He’s amazing. But he’s also very much made out to be something he isn’t by a lot. He clearly messed up a little in this video. Hit a couple few notes that didn’t lead him to where he wanted so he was looking for a way to make it work which stuck out. He’s just like any other human, flawed. He is not perfect. He has his good days and bad days. He knows the neck well and his intellect certain helps him “speak” music fluently. In classic music there’s a lot of musicians like him because they’re simply classically trained. But no one calls them gods.

As you say classical guitarist are classiquely trained, to excelle in classical.
What makes Guthrie amazing tho is his ability to be not only efficient and highly technical, but, also very creative, in a large variety of fields.
And now his work with Zimmer and the film industry makes him more polyvalent by shaping ambiants and sound design.

But I have followed all the so called greats and yes there have been some and a few who have flattered to deceive. Guthrie can shred with anyone and is one of the best along with Matteo Mancuso who can is equally adept. It all gets a bit "yeah ok I have heard you now, and I am getting a bit bored" But moments like the above show so much more feeling, soul, depth, call it what you will but it's very moving and you just know it's adlib stream of thought stuff.. It wouldn't be the same repeated and recorded. Hard to describe what all that is about but the listener and the player are sharing that virgin moment.. musician and listener are intertwined, both may be creating that moment as it unfolds. I don't really consider West Coast Grooves a Guthrie "Solo" Album. That's only because James Graydon wrote all the jam tracks and Guthrie just laid his amazing solos over it.

@@Caesar. yeah. It was awesome, but if I wanted to hear Guthrie improvise (which is absolutely mesmerising, don't get me wrong) I would have went to a show. I wanted to hear more of his composition skills like in Erotic Cakes. But oh well, that's life

The entire video is amazing, as Guthrie always is. However there's a moment in this that truly showcases his ridiculous ability to listen to what others are playing and effortlessly weave it into his playing. At 0:18 the rhythm player adds a little chromatic slide, you can see Guthrie visually react to this like "oh i didn't expect to hear that", he pauses for a milisecond and at 0:20 plays off that little nugget and turns it into beautiful ascending inversions turning that tiny quirk into a lyrical phrase. Utterly spellbinding to watch
