- Hello everyone,
Occasionally you get that interesting phone call which makes you think, oh, this could be fun.
This was one of those phone calls. Did we want to have the first look in a barn of cars.
Obviously we said yes, but what will start?
A video featuring:
Lawrie - presenter, excited by abandoned cars,
Matt - presenter, rather taken by one particular car.
An edit by Matt.

That alarmy sound from the MGs is indeed the immobiliser.
immobiliser, I don't like the sound of that.
A proper immobiliser...Stopped them right in their track, it did!
Yep. One in the first mg refused to work, even with new batteries in fob.
I have to agree with Lawrie. If it’s running - even poorly - it’s a win.
The MGF was very unhappy
I am renaming this series Call Lawrie and Co. to come and clear your shed. There were some interesting modern classics in that shed. That Bertoni X1/9 definitely needs some love and be brought back to its former glory.
Needs a lot of work!
That joyous beeping on the MGF is as Matt Furious Driving would tell you, is the sound of the engine immobiliser.
Yes, surprising none of the fobs had power.
It made no difference to they first putting a new battery into it, it was dead.
@@lmm common issue with the fobs. Although Matt now does have the tech for programming fobs.
@@huwdavies6650 that's worth knowing
excited to see what you find Lawrie
Second I'm afraid
Back in the 90's when I still lived in KC Missouri, I put a yugo motor in on of those Fiats for a neighbor. She bought the whole yugo which still ran and drove fine to do it, as I recall it went together very easily .
Oh really?
@@lmm yup, I think the yugo was prolly a weaker motor as it was very much a terd but still fun to drive.
I`m fairly certain that X1/9 would go again, relatively easily, but 1. fuel quality, 2. gunked up carb after sitting, & 3. points/condenser, which may or may not have been any good before it sat, & will now have added corrosion/deterioration.. The Jag should do as well (I could barely hear a work either of you said in that section), the 6-cylinders are pretty much bomb-proof mechanically, but the in tank fuel pumps dont tend to like sitting, & are an absolute arse to change, so maybe try a stand alone, in line pump...
What a great video. It is certainly an interesting bunch of cars left in the barn. I wonder what is going to happen to them???
Following the video they were shipped off for auction
Mg alarm will be immobiliser so probably need to lock and unlock it before starting
New batteries helped, but the first one remained entirely non functional
Great video guys. Funny as well!
Thank you very much
Fun to see cars not sold around here. Most of those are too new for me to know anything about but still interesting.
It's an interesting collection, that's for sure
Odd selection! The old 'everything should be ok' conversation! Best of luck with whatever you do! 🙏
It goes to show how much a car doesn't like to sit!
Y322 JAA is a 1.6; I owned one from new. Black door handles and air-intake surrounds; plastic gearknob instead of the cast-ali version; also the rear speakers (incorporated into the body brace) were deleted and replaced with a plain folded steel brace - but the speaker connections are still there under the trim so it’s a doddle to retrofit the brace with speakers (took me 5 minutes). Shorter stroke than the 1.8 so quicker to respond to throttle input and revvier overall, and (in my opinion) much more fun despite the power deficit and also the best soundtrack of any factory K-Series. Worth saving 🙂🤟🏼
See I've always liked the TF more, just looks a bit more angry.
I like the little blue SUV. That’s the sort of car I’d like to get in the future.
They are pretty good off road. Many years ago when the last generation of the Daihatsu Terios on sale I went to the once Royal Show at Stoneleigh Park in Warwickshire and a dealership was taking some Isuzu pickup trucks and a little Terios around a off road course and it was surprising how much of the difficult stuff on the off road course it could cope with.
They're not bad cars.
We had a chat about having it, but it was pretty rotten underneath.
Did the rx-8 start? I think there was another car or two that wasn't shown.
We didn't try it because Matt wanted it
Pity the X 1/9 didn't go. A bloke who lived near me had one when I was a kid. Shame it never had a hulking great twin-cam engine in it.
Me and Matt really wanted to see one run too!
lawrie unless its diesel or hasnt had the tank filled in about 20 years or was properly prepared for a long sleep ...your probably better off not starting them. rodents are the least of the issues but remember to check for houses in the intake and exhaust! remember to have a good smell around after you connect the battery smoke has this distinct expensive smell you cant miss. injectors usually gum up ..carbs get varnished passages and sticky seats. lets not forget gas tank and lines you usually do not want the bottom of the tank in the lines let alone the filters or combustion chambers.... lets talk seals gaskets and rubber diaphragms and hoses..... yup dry rot or hardening or general bad stuff not good for mechanical pumps or coolant or any of the other important fluids and of coarse brakes master and slave cylinder seals usually fail never mind brake fluid is water attracting which makes it less effective if your boiling water out of brake fluid... yes the will it starts are fun to watch but honestly if its something you want to keep and drive you should probably just bite the parts bullet after verifying nothing catastrophic was the reason it was parked . as always thanks for the videos yup i still want will it starts lol but there really not good for the cars
this is the run-on sentence of the century
@@caramelldansen2204 glad you liked it hope you enjoy the reply i would hate to disappoint such eminent authors as yourself
Totally agree.
But the offer was, do you want to come see what will start.
So we went, sure.
If a car is stood for a long time the solids in suspension with the oil will settle to the bottom of the sump giving the impression of clean oil
Interesting
Automatic likely needs to be in park to start
Apparently to the owner it should have started in neutral.
Guys in the States they have license plates in this country we have number plates!
Yes, our number plates are different to yours. They are the cars identity, they stay with that car for its life, unless you pay mega bucks for a personalised one, and even then, it's initial numberplate normally stays with it.
I present to you our new top gear presenter
Frankly I prefer LMM to top gear.
@@willallen7757 that's what I mean I consider lmm as the new top gear
@@charliegamage8862 excellent, we find ourselves of the same opinion which rarely happens.
Thank you very much! High praise!
@@lmm well you are better then the new lot on top gear
I would take the MG TF and the Mini.
TF yes, despite no bumper, mini sure if it was given away, cause they're not bad cars
Had an MGF 1.8 crippled me in repair costs.
I've heard others say the same thing..
ps i forgot corrosion engine ground switches relays and points ....but thats the revive and drive game
Yeah, ground could well have played a part
It’s alive it’s alive 😁😁👍
Some of it lived
What happened to mazada rx8 and Mercedes under the tarp?
Rx8 didn't want to start, cause a rotary has a higher than normal chance of being ruined if started.
Merc, we just ignored 😂
I wonder what happened for all those cars to end up there in such a state, errrrrrrrr, the "owner's collection"?
That was just storage, and the owner moved away
I like that you didn't plug the social media at the start, but you could of done it at the end. Also were you not allowed to put a little work in to try and get them to start?
Matt forgot to put it in.
We had limited time to film it - just filming what you see took the day - and wanted to try everything, rather than spending hours trying to get one to go.
Hi guys. Sent you a message via your website. See you.
Rob
I've seen it, will respond
What happned to the old dump truck?
Which one?
The cars will be in this auction - www.keysauctions.co.uk/auction/details/cl300722-classic-cars--vintage-sale/?au=122
Oh yes. Some of them anyway.
What's that moving in the boot about 5:30
I can't see anything?
I had 2 Rover 25s ☺️
Not bad motors
@@lmm no to be fair they weren't, a family friend worked for my local dealer, my first one for nicked and I crashed the second one into a Jag! 🤣 Then the dealer became ford so I switched to ford then
@@peddersmeister I've always wanted the Mgzr
The car you already have started. The car you don't want started. Yeah that seems about right.
Typical isn't it
Did you at least put the window up on the Jaguar?
No, left it as it was
Did you take the beach buggy then?
God no.
😎😎😎😎👍
👍
Is the old Jaguar XJ for sale ?
Everything was sent to auction after we shot this video - so it was, but no idea what happened to it
@@lmm how are you doing anyway as haven’t seen your channel pop up in ages
13:31 how bout putting the trans into P?
Did he not do that?
Your friend looks like 1960s Cher.
Cher wasn't as good looking as I thought then
Give the Jag a swerve unless you have deep pockets and a MiG welder
Oh definitely. It's also huge
As someone who loves Fiats, it's sad to see an X1/9 in a poorly state. Out of interest, what happened to all of the X1/9s that Morgan bought?
He gave up with them and sold them on
@@lmm That's a shame, I was really looking forward to seeing the end result! It would be great to see more affordable Italian cars on your brilliant channel. 🙂
@@Andy-eo3mq at some point it'll happen!
@@lmm Awesome!! Keep up the great work on your brilliant channel. As I believe you're based not that far from where I live, I really hope I bump into you 1 day, as you're an absolute legend! 😃
@@Andy-eo3mq hope to see you around!
We all know, most of the ones with carburetors will start and most of the fuel injected cars will not.
I'll take the beach buggy if I had the space...
Needs a load of work sadly
No RX8
We decided that as rotarys are a bit less forgiving then a normal engine, we'd leave it alone.
Realistically that's a proper check before starting job
fiat ...electronics....i think not electrical yes computers no.....grab a nail file pop the distributor cap file the corrosion off the points put it back together then try
It doesn't have a computer 😂
We assumed it would be carb needing a good clean after 6 years of sitting.
@@lmm What he's saying is that calling anything on the car 'electronics' is incorrect; you should say 'electrics' as there is no electronic component, purely electrical circuitry.
Nowadays everyone (notably the Americans, weirdly) seems to call everything 'electronic' when they mean 'electric'.
Cars in the 50's for example, didn't have 'electronic windows'.
Not the terrain for a mini? Clearly don’t know the history of mini too well then considering they were a well loved rally car for many many years
Are you saying that the pedigree of the actual Mini is there in the BMW?
Mine is on hard springs, low profile tyres and sits low to the ground. It is not in its element on a track.
@@lmm Unless racetrack
Hi
Hello
Hi there
I have the MGF. These where the British ones. The MGTF where more foreign.
The TF is as British as the F.
The TF was just the sucessor, under the Phoenix ownership, following a mild facelift. There are a few much later (post 2007) MG TF's that were produced in China, but most (2002-2006 reg) are just the MGF with a few new bodypanels, when the range was re-launched after the BMW sale..
@@OsellaSquadraCorse and minus the hydrogas suspension
Matt you need to tie your hair up or get it cut it’s annoying to watch you struggle with it every move of your head.
But it blows so gracefully in the wind
A load of junk
There's a couple of interesting bits in there!
That's the worst car collection I've ever seen. Send them all to the scrap yard.
We thought it was an interesting collection too
