Carrie, I gotta thank you for showing us fellow mid-sized girls how you style your clothes. Every time you pick up a crop top I think how cute it looks on you, but I never thought it’d work on me. Until earlier this week when I found one I liked and decided to try it on for fun. I was amazed at how good I felt in it! So thank you for showing us that mid-sized girls can have fun with fashion! I never would’ve tried it for myself if I didn’t watch you.
I'm from Japan and it is very difficult to get affordable vintage clothing, especially in plus sizes. most used clothing in Japan is often at a 'premium price', and there are really few stores that cater to people on a tight budget. Anyway, I'm so glad you had a great time in Japan. x
I’ve had good luck at Mode Off if there’s one near you! Prices aren’t as low as off house but the pieces are better and definitely cheaper than 2nd Streets
There are lots of cheap thrift stores as well in Tokyo, but shimokitazawa is knows for vintage ✨ It is a really cool place though since all the stores are at one place
There's multiple "2nd street" stores in LA and they're my favorite thrift shops when I visit. You should try them, especially the one on main street! Similar to Crossroads but prices are MUCH cheaper
Saving this for when me and the guy go to Japan next year! I'm a size 16 and always hear how it's so hard to find plus sizes so this is refreshing For anyone reading, it's not thrifting but a great plus size brand in Japan is Punyus! The quality is amazing
I lived in Japan (Okinawa) for 5 years and thrifting was rough because 1) sizing sucked for me who was a large/XL and 2) most things were way overpriced. My fave places though were Mango Souka, 2nd Street, and Hard Off!
Japan is one of the largest buyers of vintage clothing in the US. They import literal tons of pallets of vintage clothes from the US. Thrifting in Japan is just buying overpriced things that were once here.
such a good and wholesome haul. alsooo haircut and color looks so good on you! love this vibrant knitwear too. makes me think you might be a spring idk
2nd street has actually made its way to CA and can be found in old town Pasadena. It’s very nice and is most similar to a fancy version of Crossroads or Buffalo Exchange. They are extremely particular about what they accept for buy ins.
omg I loved this video!! I'm a size 16 as well and I've been worried I won't be able to find anything in my size thrifting during my trip but this gave me hope hehe. everything you found was super cute!
There's a Second Street in the town where I'm living now (in Japan). I decided that I should go there once a week, so I've now been three times. I'm trying to control myself. This week I bought the cutest watch for 1900 yen and then went home and looked it up. It's a Japanese brand and it's currently for sale on the company website for $135! So it's not even old. Last week I bought two skirts, each were less than $3--one fits me perfectly--I was shocked because I am also 14/16. The fit wasn't great on the other one, but it's still cool.
Hi Carrie! So glad you had a good time in Japan. If you ever go back, I highly recommend checking out the flea markets instead for Japanese items and clothes. ❤
Great video, Carrie! Fabulous clothes you got from Japan, but I fell in love with the bright-colored top you were wearing in the video when showing your haul after you got back home. Where did you get that white top with the bright pink, orange & green?
This is my fav area (other than kichijoji) Flamingo was my fav shop ^_^ I miss jp so much . great haul! so crazy that you only found American things, maybe because we went to very different shops. I mean i did see a lot of American stuff too (there is a whole history particularly about denim of importing to jp) but I am really into brands like listen flavor, wc, eatme(lol for the name alone), swankiss, ect that it was kind more what i was targeting at and I found a lot of those. I know it's not helpful now but for next time check out closet child. there are a few of them (one in harajuku actually) and it's all japanese brands. they have several levels and styles there i think you could have found something there for sure.
Highly highly recommend season 3 of Articles of Interest (podcast) to learn about the exchange of American ivy style and vintage clothes with Japan!! It’s super fascinating and explains a lot of your experience.
There are “2nd Streets” in California, specifically one in Orange County that I’ve been to when I go visit. That one has more designer items but you can find some gems in there!
the last time i went to japan was pre-covid and i love shimokitazawa but there was so much construction going on when i went and it was very overwhelming. all the 2nd hand stuff in japan is very nicely kept by and large but it can def get spendy.
Holy cannoli. What a great trip, and such great vintage! Loved watching your vlogs ! Ps, I basically live 17 miles from where The Office takes place ( Scranton Pa ) 😄
Thrifting in Japan is awesome. I shop so much at 2nd hand stores here. Back in Europe the quality of the items have/ price has never been as good as here. But with that said you gotta shop around ofc.not everything is that cheap.
I can’t get over those overalls you’re trying on at 3:56 . My father-in-law, who is a farmer; wears those exact overalls EVERY DAY. 😂😂😂😂 so they are meant for an aging man who sits in a tractor. 😅😅😅
I paused on the Scooby shirt and was trying to read it. I can't really tell what some of the characters are, so I can't say for sure. But it definitely does NOT say "Scooby Doo."
Hi I’m Japanese. Just to let you know, there are thrift shops with Japanese clothing which is cheap. However, the size variation would be similar to a Japanese retail store so maybe not as enjoyable for Japanese plus size(US medium or up?) You’d have to dig for larger sizes…
Japan is number one on my bucket list. I want to go to DisneySea and also shop at Shibuya 101 in downtown Tokyo. If you’re still in Tokyo you must go! I’m shocked the vintage stores in Japan are that expensive! I’m used to expensive Buffalo Exchange and Plato’s Closet vintage shops here in Orange County, but they’re way cheaper than Japanese vintage stores! When I visit Japan I’ll make sure to bring my clothes to sell. Living in Orange County and going to Cal State Fullerton I have a shit ton of shirts emblazoned with OC on it that Japanese would eat up since they love US college shirts
What would you say are some of the main differences between thrift shops in Japan vs. let's say shopping at a Goodwill or Salvation Army in USA? Do most of of the thrift shops allow you to try on clothes? Do they accept American dollars to pay for things at either thrift stores or regular stores? Did you get your American money changed to currency for Japan in banks in Tokyo? Or did you get your money for Japanese currency in USA?
If you travel abroad to especially Europe or Asia the only place they might accept US dollars are international airports, you need to exchange your money, I think (I haven’t traveled since before COVID) the best rate for currency exchange is to change your money at your home banks, the airports I think are more expensive but also more convenient sometimes and then there are places abroad that will change your money cash or card to the currency of where you’re at. I remember in Japan there was little hubs with signs that I think said money exchange in the main shopping centers and you would line up like a bank or also use an atm to get money from your own us bank BUT those exchange rates also depend on your bank and their abroad / withdrawal fees.

I believe it’s from Target but can no longer find it on their site.
The sweater, the hair, she’s perfect❤️

GIRL, the Mickey Mouse vintage sweater would look so good with a pink tennis skirt and white shoes!
That colourful crochet top is fabulous and looks wonderful on you!
There are lots of cheap thrift stores as well in Tokyo, but shimokitazawa is knows for vintage ✨ It is a really cool place though since all the stores are at one place
that diamond white and orange cardigan sweater looked so cute on you omg!
There's multiple "2nd street" stores in LA and they're my favorite thrift shops when I visit. You should try them, especially the one on main street! Similar to Crossroads but prices are MUCH cheaper
Your hairs looks sooo good and especially with the bright crochet sweater! ❤
Love your Japan vlogs and this video! I would love to go to Japan, thanks for taking us with you on your trip 😊
Awesome video! I gotta say, that colorful sweater you have on is SO CUTE!! It brightens you up and I love it!

The brown sweater looks so cozy
hi Carrie! I'm your viewer from japan for 5 years and I'm so happy you got to enjoy trip in here in japan! Tour drift dins was so too cute
Omg the sweater you're wearing before you tried on the clothes can you please tell us where you got it from

With that being said - I'd still 100% thrift in Japan just for the memories of it all.
Oh well, if you got to go all the way to Japan to get the good stuff...!
It almost makes me wonder if those stores are catering to tourists. But maybe not. But there IS a niche in Japan for everything :P
But then heaven forbid you try selling/donating your own overseas brand clothes to 2nd Street. Suddenly there is "no market" for the stuff.
Agree so overpriced,id rather buy new ones for the same price lol
I love that sweater your wearing today so much!!!
Love the Scooby and Snoopy!!!! Their shops look so clean and organized.
such a good and wholesome haul. alsooo haircut and color looks so good on you! love this vibrant knitwear too. makes me think you might be a spring idk
THE BLUE EYELINER..... STUNNING
omg the desert snow store reminds me so much of urban jungle in brooklyn!
Ahhh! I'm pretty sure my mom had that exact Tommy crew neck in the 90s! Love this!
2nd street has actually made its way to CA and can be found in old town Pasadena. It’s very nice and is most similar to a fancy version of Crossroads or Buffalo Exchange. They are extremely particular about what they accept for buy ins.
I am flying to Japan this friday and your videos have really hyped up my excitement for the trip :)

So many great finds!!! Also very helpful to know that you can actually find clothing in japan if you aren't the smallest size
I love the sweater you have on!!!!

The yellow jacket you got is called a members only jacket! My dad was obsessed with them in the 80/90s. 😂
I need that Tommy Hilfiger sweater! I love it 🥰my favorite brand
We have a 2nd STREET in Portland! I wonder if they are a branch from the one in Japan? Like a franchise? They do tend to be overpriced.
Oooh I’m in Japan rn and this was super helpful❤❤❤
Crying at how cute the cat shirt is. I would die for a shirt like that 😭💕💕
I love your top in this vid so much! Where's it from?
That cat shirt is purrrrfect 😍

That letterman jacket is the high school I went to in Mendota Heights, MN… how the heck did it end up there ….
so, im going to tokyo in january and i just bookmarked all of that
I swear that crew neck Drew picked up with Taz was from the 90’s .
Not me seeing a crew neck from my small college AND one of my professors' small college alma maters lol
I paused on the Scooby shirt and was trying to read it. I can't really tell what some of the characters are, so I can't say for sure. But it definitely does NOT say "Scooby Doo."

I know! I had to do a double take when I saw that!

Carrie's issue is crewnecks...mine is hoodies. I have like 30.
