We have a 16 Week Crazy Siberian Husky. Our second Husky. So we are familiar with the breed. My question is, at what age can we use an E Collar with our pup.
I got the garmin sport pro. You can pair 3 collars to 1 remote that way you don't have to carry multiple remotes and it's just a simple toggle switch to move from one collar to another with no lag on connectivity. My dog also jumped in a pond wearing it and it still works
One of my favorite puppies, ever! I love his happy-go-lucky disposition and his overall excitement. :-) With that said, my rescued GWP is 16 months old. She's a real sweetheart UNTIL a bird (or a bat!) are in view and then it's all bets off. Would you recommend the daily training collar or the one recommended for out hunting?
Thanks for watching! That depends on how much freedom you let har have. If you are doing free running we would recommend something with a longer range on it such as www.standingstonesupply.com/store?store-page=H2O-1820-PLUS-Remote-Dog-Training-Collar-p296673683
Out of curiosity, why do you start with conditioning tone/vibrate and not just a low level stim? Wouldn't this double the work when you want to start using stim?
Yes, the point of conditioning is to introduce the low level stim to the dog positively. Then you can introduce the tone or vibrate as an option with the stim as the reinforcement. No point in using an e collar as a safety if you can't get the dog's attention when it really matters or if you're afraid of using the stim. Setting people up for catastrophic failure in my opinion.
We usually recommend waiting until at least 16 weeks and making sure your puppy has a strong understanding through positive reinforcement of the behavior you want to collar condition!
So i really need to get started here but i have the garmin pro 550 plus. If i train recall to vibrate i have to actually turn the dial to stimulate. Should i tone train recall? Im really confused as far as what commands to train. My old dog was loosely trained to 1 beep was woah and 2 to come back. But she was whistle trained the same way. The problem was she would come back when i tried to use a locator beeper as she didnt understand the difference.
I just started e collar training with my GSP puppy. I have not noticed a visible reaction to the vibrate like trying to figure out what it is. She still completes the command. Would using the tone be better or do I go to a more distracting environment?
Thanks for the question! Tone might be a good option, but we would be better able to help if we saw a video of your training session or even set up a live video call to watch your training session. We can do both via Patreon. Check it out here: www.patreon.com/standingstonekennels
I've got a 2yr old GSP x who is pretty well trained aside from his terrible off-lead recall. He will often run 30 meters away / play keep away, and always trys to take the opportunity to slip out of the property and run down to the beach. With a long line he has great recall, but something switches when hes fully off lead. Do you think its too late to try and start e collar training for him?
I just started working with my 8 month old GSP on collar conditioning. I wanted to make sure I get a decent collar before I collar condition. So I started looking into y’all’s. Then after awhile I decided I better pick one up. I was just wondering if I started too late with him?
Thanks form this video. I'm living in Egypt but imported pitbull for Serbia. Please I have 2 questions. 1- can I use e collar on pitbull. 2- my dog is 5.5 month, can I use e collar in this age?
Im starting this collar conditioning on my gsp who is 1 year old and the vibration really scares her if I want to make sure im not messing up the process and still keeping the experience positive should I try to do tone instead? If so do I do the same thing and hold down the tone button?
We can absolutely help you with working through collar conditioning! Let’s set up a live video consult where we can help you through a training session. You can sign up for a paid consult here: calendly.com/standingstonekennels/trainingvideoconsult
Hey, it doesnt seem like youre worried about leash chewing. Is that a concern to you? Or, at his age, is it more "puppies will be puppies"? If you address it later, what age?
Leash chewing should be discouraged. In training sessions, sometimes we have to pick and choose what to handle or correct. In this situation, it’s less about age and more about this training session! Great question!
I love this training. I have 4 GSP and my youngest is the same age as Hex. I am working with him on healing and woah. He has been to puppy school with our breeder and trainer and has had collar training. Should a collar be used at all times or only in the field and when training? I have seen both.
My golden retriever 1 year old, listens to here command with treats, so i moved onto the e collar, did 2 sessions and seemed like it was going good but now when i put the collar on he seems to hid from me, should i continue training with collar?
You have to introduce on low “working” setting (low enough to get their attention) and lots of positive reinforcement. Our trainer had us do only come commands for a week, and then we would moved onto heel on very low setting and lots of praise. We started her at 5 months and it’s been a game changer. Especially with walking. Anyone who says this is a cruel tool isn’t doing it correctly.
This is something we utilize for basic day to day training. For hunting scenarios we utilize the rapt 1450 www.standingstonesupply.com/store?store-page=D-O-G-Director-700-p455970259
I’ve started my wirehair on the vibrate but he runs away from me when activated. Prior to he hand recalls well on the clicker but is really not comfortable with the vibration. Suggestions?
Dave, some dogs find vibration much more aversive than stimulation, both of my Labs included. Whereas low-level stimulation may cause an eye blink or an ear flick (if that), vibration may cause a clear startle response e.g. jumping or trying to run away from it. Either way, introduction to it while on the long line/leash to communicate what that sensation means is important, and I'd definitely pair it with food. Worth what you paid there...
My Boykin did the same thing. I stopped using the collar for 4 months and then tried again the last couple weeks.I don’t do it the same way this video does tho. I only vibrate when I need her to stop doing something. The constant vibration until she came to me was not working at all.
@@adamw4469 thanks. I have him on a check cord and have been using food. I'll give it another go in a few weeks, perhaps use tone. He already recalls very well without the collar, I may end up using it for stimulus here and there when he doesn't listen in the field.
I am a huge fan of your training techniques and how much you share with your videos. I am on my second Shorthair and currently 12 week old female. I am wondering, do you have a "checklist" steps in training your pups? I have watched and started with clicker training but am wondering where to go next and for the next few months before putting the ecollar on her. Any guidance is appreciated!
What are the next steps?? More of the same type of thing? How do you transition to taking to collar off entirely and relying on “here” alone? I used this method on my in-laws untrained 2year old GSP and he’s flawless with the collar but none responsive to commands at all without it.
If we are in a non controlled situation (hunting, park, ect) we always have a collar on. Fenced in yard is where you would want to work on the recall without an e-collar
That's part of the reason for the dog having the collar on when you're not using it and preventing collar awareness. Also, randomize rewards as well as making sure to always enforce any commands that are disregarded by correcting the dog. Never allow them to ignore you or you won't be able to trust them off leash.
@panzertooE-CollartrainingPA @StandingStoneKennels You cannot just throw your comments out there without explaining yourself. It’s absolutely not fair. As you can see everyone here has given amazing explanations of their thoughts. Otherwise your comments have no credence and you need not give them, you waste everyone’s time.
Perfect timing for starting my pup with collar conditioning with recall.
Agreed, thanks for watching!
I trained my puppy to vibrate and he recalls very well even when he's mid rabbit chase.
Thanks for following along!
Thank you so much. Great class!
You're very welcome! Thank you for watching!
I use tone to recall my dogs, my ecollar also has different tones. He's sure is a sweet little guy.
Can you do a leave it training video? Struggling so much with that one right now
We have a 16 Week Crazy Siberian Husky. Our second Husky. So we are familiar with the breed. My question is, at what age can we use an E Collar with our pup.
Thanks for watching. As long as you’ve done all the training prerequisites usually you can start collar conditioning at 16 weeks old.
I want to get an E caller for my 2 dogs. Should I get an individual caller and remote, or should I do one remote for 2 callers?
I would recommend 1 remote two collars! Check them out at standingstonesupply.com

It’s great to have young, flexible knees ;)
How do you teach the dog to differentiate the tone recall of the locator beeper when hunting?
They are very different noises and we actually beeper condition dogs to ignore the locate beeper!

I believe she's just using dog food, Eukanuba pro.
