  • There are pickup trucks and then there are pickup trucks. I’m talking about ones with dual rear wheels, diesel engines that push up to 1,000 pound-feet of torque and that can tow over 33,000 pounds. Well, that’s exactly the resume of this all-new Ram 3500 Heavy Duty. And on top of that, it can be optioned like a luxury sedan.
    MSRP as-tested: $83,670

    Some people say they'll buy Ferrari's or Lambo's if they hit the lottery and get rich. Me? A 2019 Ram 3500 Heavy Duty is all I'll ever need.

    To feel a pot hole for days is a extreme exaggeration. Sure, a 1500 rides smoother but when you step up to a truck with this payload capacity, there has to be a real suspension. I just used my Ram 3500 dually Limited 4x4, crew cab long bed towing my 24' bay boat from NC to Florida Keys. I-95 through SC and GA sucks, but I drove the 900+ mile trip in one day with just fuel and rest stops, in the truck for 16 hrs. Never got uncomfortable nor did my Wife mention being uncomfortable as a passenger. I have a 2016 Chevy Tahoe LTZ with magnetic ride suspension, it gets uncomfortable after 8-10 hours driving.

      @@justinmartin8887 You would have a valid point if I kept the boat hooked to truck as a daily driver! Last week I drove it 620 miles in one day (empty). Was actually a smoother ride than trip from Fl because I was traveling the roads across NC and back.

    There’s a lot of semi trucks out there on the road right now that don’t even have 1,000 ft lbs of torque. Of course they make a one ton pickup look like a compact and are built to go a million miles but it still shows you how far personal trucks have come.

    • @Cameron_7127
      @Cameron_7127 5 років тому

      Ryan Lange Forgive me if I’m wrong but on Cummins website they have semi engines going up to well over 2,000 lb-ft of torque if i remember correctly, I know not all semis are gonna have behemoth engines like those but plenty of semi engines I’ve seen are well over 1,000 lb-ft

    • @porscheguy09

      Unless you get rid of the DEF,DPF & EGR it will not make it to 1 million miles. There is a reason the pre 2007 1/2 diesel trucks are out there still running great while these new ones are having problems.

    These automotive reviewers always slay me when they try and do a review of a working truck. Just once I'd like to watch one of these guys that actually reviews the machine against the criteria it was designed to meet. You climb in the biggest baddest, heaviest duty working pickup truck on the planet, capable of hauling 3 tons in the back, and pull 17 tons along behind, and do it while the driver sits in a near ultra luxury car environment, and all you can do is drone on about how the ride is bouncy and rough when using it like a Prius. Come on man! Look behind you! You see that set of monster springs behind those 10 ply dullys on each side? That's why its "bouncy" when you drive it to get your nails done! It doesn't respond like a sports car because it's not designed to be a sports car. Its designed to haul massive loads up steep mountain passes! You probably should go review a Honda Ridgeline, you might like that better... it's not quite as bouncy! Oh, and when you do your next review of the latest Toyota Camry, I expect 10 minutes about its pathetic payload capacity! ;--)

    • @stevehammes
      @stevehammes  4 роки тому +1

      You're one angry dude. You do realize that this isn't a work truck, right? Not when it's spec'd like this one. And just a little advice; before you go cracking on someone you may want to take a moment to check out their resume first. I've forgotten more about trucks than you'll ever know.

    • @razorsedgeadventures6599
      @razorsedgeadventures6599 4 роки тому

      Steve Hammes New Car Reviews ha ha! That’s hilarious! I’m not angry at all, and I don’t think I said it was spc’d for farm work, but make no mistake that truck is absolutely a “work” truck! It may be spec’d that way to do its work towing an 18,000 lb 5th wheel, or a 45’ living quarter horse trailer, but it’s all about work! BTW, I have no access to your resume , and speaking of checking resumes, your making an awfully big assumption when you minimize my experience compared to yours. BTW, I happen to own a new Ram 3500 Limited with the HO engine and heavy Aisan transmission....how about you? I’m skeptical that anyone with your “resume” regarding heavy trucks, would dedicate so much time complaining about a 1 ton dully riding rough.

    The 019 Ram HDs are by far the best looking trucks on the road today. That said there are plenty of Ram buyers that have first hand experience with bad front end, faulty U-Joints, crappy rear-ends, troublesome electronics, and the list goes on. Ram should focus now on less electronic amusements, and more on quality control. For $85K these trucks should be trouble free for 10 years under normal wear, tear and regular routine maintenance.

The Chevy everything else was made or assembled in Mexico other than the motor. I’d rather risk a motor taking a dump than the whole truck. The Puppet Of Everything its way more than just putting a couple leaf springs on it. It has to stop safe too. It also need a good transmission that wont melt due to the extreme heat that heavy towing creates. The frame has to stay really rigid to make sure the truck drives straight too. If it was just for power, people would just tune their engine and tow crazy stuff with it but its not safe at all.

      @@RBZ06LT6 My point is people think it's way more complicated than it really is. The tow rating is completely irrelevant in the real world. It's really which company pays more to post it. Dont you find it odd how it's all perfectly round numbers? It's all bs. I guess if you dont know you feel safer driving a vehicle that has "engineers'" approval than one made on your own. Kinda a trust issue isn't it? Car companies will not be happy engine ded in 2 seconds. Yeah right.

      jet052673 so with YOUR logic, none of your vehicles have them so we don’t need them? What prevents anything from contaminating your fuel tank? Just curious. Do you have a door on your house , car, garage? What is your thinking behind this decision? There is a cap on your oil filler hole. There is a cap on your windshield wiper fluid. There is a cap on your power steering, brake fluid. But no cap on your fuel filler hole🤔

    • @XploreAz
      @XploreAz 5 років тому

      @@josephpockey1117 this isn't my design or decision. A lot of vehicles are going to this capless system. What contamination? The fuel neck is sealed with a spring loaded door that seals the filler neck closed until you stick the nozzle in. Then the fuel door closes against the fuel filler door. You really think automakers haven't thought this through? They've been around for several years now

    • @josephpockey1117
      @josephpockey1117 5 років тому

      jet052673 you must be brain washed! There are actually two of these spring loaded doors in the fuel filler neck. Although you have over looked one flaw, when opened whatever is on or around the spring loaded door goes in every time you fuel up. With a cap this is not so.
