BTBRV's Next truck will be Ram 5500 with pickup truck bed that is when they finally decide to make it for him. Like he's only mentioned to the designers 100 times already c'mon Ram ,, lol...
The best part is that put 3 cdl drivers together and all they do is drive and enjoy the drive and experience. Not surprised you all didnt just drive to the ike and test it and drive back lol
What a beast! HD trucks are going to be even more competitive across the big 3 next year. Can't go wrong either way, but my choice would be this Longhorn Megacab!
I have loved my 2018 Ram 3500 dually Limited HO 6.7 with Aisin trans since the day I got it, it is a pleasure to drive. I tow a 24' hard top bay boat from NC Coast to FL Keys and back a couple times a year, this Ram has made the trip very pleasurable. The boat with gear is only about 5k+ lbs and has the center T-top with wind resistance but literally can't feel it behind the truck. Providing they keep the configuration I have with crew cab/long bed, probably step into a 2020 model next year.
The two best truck guys in the business, Mr. Truck and Big Truck Big RV!!! That Ram is amazing!!!! Wow, is that a sweet ride. Time for me to switch to Ram from my Ford Superduty. I really wanted a Ram in the first place now I'm even more upset.
Love your unbiased reviews . The Ram has always been the king of pulling and longevity since the Cummins was put in and recently it’s been the king of capability ,stopping and now interiors . You are never going to beat the low end torque delivery of an in-line 6 for towing . A V8 diesel is just not in the same league for heavy towing . Not sure why Ram is the only one using an inline 6, but that Cummins doesn’t even care that there’s a trailer back there . It is the only truck that truly feels like it can pull anything you put behind it.
How true. I have a 44ft 5th wheel toyhuller gross weight is 20000. I have no problems pulling long grades. I live on the West coast. So we get to play a lot in the mountains.
The ultimate test will be the Ike to truly see how the Cummins/Aisin really does at elevation. I agree that ram has nailed it with the interior and I can’t wait to see it in person.
Wow, nice having Mr. Truck along! By the comments, this video has really stirred up the loyalist masses whether they be to Ford, RAM or GM. The best thing is that all 3 are making great HD trucks and pushing each other to excel, while us consumers benefit. Aw...capitalism at its finest! My 2017 RAM 3500 Cummins/Aisin Mega Cab SRW Limited is now at 57k miles without so much as a hiccup of a problem. I am in love with the exhaust brake, too. Limited level interior shames my buddy's Caddy. Mega Cab with 8 foot bed would be too long of a vehicle to park and maneuver in many places. Mega Cab is awesome with rear reclining seats and massive space when folded flat for weather proof cargo. Keep the videos coming.
Caddy has gone downhill in recent years. Wife's '16 SRX isn't any more comfortable than a base Equinox, yet the Buick version has a very nice ride and plush seats. Harsh ride even on the smaller rims. I think GM has been too focused on cutting costs rather than truly focusing on just making great products that people will live to drive, maintain, and basically live in! I mean think about, we spend thousands of hours in a our lifetimes in automobiles. Ram recognized this and said heck, let's make this thing ridiculously comfortable! You don't drive from the outside looking in, you drive from the inside looking out.
Speaking to how quiet trucks are today. Well I haven't sat in the Ram but I have in my friends 2015 Ford F-250. I drive a 2009 Lexus RX 350 and one of my hobbies is audio and to that end I've sound deadening this SUV from back to front with about a hundred pounds of sound deadener. Mass loaded vinyl, lead and foam. But I haven't touched the firewall. So one morning after getting off work at 5:30 am my friend said "hey come listen to the stereo system I have in the F-250". He fires up his diesel and in the very first thing I noticed was how quiet it is. I was blown away and I turned to him and said "do you know you're diesel is quieter than my Lexus starting up"? He replied "no way". So putting his stereo audition on hold for a second we walked over to the Lexus and I started it up. I kid you not it sounded like a mini diesel engine with outside temps hovering around 42°. He was surprised but being a diesel guy he explained that on cold starts it was probably piston slap from the direct injection. Ok. I'll take his word at that. Anyways he has a good stereo system now but the point is these diesel engines his and more than likely to Ram is quieter than my Lexus.
Still hate to see the manual transmission leaving the truck scene. I still prefer to run a manual when towing. No it's not everyone's cup of tea....I just wish it was still available. Great video btbrv. Looking forward too seeing that new bumper setup on your truck!
Luke K Ray I heard that the reason why they stopped using the manual was because it was taking up space under the hood. I myself prefer the manual because the Chrysler trans sucks. That is the reason everyone hates Rams, but if you get it with the Aisin trans, you are dandy.
JohnDeere/CatFan98 the engine puts out too much torque for the manual they were putting in it. If you got the manual it was defined to like 660tq, and the clutch they put in it was terrible. Now if they put the NV5600 back in or got an Eaton 6 speed that would be awesome
@@MrSamsamsammy Yeah that NV5600 is pretty solid, as well as the Eaton Fuller trans. If the did an Eaton Fuller, the Ram would be almost as good as a semi combined with the Cummins diesel.
Will have to step up to 4500/5500 to get the manual. :/ Sucks, but they have to follow market demand to remain highly competitive. Even the manual is gone in the new Corvette C8 now!!
When you going to be getting that Ram JD? Great information and video JD. My thanks to RAM for sharing the truck and time for you and Kent to drive and do the video.
What I am more interested in is hauling and towing performance capabilities and long-term reliability. All the platitudes about the interior goes out the window when the front end, brakes, transmission, u joints, rear end, electronics, etc start giving you trouble at 12 months in. You fellows have a platform to impart pressure on all HD truck manufacturers that what they need to concentrate on is 10 year reliability and lower cost of ownership. When your pedalling $100K units the buying public wants 10 Year trouble free motoring for this kinds of dollars. Again all the convenience and luxury amenities you described are nice, but pale in comparison to guaranteed trouble free motoring.
I agree with you, but do you have evidence that they won't? Sure you will have outliers, 10 years isn't that unfeasible. You also have to factor in planned obsolescence, if they made million mile trucks, they'd either be so expensive no one could afford to buy one, OR they'd go out of business because you never replace it. Look no further than Apple right now with their iPhone sales. The devices are so well made and improvements are so small, that people are not cycling them every year anymore, simply because there is no need to. I think that the closest we ever got with the kind of consumer automobile that could go as long as you say was the 1980’s Mercedes Benz 300 series and S class.
I agree. Too much emphasis is being placed on the whistles and bells. I just laugh when people say that they can't afford a new truck. You don't have to get all of the whistles and bells people. The truck will do the same job, ride the same way and in most cases be just as comfortable without the smoke and mirrors. Why are people so conditioned to, "if I can't have everything on it, I can't have it at all". I have been blessed to be able to afford the top of the line truck out there. Yet, I bought a 2018 F-350 dually XL. I selected options that would help me with towing and hauling and that's it. I love my truck and I treat it like it's my dream truck because I have no other high-end vehicles in my Fleet. The point is I only paid 60k out the door And my truck performs the same as the guy who has a 90k limited. The only difference is I have 30k in my pocket.
@@TheBigdaddy9448 Right on point but my wife's heated seats are very nice on the backside wouldn't mind them in my truck but I like you went with a XLT f250 in 2013 and it still pulls anything i have.
@@donleamon8653 hahaha the iPhone is a poor reference, it's losing traction because they never adapt samsung smokes it easily and now it's Apple copying them lmAo
@@BTBRVReviews So they have the 8ft bed with the mega cab on the 3500 right? Wouldn't that have more legroom? Edit: Hmm, maybe that isn't an option after all.
I have to say, after the last week of selling my rv to a guy that has a 2015 ram 2500 deleted. I love how the 6 inline cylinder cummins sounds. That I am looking into maybe getting something similar and doing the same thing.
No matter how you cut it a megacab is not a truck. It’s a car with more room and more power. Without the 8 foot bed it’s not a truck. If I can’t put drywall 2x4s plywood sheets in the bed without cutting them it’s just a car that can pull a trailer
Looks like a great truck but I really don't need one that big. Most professional truck driver will say that the only time they need touch the brake is to come to a complete stop. In our Diesel Pusher, I keep the exhaust brake on high all the time.
I was looking at ford Chevy and ram for a new truck I noticed the Chevy and ford both have 10 speed transmissions while the ram only has a 6 speed. Do you have a comment on this? Pros and cons of each how the more or less gears helps with towing fuel mpg ect?
I could not find it in the comments so I hope I am not asking the questions twice. Did your Ram dually have the factory rear air suspension in lieu of springs only? If so, or not, I would like your take on the RAM factory rear air on the 3500 dually. I have a 2016 3/4 Ram with rear factory air. So far it has really worked out well towing, I stay within payload specs. And really well who not towing, so much smother unloaded ride I am a full timer and will be selling my Airstream and moving into dually country now. I have no experience nor can I find a descent real world review on their 3/4 dually air suspension. Your opinion or experience would be greatly appreciated.
Hey I’m new to towing. An I have a question. I have the same dually 3500 longhorn Laramie an I have a fifth wheel. Do I need to turn on the tow/haul mode on an exhaust whenever I tow my fifth wheel?
Road Glide 5 + How about enlightening us on the 2019 Cat powered truck? Oh that right, Cat no longer has an EPA certified engine offered for on road use.
@@glennrobichaux7490 + Not off road, on road Cat powered truck. Cat pulled out of the on-road diesel engine market in 2010. They tried to make an emissions certified engine and after spending hundreds of millions of dollars couldn't meet the emissions, or engine longevity requirements. Go to the Cat website and attempt finding a Cat engine certified for on road use.
I found a 2018 Ram 5500 crew cab that is loaded with options plus the 6.7 and heavy duty trans. It has the leather interior and the heaviest tow package available. It also has 2 - 380 amp alternators well it’s loaded with heavy duty this and that and the dealership is selling it for $11,500 off it’s retail sticker. I contacted a company about installing a custom western box with the side enclosed storage compartments and so on. But I found out from watching your video the 2019 will have some better features plus the limited interior option. Would I be better off purchasing the 2019 model but in the limited model. As for the price of the 2019 being more isn’t a concern for me. I have a 2018 DRV 44 foot Mobile Suites Nashville fifth wheel. It’s dry weight is 24,000 - wet scale actual weight is 26,400 with most everything we own in it. Or would a F550 set up as close to the Dodge be as good or? I really feel I need a medium duty truck to handle it so any suggestions would be appreciated. It would be just your 2 cents worth nothing that you would be held to. I am a retired Chassis and Engine Engineer having worked for both Ford and GM now retired. But I have never owned a Dodge truck but a first time for everything. Thank You I just need a fresh mind to go with mine,Cheers
Hopefully JD will chime in here, but in the mean time I'll give my .02 from watch various channels here on YT. Unless your in a rush, I'd order a '19 the way you want it. From the NVH engineering for the chassis and cab that FCA has done, combine with the new Cummins and tweaked Aisin (isn't the AAM rear axle beefier too on the C&Cs?) seems like a no-brainer. Only caveat would be first model year sniggels. Second thing I'd want to know, how much rolling to you do with the 5th? Given 44' sounds like you're more of snowbird, than road-warrior tourer.
Don Leamon - Thank You for your reply. Most likely the truck wouldn’t be used to tow more than 500 miles each way or 1000 miles total. And not that often. We were in the last hurricane in S.C. and I had sold my tow vehicle still I ended up having to borrow a friends truck to move it about five hundred miles north where it was safe. I am not going to borrow a truck the next time although it was so nice of my friend to loan me his s. I am 74 now but need a truck to move it around and to Michigan possibly. I am not rich but will say buying a new truck won’t be a issue because of the peace of mind I would get in return. I might even be dreaming that a trip to Michigan would even be possible and our fifth wheel being our home it’s huge to tow. Although I still have my witts in regards to my driving ability and towing still with me it’s my wife that would be health wise of concern to me doing so. We just need an option to move our home on wheels if needed. So our truck would just be more of a life line and peace of mind as mentioned earlier. Cheers P:S. I will am taking your advice and going to order the 2019 model.
@@keepyourdayjob5658 are you going with the 3500 crew cab dually or a 5500 with a custom bed. The 5500 is more suited to hauling heavyweight like a slide in camper and all your tools and gear and towing a trailer. The downside on the 5500 is your insurance could be triple what it would cost on a 3500. A 3500 Dually Crew Cab with 8 foot bed and 4:10 gearing would probably be adequate to tow your camper the distances that you are going. I myself am looking at the Ram 5500 because I wish to carry a lot of tools and want a crew cab and carry a 6,000 lb slide in camper. The only huge negative is how much more my insurance would be over my current 2014 dually Ram.
What about the “alternate trailer height” feature, (I think that’s what it’s called) is that something that you think is needed when towing say a fifth wheel toy hauler or goose neck horse trailer? And I know this truck was a dully but what is your thoughts on the ram boxes on a srw with a fifth wheel? Thanks in advance.
BTBRV in your old videos from years ago you used to go through the underpinnings of these trucks, axles, suspension, frame, brakes etc. Can you do the same for the new RAM and GMC, and update changes to the FORD Superduty. Also, Aisin has been the weak link of the truck in the past. ZF has been testing with Ram to replace it. What are your thoughts on the retuned Aisin?
I have a question about the CP4.2 fuel pump that they went with that has given the other brands a lot of headaches, and left the customer with the tab saying that the warranty would not cover it. Basically blaming the customer for improper maintenance or getting diesel at the incorrect fuel stations. The question is, will Ram stand behind their warranties on this fuel pump for the sake of the customer. Can you get that question to some of the representatives of Ram to see what they say? Thank you
Can you explain the difference between an exhaust brake and an engine brake? Saw some thread about this, and not sure the difference and pros and cons of each..
If ram would come out with a 3500 mega cab long bed, id buy that beast in a heart beat. Maybe even a 4500 mega cab long bed, or the crew cab with a molded auxilary tank like the bed on the 8ft bed like the hauler version concept that came out. Those trucks would sell quickly especially for the hotshit and RV hauler guys in the market.
I would like to design it up for them. It would be the Ram 5500 mega cab with a 10 ft aluminum tool box bed. With a 2-foot backpack box behind the cab. It would have the ho motor with a thousand torque. And of course Laramie Limited. Then I would have something to haul my arctic fox 990 with all my tools and gear. And it would be able to tow my 14000 lb dump trailer.. the truck would weigh about 9500 lb and my camper with all my tools would be about another 8 to 9000lbs. I'll trade in my 2014 3500 Dually Laramie limited mega cab instantly.
Are the new Rams able to do a manual regeneration while in park instead of driving to complete one, I went with Ford a few years ago because I was able to perform that one function, it’s called an OCR or operator command regen, if these trucks are your daily driver with occasional towing it’s a must or you will someday be in the shop with a full DPF, why is no one able to ask or answer this question, I’ve posted this question on every channel I find, why, cause the dealerships can’t answer, I really don’t understand why nobody knows this info
Well.....since you forced a Laramie crew cab 3500 onto me last year, this would be a great chance to reach out with an olive branch by you getting yourself a Ram. Great video!!
I do like the new Ram a lot! I'm a Ford guy but this truck is gorgeous and in its own league. That being said, it would be so easy to make a phenomenal interior and exterior if they didn't have resources focused on engine specifics. If Ram didn't have Cummins I don't believe they would still exist. I have a slight bone to pick, if GM and Chrysler made their own diesels it would probably be a different story. The duramax is mostly a Isuzu engine, and that "10 speed Allison transmission" was co-designed with Ford and rebranded as an Allison because people trust that name (I would assume). I think the reason I support Ford so much is the fact that they try to do it all themselves. Sometimes failing but often succeeding. I won't back up Fords venture with triton or international. Best thing Ford ever did was leave those companies behind. Anyways, that's all for my out of context comment haha. Basically trying to convince myself my 2019 f250 was a good purchase LOL. I think all the big three really invest in their trucks seeing as they don't stand a chance in the car world.
Love your videos! Very informative and helpful. May I ask a couple of questions? We are considering a truck purchase. We know we need either a dually F350 or a dually Ram 3500 to pull the 5th wheeler we are purchasing. I expect our purchase to be a diesel with either the Lariat or Laramie package. The truck and trailer will be our home and we will travel a lot. We would like the smoothest ride available and the quietest cab while traveling at 60-65 mph. Do you have a recommendation between the two? Also, would you consider a Chevrolet or GMC? I have not seen any reviews on these trucks. If so, which would be the better purchase and the equivalent package using the parameters above?
The Ram is the way to go. Best in class interior, torque, and looks. It is also probably the quietest and most comfortable of the trucks available right now.
Is there any word on when this truck will actually hit the market? I know they're saying this spring, but I was hoping for something a bit more specific.
@@bigbossman5969 Really? Where? They aren't reaching the dealers around here and they are not showing up on the Build & Price section of the RAM website.

Did you say Mr.Truck . The Mr.Truck from TFL. Ford ,Chevy and dodge have made their competition a real one . Still waiting for Ford to show actual 7.3 towing capabilities. I love Ford but this time and day. All three are so good .
@1:40 that Prius has totally inadequate brakes even for stopping itself. In the future it may have carbon , carbon brakes www.brembo.com/en/car/original-equipment/products/carbon-ceramic-discs Toyota finally went to 4 wheel disks in 2010 , the future for towing is carbon.
3cutekidz I believe it’s variable, but it’s not like those at all. The big rigs use a compression release brake, and they can just change the amount of cylinders that it’s activated on. I believe this uses the VGT system to build back pressure and slow the engine down, and the more you hit the brakes in tow/haul the more back pressure it builds unless you just turn it on full. If I’m wrong feel free to correct me
The 2020 Limited interior is very nice. As nice as the 2019 Ram Longhorn? Not in my opinion. But people don't base their 1 ton truck purchases on interior alone. 10 speed in the new Super duty. 6.7l powerstroke will have more power and new fuel injection system. 7.3l gas will be out. and in my opinion the new 2020 Super duty trucks look wayyy better than the new Rams.
@@popwarhomie I can't afford a new truck so it really doesn't matter, but if I could buy a new truck I want a really comfortable and nice interior, and with the power numbers these truck have now that really isn't a factor anymore, it's about the bells and whistles.

As a 2019 f250 Lariat owner, I welcome competition to nudge Ford to get their act together and cut out the poor fitting dash, cheap steering wheel plastic buttons and horrid fitting seams. Even Fords seats need some craftsmanship. I can’t wait to drive this Laramie longhorn version to see for myself!
I just ordered a 2019 Ram 3500 Mega Cab Limited in a dually configuration. Who do I send the bill to since this video was the one that pushed me over the edge to pull the trigger on one?
I have that same trunk with 4:10 gearing from 2014. Too small for the arctic fox 990 camper though. Just received my 10th recall notice. This the newest one is concerning the drag link which attaches to the pitman arm has a nut on adjuster that will come loose., they don't have a fix for this yet and said they will notify me. PD diesel power in Washington also has a 2014 Ram and he has spoken of this issue which he fixed himself. Still like the truck, currently getting 15 MPG with 4:10 gearing and only 30,000 miles so far. May need the 5500 to carry the camper though.
I test drive prototypes and I can say yes and no. Yes because I believe that Dodge still owns Ram, and you get a lot of similarities such as similar parts for the interior used at tines and the UConnect. But that's basicly where similarities end. Ram is basicly doing their own thing and trying to make Ram different from any other truck brand out there. In my opinion, apart from maybe a Grand Cherokee Summit, it has the nicest Chrysler interior market to date. They use their own transmissions, chassis, and suspension. Of course they use some of the same engines such as 5.7 Hemi. But even then, they have their own tunes and make different power to be used as a truck engine. They seem to want to make people stop saying that Rams always break down and need repairs lol
Yeah, I’m a Ford owner. Like they said, you have to hand it to Ram on their new interiors. But I really have to question Jim on him saying “as nice as interior as any car”. Is he serious? He needs to get out and see a few more things.
All this sounds good .... But all the real wood , leather , camera's ...etc Build a truck without electrical issues , def issues , engine lights , airbag lights dealers can't fix ..... Do that first and I would love to own one ... " former ram owner "
David is spot on, unfortunately all of the big 3 build these high-end trucks with a variety of issues... The dealership's are clueless how to correct a lot of the issues.
@@raymondracca6717 But the engine is the most important, & expensive part of a truck followed by the tranny. Issues with anything other than the engine and transmission are relatively minor. Just look at how Ford dealers treat customers having engine & trans issues under warranty compared and out of it. Dodge had a bad reputation for poor quality control with their Rams, but the Cummins kept chugging along building loyal followers. Then Crysler separated Ram from Dodge and focused completely on building the RAM brand and the quality control, with the intention to take on Ford and someday dominate the the market. Ford should have always built a clone of cummins and Allison years ago. But instead Ford built their engines their way and made them too complex or too awkward to ready access so that you had to use their dealers to service and repair their machinery. Ram is no longer the Dodge that we have known about for decades for poor quality control. Ram is now totally dedicated to trucks, competing with Ford who has dominated the market for decades. Ford -- who is completely focused on trucks in NA -- will have to change their ways, as Ram, not Dodge, now makes' the best trucks and many ford loyalist are seriously considering a Ram, not because of the fancy "electronic" bells and whistles, but knowing the engine to get, the transmission and the axle ratio, ie. the most expensive parts of the truck.

Damn it so true I'm feel in more control with standard we all know a stick shift or manual
The only difference is I have 30k in my pocket.
totally on point

Right on point but my wife's heated seats are very nice on the backside wouldn't mind them in my truck but I like you went with a XLT f250 in 2013 and it still pulls anything i have.

I often wonder how good this truck would truly be with an Eaton fuller 10 speed transmission and the Cummins in that truck
Andy Smith it’d be awesome but impractical. A 10 speed needs an air supply, and most people can’t shift a non synchronized transmission
Thank you for finnally not being biased to Ford and being real about Ram. I'm a fan again. Great video.
I have a hard time remembering back far enough to know when I was biased towards any brand.
When you buying a Ram? Lol
When they add Wide Track as a Pickup truck option as well as offer a bit more rear seat legroom on the Crewcab with an 8ft bed. :)
Big Truck Big RV what’s the big deal with the wide track?
@@markc3341 The wide track front axle gives the truck a phenomenal turning radius. The turning radius for an F450 is about 7 feet shorter than a F350.
@@BTBRVReviews So they have the 8ft bed with the mega cab on the 3500 right? Wouldn't that have more legroom? Edit: Hmm, maybe that isn't an option after all.
@@Sevalecan The megacabs are shortbed configuration only.
When are you trading in your f450 for a ram 3500
Never. He would probably for an 4500 or 5500 tho
He had that f350 for a very short period of time.
How does the new Ram cog and mpare to your F450, towing and braking?
Those new ones are nice. Maybe one day I will be able to get one.
Yep, no doubt...
" Big Ram Big Rv ".... Sooner than later 👍
Looks like a great truck but I really don't need one that big. Most professional truck driver will say that the only time they need touch the brake is to come to a complete stop. In our Diesel Pusher, I keep the exhaust brake on high all the time.
Nice video, looks like a good opportunity to break out the mavric air...
I was looking at ford Chevy and ram for a new truck I noticed the Chevy and ford both have 10 speed transmissions while the ram only has a 6 speed. Do you have a comment on this? Pros and cons of each how the more or less gears helps with towing fuel mpg ect?
Have you noticed the Aisin changes gears harsher than the 68RFE? Especially when downshifting? I was told this is normal for the HO Cummins.
I absolutely love beast mode! 👍
Nice video. Didn't know u had a Facebook page. Going right over there to follow

Anyone notice the random F150s left on the side of the road in desolate areas during the drive?
Cheers
How much hitch weight did that hay-burner trailer put on that truck? My Sundowner TH puts over 4800 lbs on the hitch.
I wonder if the Tradesman model is also quiet (by how much?)
The sound damping is all trims
Yep I have a tradesman 17
The Cummins is quieter too. That would be across the board
Thank you
Love mega cabs
Can you explain the difference between an exhaust brake and an engine brake? Saw some thread about this, and not sure the difference and pros and cons of each..
Oooooh I want one. Sounds beautiful.
He said "hotshit" 😂👌
Keep telling yourself that, whatever make it okay in your brain.
Will Sigety Thanks!

Toyota finally went to 4 wheel disks in 2010 , the future for towing is carbon.
Does the engine brake have different settings like 2-4-6 cylinders like a big rig or is it just on or off...
Hi BTBRV. would you say that Ram and Dodge are separate companies, different quality, reliability, standards etc etc
Ram is the truck division. Dodge is the performance vehicle division. Both are under the FCA umbrella.
