For me, Bic Camera, Yodobashi Camera, and Don Quijote are a must. Speaking of Don Quijote, you should check out the Shupatto bags, as they're extremely compact and convenient for shopping.
For Headphones and In-Ear Monitors/Earbuds, look for E-Earphone over in Akihabara. One of the best stores on the planet for specifically those products. They have them all out on the floor so you can test them out yourself. And they have some extremely high end stuff you can test out too. Basically the entire gamut.
I loved Uniqlo, just discovered there are some shops in my province in Canada, but the prices are much, much higher than in Japan... Almost twice the price for the products I purchased...
Japanese electronics retail stores are not places to negotiate discounts. Most people on the sales floor are temporary employees hired by the manufacturer for promotion, not by stores, and have no discretion for discounts. Since the store's tenant and labor costs are included in the price, discounts based on the Amazon site are impossible. (Unless you are buying several costly items in a bundle.) People who want to buy at the lowest price usually buy online, and electronics retailers do not target such people.
I lived in Tokyo for 15 years, my second home , then I moved back to Scotland. The buses are late, trains are late, interviews are late, cant get a taxi and now I am on happy pills from the doctor. Word of advice don't leave Japan as you get used to the convenience and efficiency and nothing compares. Plus people are polite, not pessimistic and downtrodden.
Australian. If you have ADHD Japan is a hard sell - no stimulants (i.e. ADHD med's) allowed. I'm also on medical cannabis for pain and that's not an option. To Japan's favour rent/property/food/shopping/booze (certain types excluded) is much cheaper. I live in Sydney, which I love, but it feels like what Tokyo endured during the crazy late 80's - people are being forced to move far away because property requires so much of your income.
I've lived in Scotland for 1 year, and, sorry to say, but never again. It gave me huge depression, mostly because of the greyness of Glasgow and shitty weather/people all the time. Just run away again bro
Loving these videos so much. It reminds me of Tokidoki. Its low-fi videos, everyday life on a budget and having fun. As a fellow Australian, hope she goes viral up.
Uniqlo is also a good place if you need extended sizes in Japan! One of the few places to carry them especially for such a reasonable price, although you usually have to order online.
Agreed. I just sold my Speedy 35 *hotdups* (I did keep the brown one), my Sofia Coppola perforated LV clutch, my blue Damier clutch I bought in Japan, and the By the Pool vanilla clutch. Kept an orange epi Alma. It feels great!!
The Yodobashi in Akihabara is even better. Always hit that place every trip. I've bought several head and earphones there and love that you can try them out first.
We have one Muji in NYC and it's just okay. They have mostly stationary, kitchenware and some clothes. The food section is actually just 8 snacks they offer when you're in line for the cashier. I went to the Muji near Shibuya Square and they had 6 floors worth of stuff. The retort food section is probably the coolest area with like 20 different types of curry to choose from.
We have 8 Muji stores in NYC. Soho, Copper Square, Williamsburg, Hudson Yards, Chelsea, 59th Street, 5th Ave, and Times Square. 5th Ave is the flagship store with a little more than the others, but still nothing like Japan's stock.
I noticed that you increased the frequency of your videos. They are fun and I do enjoy what you post. looks like you're also becoming the face of Tokyo Creative. I'm glad you're doing so well.
Anyone else remember the 2010s when every Japan UA-camr was there? Kinda wild how everyone was once or in videos from someone that works in Tokyo creative Now I still get surprised how small the world (or us Japan lovers online) is, cous my Japanese teacher from Mexico knew Sharla when she was with her first husband way back in the early abroad in japan, Aussie named Hannah, that Japanese American couple from Texas, and ofc the trinity always in every video early (kimdao okano Emma) of Tokyo creative vids before they were up in subs Also remember Tokyo lens first channel (edited never dig into iceberg Norm aka Tokyo lens really a whole character online and in comments lol) Damn got nostalgic while remembering 😢 anyway hope everyone and everything is well I’m never tired of watching them since around 2017ish still almost a decade later I’m still just barely Closer to visiting Japan 😂🇯🇵 so that TBT decade will be crazy when I finally go and experience the culture 😂
As a stay at home mom with three Neverfulls, yes I think you are right. I love them because I can fit so much stuff in them, they are great diaper bags and park bags, and when I go to church I like to zip up the sides to keep them more organized… in my eyes it is definitely a *hotdups* bag
I had the complete opposite experience and found electronics to be way cheaper in Japan than in the US, especially camera gear (makes sense since most camera gear is made in Japan). Of course, helped that Yodobashi and BIC have tax free sales for tourists, as well as additional coupons on their social media pages (usually on their FB page). I saved nearly $1,000 buying a new camera and lens kit in Tokyo than what it would have cost in the US (even from Amazon).
Was in Tokyo last month. Super excited to visit all the brands I love like Nanamica in Daikanyama, N.hoolywood in Harajuku, etc, and the things they have there in Muji and Uniqlo are just so different and cheaper than other parts of the world (even before tax return). That said, I did find electronic stuff to be an exception. An apple m2 macbookair costs almost the same as in Australia if you take away the GST from both sides.
Thank You so much for the awesome video, as someone who is going to Tokyo this year in October/November i really love and appreciate these awesome Vids you do that are so helpful thank you so much
1:32 "I'm here to buy headphones, don't know which floor they're on" While standing infront of headphones😂 Yes I know they're just the gaming headphones, but was still funny
Haggling in electronics shops is a lost art. Back in the days (like 80s and 90s), you can pretty much go to any shop in Akihabara, a big retailer or small mom and pop shop and haggle haggle haggle. They would all whip out a calculator on the spot and run the numbers. And you could really get great deals. Those days are long gone unfortunately.
You probably decided on headphones by now since this seems recorded months ago, but the XM4's and 5's are both amazing. Really, the biggest difference is that the 5's don't fold in half like the 3's and 4's. I had the XM3's for 5 years, and they were still like new after using them almost every day. I upgraded to the 5's this holiday season when they were like half off for a day. I love them and still use my 3's as my "travel" pair as they fold up much smaller and I'm not concerned about them getting beat up as I've already gotten my money worth out of them.
I have the XM5. They have great ANC for any flight I've been on. And as for shops too many lol We are going in April and half of the "things" I want to do in Tokyo is just shop. Few places, Tannuki Running co, downbeat running co, tabisuke tabizo, etc
I actually ended up grabbing the XM5's while I was back in AUS! (for a good deal too) I'd never heard of those stores before, they all look like good quality outdoor gear!
I've taken your recommendation on getting a muji suitcase. Future me thanks you for saving me the stress of trying to stop my suitcase running off and hitting somebody. Current me is crying because of the cost. I got mine with 20% off as Muji currently has a 20% discount on some luggage until 19th March, if anybody happens to read this. I'm in the Uk so not sure if the discount is worldwide.
For headphones, you can go to Fujiavic in Akibahara. One small details that only audio enthusiasts know, JDM. JDM stands for Japan Domestic Market. Some headphones and earphones are marked Made in Japan, Not to be Sold Outside Japan. That means it was domestically made for Japan market only. The rest of the world gets Made in China. That includes big name brands. JDM products are usually higher in quality, design, raw materials and the sound it reproduces. They are certainly more expensive but you get what you paid for in quality.
also, the sony WH-1000XM line of headphones are dope. they're a little too expensive at retail but if you can get them on sale they're 100% worth it. 47,800 yen is a little step but anything around 40,000 is really good value
The cat design store was adorable and the muji store looked fantastic 😍 and mount fuji bowls at the souvenir shop were so cute 😍 We have Uniqlo in India too but its really expensive 🥲 plus the proper winter clothes aren't that much use in a tropical country where it is hardly cold for maybe a month or 2. So a basic sweater is all you need.
Uniqlo is great…. But GU…. GU hits different. When I was working in Japan for 4 months I was stoked for Uniqlo, but it was GU that saved me from shirts, to the perfect small crossbody bag, to the Yugioh collab sweater!
muji and uniqlo are pretty popular here in Toronto (canada) too. they opened their first stores maybe 10 years ago? theyve been popular since then. also, that beams store in shinjuku is awesome. it's the only one that sells stuff other than clothing. i love beams for their t-shirts, the store in harajuku is also great.
If you go shopping in Japan, particularly in small stores, you find they welcome small change. So if you carry a containers of low value coins, tip it out on the tray and the assistant will happily count out the one-yen, five-yen and 10-yen coins. The background is that the consumption tax (which began at three- percent and is now 10-percent) means the final price becomes an awkward number which tends to soak up all their loose change. So some stores have rounded up, particularly so-called home-centres (DIY shops). Doing the obvious here in Japan can be the last thing tried. Jack, the Japan Alps Brit
I absolutely appreciate your videos, mahalo! Heading to Tokyo again next month, your vid’s have been a fantastic help in planning! Need anything from Hawaii?
I always found it funny how Japanese love IKEA when they already have Muji. Daiso is so popular in US. Muji is like better Daiso. Would be popular in USA or Aus
No need for Seera to wear foundation. Your naturally gorgeous. Wool allergy, noooooooo. London Muji store socks, pens and cutlery. Just awesome. Nice your treating yourself 😊.
Try "Santa no Soko" (Santa's Cave). They sell silk kimono for literally pennies. Technically used but look like brand new. Western chicks love dressing up and can be used as a dressing gown.
Also called "Smile Santa". In my neck of the woods, Saku, Nagano Prefecture, near the driving test centre and Book Off. Another branch on R18, Komoro next to Gusto restaurant. Near the Mongolian guys who do a good deal on car tyres. Research it on the Web. Silk kimono for around 1,000 yen. with obi and shoes. Not sure about the underwear. Try Higashi Ginza, Tokyo for s/h cameras. Jack, the Japan Alps Brit
Everyone told me to go to Muji in Japan but they're so prevalent in Canada it was a hard sell! However, I wonder if there are exclusives at the Japan locations like with Uniqlo? Also sidenote - Muji t-shirts are/were unreal! I bought a crap tonne in 2021 (the 100% cotton ones) and am waiting for the day they bring them back, all the new ones are a poly blend and just aren't the same...
As an Australian living in the UK I was surprised at the cost of technology here in the UK. I thought Australia was expensive but my gosh! Honestly Australia is quite cheap for electronics now days. If you have any friends or family visiting you, I would ask them to buy in Australia (haggling with JB) and get the GST back at the airport. As a kickback offer to let them have like half the GST refund. I’ve done this multiple times now.
Playstation overload 🙂About headphones: I got SONY WH 1000XM3 Wireless Noise Cancelling Stereo Headset and I realized that it does have built-in microphone. Thank you for Shopping tour!
Back in the day like 15 years ago , Global brands for electronics were much cheaper in Japan for things like Cameras and Head phones, but now When compared to Australia most electronics are much and camera gear is much cheaper in Australia even with the exchange rate. Also if your travelling overseas outside of Australia you can take advantage of TRS (Tourist Refund Scheme) even for Australian Citzens and that will save you a further 10%. great if you are loading up on big ticket items such as laptops or iphones (which hardly ever go on discount)
Love Yodabashi...get to play with all the expensive camera gear even saw a Hassleblad just sitting there for you test freely ...only Leicas you cant touch
Been watching a lot of your videos, different to the usual vloggers and feel like we're seeing some real parts of Japan, even in the typically tourist cities. I don't suppose you could tell us where the Mofusand pop store is in Shinjuku? We're heading to Japan next week!
I was actually looking for a place to buy a suitcase in Tokyo! I'm travelling in autumn and only taking one suitcase with me, but was looking into coming back with an additional one for souvenirs and other stuff that I'd buy while over there. Do you get a suitcase commission from Muji, Sarah? ;)
We have several Uniqlo in the Seattle area, including one right across the street from where I catch a bus home. I've never been in, but now I want to go.
When searching for a pair of headphones, most of the time, i'd prefer audio technica more than sony. Both are japanese brands but I believe ath offers you better in terms of price and value to performance.
omg MOFUSAND IS MY FAVOURITE !!! everytime i visit japan i always check out the store!!! im just super sad i always missed out their collaboration cafe which never happens in november sadly... :(
Woah Woah Woah.. I will be in Tokyo in a couple weeks and I demand to know more about these Racoon Dogs. Will they fit in a carry-on? No reason, just asking for ... size reference.
Is Tanuki Studio unisex? Love that racoon dog! Their website doesn't really say but prices are listed in £ which is good. More thinking about size than gender
It's so cute right! 🦝On their website I can see some products specify if it's unisex! If you want to confirm, you can send them a message in English on their chat box on the website or instagram :)
@@seerasan I couldn't see it on the website but that's probably me not looking hard enough. Will check again. Thank for responding and i look forward to having racoon goodness in my life very soon!
Yodobashi Camera was my favorit pick among these stores. While my interest in Japan might have shifted more towards the older parts and I might put Kyoto over Akihabara as far as places I want to visit now, but it was still all the geeky tech-stuff that originally got me interested in Japan and as such I would certainly have to visit at least one (and most likely multiple) stores like this if I ever go there 😀
I still have a duvet from Muji. The duvet cover is a bit tattered. I checked online and am able to order a replacement in the U.S., so might consider doing that soonish. It's a Japan-specific size so I'm glad they have it available here. I still have some stationery and maybe some other knick-knacks from there, too. I'd say Muji is equivalent to a Japanese Ikea. I used them to furnish my apartment in Japan, much like you, Sarah. Hot tip for anyone living in Japan: I found that you can buy restaurant quality kitchenware from Japanese second-hand shops, called recycle shops locally. Fry pans, pots, knives and utensils and the like. That's what I did. I liked Uniqlo's style, I've sort of categorized it as a Japanese version of Gap in the U.S., but I found their socks made my feet sweaty. I guess check what material they're made from before you buy. I try to look for socks made from natural sources now, rather than synthetic (cotton, rayon, bamboo). I think there are physical Muji and Uniqlo stores in New York. Also a Kinokuniya! I bit of a hike from DC for me, though. There was a Beard Papa pastry shop in Georgetown, but it only lasted a couple years before closing at the beginning of the pandemic (-_-). My favorite things to do at the Yodobashi in Osaka was to try out the massage chairs and also get coffee and espresso samples in the home appliances department. I did those pretty much every time I went there. One thing I've noticed since returning to the U.S. is that even small electronic items, like off-brand USB hubs, cables, power strips, etc., were much better quality in Japan. I took them for granted while there but really appreciate the difference now. I've never been brave enough to haggle at a store like Yodobashi. Props to you, Sarah! I did manage to return something once. That is honestly probably harder to do than haggling in Japan. The other shops looked really nice! I hope I get a chance to check them out someday. Thanks for another great post, and for unlocking some more good memories!
Awesome video!😊 Just a little thing, avoid sitting in stores' floor and trying on things. The main reason you cannot go with accessories in the changing room, is due to hygienic issues. 🙂
Ah yes, Muji... We passed by one and said "maybe we'll just buy a few things." Their jumpers/ sweaters are quite good though, and after getting a couple of those plus so many food items 5500+ yen later, our purchase became tax free. So much for "just a few things" 😅
is it weird to somewhat get homesick from Shinjuku area in general, im not the biggest fan of Yodobashi Camera, but i always walk passed them at one point or another when im in Tokyo (read Shinjuku) so in a sense i get somewhat homesick because i knew exactly where you were.
Which shops do you guys recommend in Tokyo / Japan? 🛍️
Also you got me.. yes this was filmed around Christmas time 😂
For me, Bic Camera, Yodobashi Camera, and Don Quijote are a must. Speaking of Don Quijote, you should check out the Shupatto bags, as they're extremely compact and convenient for shopping.

Try "Second Street". It's a chain. Huge range of products, stock changing all the time, and everything discounted into the ground.
The moment she said she was gonna haggle I was like.. this is not the place to do so.. smh 🤦🏻

Id love to see a video about japanese antique stores, where can you buy antique samurai stuff?
We have a uniqlo in Glasgow!! Although it sells cute wee bits rather then clothes.
For me, always Mitsukoshi and Ginza Motoki (for men's fashion).
セーラさんは、日本の達人ですね❣️日本人として、日本の良い所を発信して頂く姿勢に感謝しています❣️一度金沢も取り上げて頂けると嬉しいです🥹😃
BicCamera also sell alcoholic beverage at competitive prices.
Thxs for taking us for shopping in japan
Great list. I'd add Don Quijote to the list.
Hi!! First time viewing your vids. Very practical! Thanksss. I like your jacket!! Where did u get it??
I love Beams Japan Shinjuku! Highlight of my shopping in Tokyo.
Do you get a suitcase commission from Muji, Sarah? ;)
Definitely get a muji one! I wish muji sponsored me, I’ve already convinced like 4 people to get one!!
Is Muji suitcase expensive in Japan, would like to buy one
We have several Uniqlo in the Seattle area, including one right across the street from where I catch a bus home. I've never been in, but now I want to go.
When searching for a pair of headphones, most of the time, i'd prefer audio technica more than sony. Both are japanese brands but I believe ath offers you better in terms of price and value to performance.
omg MOFUSAND IS MY FAVOURITE !!! everytime i visit japan i always check out the store!!! im just super sad i always missed out their collaboration cafe which never happens in november sadly... :(
I like Loft and Tokyu Hands too.
Would like to add Uniqlo's affiliate GU. Its a budget but still fashionable version of Uniqlo.
Woah Woah Woah.. I will be in Tokyo in a couple weeks and I demand to know more about these Racoon Dogs.
Will they fit in a carry-on? No reason, just asking for ... size reference.
I’d love to see there dollar stores. Please. Your video is awesome
If you need a suitcase when in japan goto Giza Karen. Sooo nice. And sooo cheap. Solid value
You confused the hell out of me with the Xmas time. Thought I'd missed an old video! 😂
😂 can’t edit as fast as I can film hahaha

Yodobashi Camera was my favorit pick among these stores. While my interest in Japan might have shifted more towards the older parts and I might put Kyoto over Akihabara as far as places I want to visit now, but it was still all the geeky tech-stuff that originally got me interested in Japan and as such I would certainly have to visit at least one (and most likely multiple) stores like this if I ever go there 😀
I lived here for years and never shopped at any of these 😅😅 i should give it a try lol
Good sharing 👍🥰
Awesome video!😊
Just a little thing, avoid sitting in stores' floor and trying on things. The main reason you cannot go with accessories in the changing room, is due to hygienic issues. 🙂
JB HI FI is my go to store here in New Zealand 😄
yo!!! beanies so cute on you, somehow the raccoon is so cute on it, idk hahahha
Thank you! So cute right!! 🦝
Donki and Tokyu Hands are my go to first stores.
Nice one.
4:32 So cute!
Where do you haggle in Japan, that's never been a thing as far as I know for most stores unless its a used goods store or maybe a mom and pop store.
I miss shopping in Japan. I had to buy another suitcase last time I was there so I can fit everything I bought 😂
All this time I thought you were on vacation. I did not realize you were in Japan for work
I would give Seerasan a 100% discount for the headphones and get fired the next day
Tokio ist der beste Ort
Bin nächste Woche wieder dort😁🥳
Frohe Ostern
I found eBay can be a good place to score a discount pair of headphones. Offical Sony seconds XM4 👍🏻
Don Quixote is a fun store.
