pull starter worked, and it started. It was burning residual oil in the cylinder and shut down a couple of times, but after it warmed up, it ran like a champ, and I was able to use the edger. Thanks again!
You ARE the man...I just got a new Ryobi S430 and the pull string was stuck. I put oil in it and laid it on the side when assembling the trimmer. I followed your instructions and it's it running like new and that's because it is new...THANK YOU SIR...
Just had this problem with mine.. was scared it was seized but I maintain it well and didn't think that was the case. I had to clean the plug and use a little bit of starter fluid for mine. Thanks for the very "to the point video". Wish more people did the same.
Thank you! Just bought one yesterday, could not pull the starter rope. After going through the manual to see if there was something I needed to remove prior to starting, I found your video, followed your instructions, and it started.
Wow dude, look at all these comments from people your video helped. Add me to the list. Cord was stuck solid. I would have never thought of doing this but it WORKED! Thank you!
*Thanks for posting this buddy. I have same exact unit and ran into the same issue. I followed this video step by step, but no luck. Any idea what else might be the issue (pull is stuck). Much appreciated! 🏆*
I too am having the same issue. I removed the cover and then removed the plug and cleaned it. Checked to see if the pull was unstuck an it was. Put back together and still stuck. WTF?
I just bought a new one yesterday after giving up on the old one until I found this video. I may to leave work early to tackle this problem. I too thought the engine had seized, and given that I have had it for eight years was not reassuring to me.
Any chance you can do a video on string replacement for this s430? I got mine from someone and don’t have the manual and can’t find the instructions online

If the string is stuck but the spark plug is fine, what should i check next?
I have the same problem, spark plug is clean, did you fix yours?
What is the correct position to store this Ryobi S430, Mr Jmo?
Solved my problem as well!
Great video. Thank you
🙌🙌🙌 thank you!!
Thanks that help me 😅
Thank you!
Thank you very much!!!
Thank you🌞😎
Yes thank you, got scared i had to buy an new one
Does it lock up the same if the plug goes bad?
How you u get the oil out from spark plug hole?
Just turn it over to drain. and carefully get a paper towel in there to wipe what you can. Dry off spark plug and should be good
If you have the cloth and pole for cleaning a gun, that would work well!
Thanks you so much.
Thank you!
