This was AMAZING! I remember I was about 9 years old when I watched my dad playing this and Freespace 1 and Wing Commander back in the day on his pc. Ended up playing it myself and it was the best games I played. He passed away in 2014 and I would have loved to shown him this video. Im happy to finally know that theres a mod to play this game now. Love the graphics now. This is giving me Battle of Endor vibes.
This is absolutely incredible to see how far this game has come from its humble beginnings to the titan it is now. This just goes to show the heart and passion that you dont even see in AAA developers most of the time and im proud to see this game looking at its best right now and who knows Volition may have wanted it to look like this all those years ago
@@Daniel73-23 I may not agree with Watchmojo on most things they do in videos but at least they gave the #1 Space Combat flight Sim to Freespace 2. Guess they can be right once in a while lol. Now that Volition is gone I wonder what could be next for this IP

2:30 I REALLY had to blink because my special monitor enhances bright lights to a higher level than "normal" monitors! That HUGE blast is so realistically *bright!* Something I've not seen in a videogame for ages!!
That orion class in the middle of the battlefield for some reason always comes back to life and gets destroyd again and then reappears wenever shivan sps switches his camera to it

I love freespace and wing commander. I hope some day they will be new game like that. Because all of last titles are more about exploration, building and mining. But not about fighting as a spacefighter pilot in huge battles in history driven world .
Never realized just how "slow" moving all the ships actually are. I get it's for gameplay purposes though. There any mods for FS2 that has ships engaging from a distance and the fighters are actually moving really fast? Only one I can think of is the Diaspora mod.
Overlays? I think it's pretty easy to download the source code project and the media vps (file packs containing all the goodies) . As mentioned in description, they made it nice and easy.
For those still looking, you buy the base game off of GOG, then download and install the Knossos launcher. From there, you can find all the visual mods and campaigns in click-and-play format. I’d start with jaded’s mod packs for fs2 and FSPort. Chronologically the campaigns go FSPort, Silent threat reborn, fs2
And now to reinstall FS2. This is...inspiring. long live the net. Also is there a mod that adds the FS 1 flak back, or is that in 2? Spaceships vs flak was always so damn cool.
If volition incorporated torpedoes weapon system for all three races, resembles Star Trek's torpedo systems, as well as capital ships battle tactics, things will be much more interesting..

The path of the game directory is probably to long, a well known problem with steam. Move the game files to a higher directory like "x:\game\freespace2" instead of "x:\Games\Steam\steamapps\common\Freespace2"

Not so humble beginnings! Freespace 2 was the Best space fighter game in its day! It was my Favourite game when it first came out.
