My GSP is now 1 year old and we have been using your training videos since she was 8weeks old. Clicker, place, kennel, bird intro, whoa, gun intro training the whole nine yards. Thanks so much for making these videos available. They are invaluable to those who have the patience and will to succeed. FYI, thanks to you guys at 9 months she scored a prize one, 112 points on her NAVHDA natural ability test and placed 3rd In Open puppy at 10 months in her 1st NAVHDA field trial. She is now hunting pheasants, holding point and is in the beginning stages of retrieving to hand........thanks again. Hank
This training is very consistent to what’s worked on my Setters. So wish this information was around 30 years in media form. Great presentation Pink Gun Guy!
So glad I found this video!!! I have found you guys a week ago and have watched ALOT OF YOUR EASY TO UNDERSTAND AND THOROUGH VIDEOS, but THIS is what I needed, basically a list of what to do from day one until I can get my puppy to the field!!! I have a Poduel Pointer that I am scheduled to pick up on the 1st of September and I CANT WAIT!!!!!!
Hello I hope you are doing well.Keep it up with helpful videos, you are doing great job.Can you please answer me a question?I have a setter which in beginning had work very well searching near me 200 meters to the right and then 200 meters to the left and always coming back to see where I am.I hunt woodcocks. Now he leaves and don't come back but in his search he goes and goes farther I whistle but nothing. What do you recommend.I hope you answer thank you very much regards from GREECE
Wish I would have seen ground work included. One of the issues covey was having ( my Elhew as well ) is ranging way out at times. Ron had said she will take off in straight lines and keep running.
Question on a new pup in the house. How are they on hardwood floors? I am about 2 weeks from bringing a new GSP pup into our new home and there are concerns the GSP will scratch the new hardwood floors. I don't want to be exiled to the basement along with my new pup. I knew someone that let 2 beagle puppies destroy their hardwood floors with their nails. I think it is only caused by running and playing and hoping it is not something to worry about if the hardwoods is never allowed to be a play area.
Mr. Collier, I saw your advice to the guy with a setter mix he adopted. I would like your advice on my situation. I have a pure bred setter pup 12 weeks old. She is absolutely crazy about live birds. I have enticed her with birds and let her chase them as they fly off. My problem is so far she shows no desire to point. She has a great nose and follows it right to the bird but jumps right in to flush. No flash point at all. What would you suggest?
Hey I was looking at purchasing your easy lead at some point, what is the difference between the regular and the xl? I have a 72 pound gsp/blue heeler mix.
Couple questions 1.I’m getting a Belgian Malinois pitbull mix as a puppy they’re about 2 weeks old so I’ll have one in about 2 months I’m wondering if this breed is good for hunting ? I usually go for dove and quail but I’m interested in others. 2. At what age can I start training ? I heard 6 months but I’m not sure . 3.might be dumb but if I own chickens how can I train my puppy not to touch them.
Was Covey a dog trained by her owner or a separate trainer? Would you turn away a dog trained by a trainer if the owner wanted some polishing for their dog?
Would it be possible to turn my Great Pyrenees puppy into a bird dog? I was thinking if they are such good herd dogs, it might be possible. Only issue I can see would be that they get big
Thanks for watching our videos! It's not a stupid question if you reach out to Ethan he might be able to recommend someone local that sells birds! His email is listed below! ethan@standingstonekennels.com
I would send this dog back or place her in a pet home. She is missing an integral part of being a bird dog. You can train her to be "acceptable". She will NEVER be a dog with the "wow factor" I typically see in high class setters. Did Mr. Spomer include you in the acquisition of this dog? I simply struggle with folk buying a dog first and then going to a trainer to make a bird dog. Imagine buying a Chevy Cruise first, and then taking it to your mechanic asking him to make into a 4-wheel-drive pick up. ?!?!?!? She lacks style/intensity, and the flagging is simply unacceptable. I appreciate that y'all are GSP folk, but this setter ain't cuttin' it on ANY level....sorry.

Wow wow wow! Y’all are doing awesome!
Thank you for the video. I just adopted a 4 year old Brittany to add to my hunting crew and this was extremely helpful.

Thanks for being a fan! What kind of setters do you have?!
It's one heck of a testament to your kennel that Ron brought Covey to you. Big fan of his and hers. :)

Haven’t seen the strait line running here yet.. we can fix a bit of this with handling her and putting more birds in front of her!
Or can you make a video how to learn a pointing dog to work with the hunter and search correct and not goes to far searching.Thank you.

Your dogs will scratch your wood floors guaranteed. Keep nails trimmed up short!

New to channel, gotta ask, what’s the deal about the pink gun?
Hello, my dog does not aport. What should I do?
What does it mean when you say Okay

Would you turn away a dog trained by a trainer if the owner wanted some polishing for their dog?
Nope we just have an application process to try and match the right dogs with our program
How to stop on prey the pointer

Do you guys know when will the GSP 'Merica Hats be back in stock on your website?
Not at this time.. I am working on getting them back in ASAP!
@@StandingStoneKennels All righty. Thanks for letting me know.
the dog looks like a golden x dalmatian!
What a great idea! This pup is a English setter!
Maybe a stupid question but if you want to do this at home how does one acquire a bag of birds…

how do you introduce your pups to gun fire.
Search “Standing Stone Gunfire Introduction” on UA-cam! We have several different videos!
So how would this have gone down in the 1920s before electronic launchers?
