While I enjoy the interviews with the drivers, I enjoy more the interviews of the guys that worked behind the scenes. These are the guys that sacrificed greatly for their passion for racing and quiet often received little or no recognition. Where would Petty, Earnhardt or Gordon be without these dedicated people. These guys need to be recognized and y’all are doing it. Thanks 🙏
That made my day when he said he was going beat Harvick's fuckin ass in victory lane and then after Rudd passed him back, he retold the official to disregard of what he originally wanted to do to Harvick after the race.
Fatback is by far the best scene vault interview. All the details he adds makes it. He was always one of my favorite crew chiefs. Greatly miss this era in nascar
Great interview! Being a Rudd fan I was hoping he would have gone more into if the Yates offer was because Ricky requested him. Those 2 were great together, I feel like Rudd wanted Fatback to get the opportunity and boy did he do a great job. They should have won 5 or 6 races a year in the 28
I was a huge Rudd ran, and those years in the 28 were some of the most exciting Sundays I had in my life. I remember after that Richmond race the reporter asked him how he didn't crash when Harvick got into him, and Ricky replied "i'm just that good" LOL I loved it!
I loved Rudd and followed him a long time. Really enjoyed his time with Fatback, who I thought was a loyal and very solid crew chief. They came close to a title but just couldn't get over the hump. They nonetheless had some nice success at Yates. And Ricky drove two of the best paint schemes ever with Tide and Havoline!
I was always a great FatBack/Ricky Rudd fan and love this interview talking about what to me was The Golden Era of NASCAR. It is a really good show, perhaps your Best ever. Best wishes to FatBack...
I remember the Cale situation he's talking about. There was a guy named Burdette who was supposed to buy the team and that fell apart. Mast was there. Then Cale closed up and a guy named McPherson was supposed to buy the team and that fell apart too. Then Cale was completely done.
There used to be drivers that were characters in their own right before the 'cookie cutter' template guys today but behind the scenes there were a lot more real characters in the pits and shops. I still tell stories from crewing on short track late models in the 70's.
I gotta stop it at 28:00. This is a special race for me. I happened to be visiting my dad and we had the Richmond race on. When this punk new kid Harvick bumped Ricky, I told my dad, you watch this, that boy done messed up. Sure enough, you know what happened LOL! It was a good time with my dad and being from Virginia, just loved Ricky. Dad's been gone a couple years now, but I just remember, it was one of the good times which were fewer than the rest.
I was a Gordon fan but loved the era of racing at that time, it's not the same racing anymore, Nascar changed for publicity when they got extremely popular in the early 2000's
Fatback is a badass in a good way! I hope Dale Jr. will invite him to his show so he can tell the same story about how he wanted to kick Harvick's ass in victory lane at Richmond 2001 but Rudd took the lead back and won instead. That was hilarious especially when Rick started dying laughing!
17:15 fuck yeah!!! I’m a framer bro And I feel framing is a lot like racing! It’s a lifestyle!!!! I’ve worked for both kinds of bosses and all in between…. Fuck yeah!
Thank God you got that bit of absolute garbage off your chest, hopefully you feel better now.Insulting someone's appearance only highlights your own glaring insecurities and shortcomings as a decent human being......
@@davidh6818 Lol, what? Waffle House got me through school, because I couldn't be at home & concentrate to study if you know what I'm talking about. It's a wonderful place for people who work for a living. It gave me confidence that given the right environment, I could make it in life.
How bout pass along a message to Fatback.... there's a wealthy individual out west thats waiting for the perfect time to enter the sport as owner. See if he thinks he can find enough folks to start a two to four car program. Money is NOT an issue and sponsorship wont be necessary. See if this is what he's been waiting for. If so, please get back to me.

I really liked that era in nascar. Was a huge Ricky fan and liked fatback as a crew chief. Both guys are class acts.
Me too

Great stuff. Love fatback's down to earth nature.

I was at the Richmond race...took my dad to his first race ..and our 28 ...bought it home...so special..

This is one of the best interviews you guys have done
I am a huge Michael Mc Swain fan. Always and forever ♥️
Best interview yet!
Awesome interview. Fatback is just a cool guy.
Impatiently waiting for part three. I cannot wait. Great podcast. Keep up the tremendous work. 👏

Big Rudd fan!! I can’t wait to hear why the team couldn’t stay together!
Mcswain is a absolute legend in the sport in my book!!!!!!

I subbed just because fatback said you know where dw shop was? On past that. And you knew. Your imbedded bro. Respect.
Speaking of harvick, are you going to interview todd berrier or gil martin at some point in the future?
I remember the Cale situation he's talking about. There was a guy named Burdette who was supposed to buy the team and that fell apart. Mast was there. Then Cale closed up and a guy named McPherson was supposed to buy the team and that fell apart too. Then Cale was completely done.
I thought I remembered Ricky Rudd having a Yates engine in the 10 car a couple or few times soon before he went to the 28.
Great interview.
A great interview ! A huge fatback mcswain fan!
Man......what a great interview!!! GREAT JOB !!!

Brilliant interview with a real character
Fatback reminds me of my grandfather. Hard workin story teller. Fun vid.
Really enjoyed these interviews! Hey learned from a lot of greats! He did his thing and kinda walked away. Wrote his on ending!
Would love to be able to thank Fatback for making the 28 car that I loved so much win again
What a great comment on family. .... you love them all the time, like them most of the time. Very true statement

Love it, racing history.

Always liked him

I hope not, he can't remember anything to keep the conversation going at a relative speed.
I wish fatback was still a crew chief outstanding video 911 is also my wife’s birthday
After one of his victories with Rudd, Fatback said "That old Rooster is crowin' today"!
Was he referring to Earnhardt Jr who congratulated him after his first win? Cause Sr had already passed away unless somehow I got the dates mixed up
I'm pretty sure he was referring to Jr.
What a great guy, he deserve a lot better from the sport 👍👍

Fatback is the most NASCAR nick name you can get!
His memory recall is like pulling wisdom teeth🤪
The fight would've been better than the win!!
29:52 Your Welcome
9/11 is my daughter's birthday
Trust me, he's promoting Waffle House. His whole life is a testament to the confidence Waffle House gives you. Endorse.

This guy would give great testimony to congress…lol. Not sure..don’t remember..maybe..
Don't worry, Ronnie Hoover's dad was way harder on him that you would ever be.
