- This week, Michael "Fatback" McSwain talks about the origin of his nickname, padding his resume a little bit when he first got into Winston Cup, the influence of Robert Gee and Harry Hyde on his career, trying to make ends meet with team owner Richard Jackson, an INCREDIBLE third-place finish with Morgan Shepherd at Atlanta and how standing up for himself and his beliefs was one of his greatest strengths … and maybe, one of his greatest weaknesses.
Wow! So glad to hear from Michael; I was a big fan and missed him when he left the scene. Honestly, his departure from the scene made me question how I felt about the sport. If there was no room for a guy with the talent, knowledge, determination, and successful track record that Michael had, I wasn't sure the sport was evolving in a direction I wanted to follow. Thanks so much for giving him a voice. I can't wait for more!
Rick Mast won the pole for the inaugural Brickyard 400.
Such a cool guy. One of the last of the old schoolers whatever it takes racers. When you actually had to know something instead of someone
You find someone more real that Michael McSwain. I don't think you can. That is a great right there. Kept my boy Ricky Rudd in the fight deep into a lot of races.
Ricky Crudd
@@henry4072 you write your own material? If so, you need to do better. I would expect that from a six year old.
jason, your forklift needs gas. STFU
I still have a Ricky Rudd flag!
Cant wait for part deux!!!
Love the honesty on HOF.
Hope there is more to come. 40 minutes is but a beginning. Thanks for getting this great content guys!!!
It was just getting to when fatback and Ricky Rudd got together
Thank you so much for this series!
One of the best interviews I have ever watched. He has a true racers heart and tells it like it was when racing was racing!
Can anyone explain how a quality channel like this with all the information and knowledge from the movers and shakers of NASCAR, has only 4,000 subscribers - that's crazy!
Thank you so much for that comment. If you DO get it figured out ... let me know!
This guy is guy I can relate with, thanks good interviewer too subbing for sure.
Super Guy...Great storyteller!😊
Love this guy
Awesome interview!
Love that guy, good interview.
Great stories from someone in the sport at the perfect time.
During this era my brother forewarned me that Nascar was going to change. I didn't want to hear it and told him there was no way that could happen. I really miss that time..
That pic of Robert Gee I can see some resemblance of him in Dale jr and Tony jr
I've always like Michael..
Good interviewer. Nice to learn behind the scene.
Never saw a picture of Robert Gee but Dale Jr. favors him way more than big E
Doug Davis #93? I remember Mike driving the B&L Telephone car at Hickory
I 💯 percent agree about the hall of fame!!!!
Man if R and L Carriers would have come a few weeks earlier that 1 car could have had a heck of a season that year.
One thing he is the same way today. If he can help you he will, all you need to do is ask
They called it 'riding for the brand' in the Old West. Still not a bad character trait but rare today.
Fatback is cool!
Do an interview with Phelipe Lopez.
18:35 Savage McSwain.
NASCAR needs characters like Michael Fatback Mcswain in the sport again. I would love to see him get with a top team again now his kids are a little older.
I know who he is talking about but I'm not going to say he lives next door here in Dallas nc he has a auto repair shop in Dallas now
You need to find and interview crew chief Robbie Loomis from the 24 and 43
Definately miss Michael in NASCAR. No characters left.
Fatback hasn't aged a bit since he was last on the Pit Box
Find and interview Gil Martin next plz
So if Fatback is not in racing, where and what is this guy doing now? It's gotta be something to do with automobiles or diesel engines, right?
He owns a tire store in Dallas, North Carolina, near Gastonia.
I would say where he lives at but I will not do that but let's put it this way it's in the country and he owes a bunch of land that backs up to our property that has more deer on it than anywhere
Fatback Mcswain was one of my favorite crewcheifs in that era of nascar. I quit watching shortly after that. I'm a drag racer now built not bought lol.
It’s crazy how much Dale Jr looks like his grandpa Robert Gee now. He’s just a skinnier Robert Gee.
Holy crap now we know where BJ McCloud actually came from
You never worked for him then I worked at wood bro's for him.
Yikes. Pot DOWN on the host's microphone. I'll hit pause and allow the ringing to leave my ears before listening to the final 40 minutes.
