The most hilarious part to me was the first time you get in a car. Someone yells “get out of here fast!” And then you slowly pull off in a model T at a top speed of 30 mph 🤣
Incorrect, Henry Ford named the automobile the “ford model T” because it was the newly made model that came after the ford model S. Production began in 1903 when ford model A was introduced, followed by a ford model B and a ford model C. Later in the late twenties and early thirties, henry started the alphabet again with the new and improvised ford model A to show that it did not have a connection with the model T.

This game has some really impressive reflections, especially when it's raining. I know it's become pretty standard in games recently but they did a damn good job with the lighting and reflections imo. Loving it so far.
They should remake the first Godfather game. Open world, you could extort businesses, blow up rival family businesses, where houses, overall better than mafia.
The big thing about Mafia for me has always been the ambiance, and this one nails the 1930's. Great choice of songs and the city is beautiful. It was also the reason for me to like Mafia 3, loved that late 60s early 70s feeling, being in the swamps with some rock on the radio.
Goddamn right. After playing definitive edition of mafia 1 I’m gonna go back through all of them. Got me back into this game style and god, I agree, the ambience in these games in the settings is unmatched. Just so good.
The feelings and vibes this game brings makes it soooo good for me. One of the most underlying features i love is the vehicle gas depletion/refill. Im too simple
From watching this I can say that the driving in the old Mafia seems so much better. Also the fact that I could roam around, steal cars and set them in the backyard of the safe house without them disappear had to be my favorite thing about the game.
I just finished the game today. It was my first time playing the game and I had no regrets with the purchase. The story was so rich along with the scenes, lighting, and music. Especially the music
I'm playing this right now in 2024. I've currently played and beaten the previous 3 years ago.... Playing this one all over again in 4k is such a breath of fresh air. I feel like they couldn't make this game this game today... This was very well done, the city looks and sounds beautiful
Yea me too. I actually finished it in 2 sitting. Played til the race mission and had to take a break and the next day finished it. Not going to lie the race mission almost made me uninstall the game. I been looking for a good story based game for month and bite the bullet and glad i did. I havent played a single player game in last 5 years and decided to play because multi/esport games are just toxic. Starting mafia 2 tomorrow and cant wait.

Exactly! I get chased constantly, im sure he has simulation turned off he said he turned it up but maybe he has traffic set to low (not sure that''s an option) On my game they are all over.
I'm with you in liking that it "feels old", I bought this recently to test my new graphics card and it was really cool to have the same gameplay feel I remember from college years (Nostalgia=++) while experiencing some beautifully stunning graphics.
I loved the first Mafia! It was so different from GTA. The cops actually going after you for breaking laws was surprising and actually fun. I hated that race mission. It almost made me quit playing the game, but I finally passed it and was glad I did. I didn't mind the linear gameplay. It keeps you immersed in the story.
The race mission gave me bitter feelings about Mafia for 20 years. I mean, just whenever I'd think about it. "Gah! That level!" It's because I played it in high school and it was just as I was gaining momentum, getting better at the game, and truly enjoying it... Just completed it now! Looks like they added difficulty levels before the race that you could change. I put it on the easiest! lol. So now I feel pretty great about Mafia, although I hate how that level ruined it. Otherwise, it's a great game... About to buy the Definitive Edition, here we go again with the racing level...
I started with Mafia II and never got to play this one until this remake and as a huge Mafia fan this game is amazing! One of the best remakes in recent history.

This is probably the best remake I've seen. It keeps all of the great aspects of the original game while keeping it modern with this amazing graphic redesign. I almost thought for a second that this was a new mafia game based on the graphics alone.

After playing RDR2 for 2 months then Cyberpunk 2077 since December 9, 2020; this was the only other game that could hold a candle to the mentioned greats. What a fantastic game and story. Very thankful that I didn't play the original one when it was released. Now hopping on to Mafia 2 DE. And yes, you are right, we really need more games like these; it is about the story.
You kind of hit the nail on the head with this honest review. I'm no longer into gaming so I don't really know what a modern game is supposed to be like, but the part with the linear story and missions is spot-on - indeed, not many options of how to complete a mission or what missions to pick. This game has great nostalgia value, but for newcomers, it might feel a bit dated. I would add that developers missed the opportunity to add some new and cool epoch weapons to the game, such as a BAR/Colt Monitor machine rifle, Browning Auto 5 self-loading shotgun, and maybe a Remington Model 8 autoloading police rifle with extended mag, to spice things up and offer more options for different tactical situations. Shooting down a plane with a Tommy gun is totally unrealistic because of the low range and poor penetration of the weapon, known in the Public Enemy era for not being able to punch through a car door, but a 30-06 BAR could get the job done.
Playing it now. These guys with a big budget could make something truly amazing, especially on next gen consoles. Story, characters, production values, driving and sound effects are all pretty awesome. Everything else just needs fine tuning. Such a great game even with all its faults.
The Police presence was *definitely* one of the things that made the original *hard*. It added tension to your driving, because if they started chasing you, you were in trouble. It could totally mess up your mission and cause you to have to replay it. Bummer that it's not there in the remake.
I scored this as a free copy last night via twitch amazon and the first thing that caught my attention were the story and the driving mechanics. Whoever designed the driving mechanics needs a raise 👍 its feels perfect especially when you take sharp turns.
Never played a Mafia game before I started this game. I'm about 2/3 of the way through now at a guess, and I think this game is awesome! Such a cool vibe, not a stupid padded out open world, acting is good, graphics are nice, story is engaging. I dont like the gun play controls, but everything else is perfect. 9/10 for me!
I am a new fan to the mafia series, as i am a 14 year old, but i loved the style of the game with it being focused on the story, because i really got tired of all the open world games that you see everywhere
Mafia is good as long as you're not looking for a GTA clone. It's very anti open world. I've played linear games that have more of an open world than Mafia has. It's truly story driven. But it has a great story, so that's fine. I'm loving it so far. I agree that the combat and AI need work. Especially enemy AI. Even the police are dumb.
Only complaint I have is some of the npc animations but other than that I’m loving it don’t mind some of the npc animations when all of the game in other areas are great
XxHeisenburn Intell masterpiece is a stretch, but I agree that 2 is the best. The games all have great soundtracks that kept me in the vehicles longer than I expected to be.

If I were to make a top 10 list of games that I would love to see remade, the original Mafia would most certainly be on it. I've been super excited for this, and only played through the first few missions so far, but I love it.
Didn't even know this was a remake. It's currently free with PS Plus subscription and the trailer on there didn't really give much for what the game was like, so here I am looking it up. I know a lot of people just download whatever is free when they can, but I get picky with what games I have and put effort into (especially as a completionist). So thank you for the video. ^-^ It was insightful.
The ram button is actually really usefull. Helps you corner cars better, especially with faster cars with bad brakes. Powerslide and press ram while steering. Also on the racing mission too
The shooting being awkward was something I liked actually cause it reminded me more of the original. And I really loved the driving too. Just wish they didn't remove the Lucas bertone missions and the ability to ride trains. But overall I loved it. Would replay it too. And about mafia 3 it was different but I enjoyed the story even and even though the gameplay was repetitive i enjoyed it cause it was pretty fun imo. But it's not as good as the first 2 though.
Personally, I think the game is infinitely improved playing on Hard or Classic difficulty. The difficulty can make the shooting sections anxiety inducing from looking for health packs and having to deal in exclusively head shots to have enough ammo to clear certain areas.
I loved it. Felt sad that the open world felt empty, I mean, no side missions. The world is freaking gorgeous, it's a waste not have missions to go explore those magnificent sights. I felt the story was on the shirt side. I would love doing Mafia stuff but still have the ability to go back to my job and do taxi. I would love having more variety in missions, not just shooting but setting up explosives, hijacking from rich people, rob banks and stuff. I know this is a remake of the original. I felt the need for a proper prequel.
Played on PS4 for the first time and this game is amazing. The atmosphere and characters are all so wonderfully done, plus the game is absolutely gorgeous.
This game took me by surprise when I first play this. As someone who never played the previous game, this is a well written game with each character has it's own weight. The story is great too and the visuals are so beautiful. Overall 10/10 game, highly recommended.
I loved this game when it originally hit PC. It’s such a cool environment and it rivaled anything Rockstar had done at the time. So glad that it was remastered.
This game is fantastic and the story is top notch. I never had a chance to play the Mafia games back in the day and Mafia 1 pleasantly surprised me. Running through 2 now and enjoying it just as much.
Finished the game today. It’s a good remake. Driving is awesome. Story is good as the old one. 10 hours gameplay for the story. But I highly recommend it for you to buy.
update* be wary of playing it on classical. i’m stuck on this part of the game where you’re given, and i’m not exaggerating here, 3 to 6 seconds to shoot precise points on a armored truck while you’re in a swerving vehicle and the truck itself is swerving while also shooting back at you
I'm guessing the reloading doesn't work like the original Mafia 1 in the sense that if you reload with rounds still in the mag, you lose those extra rounds as your character drops the magazine on the ground.

Facts
You are confusing remake with remaster....
What the hell with this bot?
Paulius Petniunas
This is a remake.
This game has some really impressive reflections, especially when it's raining. I know it's become pretty standard in games recently but they did a damn good job with the lighting and reflections imo. Loving it so far.
Yea but they couldn’t make it 60fps LMAO.
Scarface remake or definitive edition would be AMAZING
or a Vice City remake
That would be sick
They should remake the first Godfather game. Open world, you could extort businesses, blow up rival family businesses, where houses, overall better than mafia.
Mafia is so shit bro
Yeah they should
To be fair, Mafia is not necessarily a open world franchise but more of a story driven one.
Behead horses too
Yeah mafia so shit. GODFATHER was a way better game than mafia
Mafia games have always been pretty linear. I don't mind that at all.
Facts mafia is a awesome switch to a chill story mode game
Linear game with awesome open world. In original game I used to drive with no purpose - Lost City was beautiful
original was 100 times better. you cant even get in to a tram in this game, every element in this version breaks immersion.
@@andylai-fz6uc i miss free ride with gangsters in the streets to have shootouts with and get a little $ for it. This is just cops and stuff to find.
Lol, account code: User 5748
The big thing about Mafia for me has always been the ambiance, and this one nails the 1930's. Great choice of songs and the city is beautiful. It was also the reason for me to like Mafia 3, loved that late 60s early 70s feeling, being in the swamps with some rock on the radio.
Goddamn right. After playing definitive edition of mafia 1 I’m gonna go back through all of them. Got me back into this game style and god, I agree, the ambience in these games in the settings is unmatched. Just so good.
Yeah reminds me a lot of la noire
The feelings and vibes this game brings makes it soooo good for me. One of the most underlying features i love is the vehicle gas depletion/refill. Im too simple
From watching this I can say that the driving in the old Mafia seems so much better. Also the fact that I could roam around, steal cars and set them in the backyard of the safe house without them disappear had to be my favorite thing about the game.
I just finished the game today. It was my first time playing the game and I had no regrets with the purchase. The story was so rich along with the scenes, lighting, and music. Especially the music
How did you beat the race
@@Brotherarmz32 hate to say it but trial and error 😂
I'm playing this right now in 2024. I've currently played and beaten the previous 3 years ago.... Playing this one all over again in 4k is such a breath of fresh air. I feel like they couldn't make this game this game today... This was very well done, the city looks and sounds beautiful
Just bought it today, first time playing this series, gonna blaze up and dive into it.
enjoy the real gangsters
I thought I was the only one that liked to get high and play adventure games
Jealous
@@loudateez3061 lol dude I smoke with every game I play regardless
Man you are 100 percent thorough in every thing you say regarding your game reviews.
You've helped me a lot when I'm wanting to buy a new game.
That's why I go to you when I'm at a game store trying to decide.
I can't imagine how much money I would have lost buying games that turned out to be shit.
Yea? Bro how is this remake ?? I'm considering to buy this or watch dogs legion , a bit of advice if u can?
"cops are never around" I can't speed in the campaign without getting cops on me constantly and I'm only on medium
Exactly! I get chased constantly, im sure he has simulation turned off he said he turned it up but maybe he has traffic set to low (not sure that''s an option) On my game they are all over.
I also don't think they're never around. Some missions were about cops chasing us.
Turn it off in settings, they won’t pull you over for speeding
@Robert Anthony yeah that's what I like
I'm with you in liking that it "feels old", I bought this recently to test my new graphics card and it was really cool to have the same gameplay feel I remember from college years (Nostalgia=++) while experiencing some beautifully stunning graphics.
I just bought mafia DE this morning and resident evil village! I’m loving the Mafia DE, it’s so beautiful.
Mafia III was a good game, but it just didn’t feel like a “Mafia” game.
It had good gameplay but was so repetitive and lacked consistent story. Wasn't a good game in my opinion. Could have been
@@dvez566 agreed unlocking the story forces the player to do repetitive missions all the time till the ending
it was more like a gta type
i actually enjoyed playing so called Mafia 3 , my first time ever playing anything like a mafia, i havent played mafia 1, or 2 yet, maybe one day
@@swaggytjm33matthews26 play 2 I couldn't finish cause before some missions would bug out for me but gonna get into the definitive edition since they gave it for free for old mafia 2 owners, but from the hours I put it solid game. Mafia 3 was alright i think the world and setting was fucking great just the gameplay got old for me and I haven't played 1 but looks like im gonna now.
Don’t lie jake we all know you lost your voice doing mob impressions XD
🤣
So true
IDK why but I always watch these "Before you buy" videos right after I bought the games XD
Same!!! 😂😂😂
Funny how this game looks slightly better than mafia 3. But it has its typical hangar 13 graphical glitches.
The glitches aren’t game breaking I haven’t run across any yet.
they’ve definitely improved on their engine apart from mafia 3, still feels a lot like mafia 3 with the same motions and almost identical gunplay apart from not being able to laser beam people like lincoln clay
@@MentalityIV true
Good
Mafia 3 was a pig in makeup
This is probably the best remake I've seen. It keeps all of the great aspects of the original game while keeping it modern with this amazing graphic redesign. I almost thought for a second that this was a new mafia game based on the graphics alone.
JesseFernandesTV exactly my man I love it that’s why I pre ordered it
Nah, the new character models and voices are not as good, you can't interact with every npc, you can't open every door, to me except the graphics this seems more like a downgrade then a remake
@@mullaoslo just like the original.
@@mullaoslo you didn't play the original it seems
@@guillegarcia7146.... I played the orginal on pc back 02 over and over again.. It's one of my favourite games ever.. Hence why I don't like allot of the changes in the remake
This MASTERPIECE of a remake gets a 10/10 from me!
No open world padding, that’s music to my ears
😢
the only reason i dont want this game or see myself playing this series again
@Robert Anthony calm down oldman it’s his opinion
Wait why
It just feels weird to me how they completely skip over Tommy becoming a 'made man' and even his wedding and the birth of his daughter.
Don't know why they would skip that.
probably becuse of spoilers
@@thedisabledviking they don't show it in the game itself.
There is only one line in the game that talks about him becoming a 'made man.'
I didn't even know he was 'made' until they talked about it.
You never see his daughter and his wife barely shows up at all.
Victor Kuhn think of this game as just a little snippet of Tommy’s story. His wife and daughter just aren’t relevant to this part of that story.
@@xeagaort what are you talking about?
He flipped on his friends and did eight years in prison so he and his family could live safely in the future.
Kind of seems like his wife and daughter are at the center of his life.
@@bigmiki2620 yeah well detective Norman didn't really care about Tommy's private life, Tommy could have told him that he had his Bachelor party in las vegas with sam and paulie, or that he and sara had their honeymoon in Cuba, but those information are irrelevant for the upcoming trial against salieri so detective Norman wasn't interested to hear that
After playing RDR2 for 2 months then Cyberpunk 2077 since December 9, 2020; this was the only other game that could hold a candle to the mentioned greats. What a fantastic game and story. Very thankful that I didn't play the original one when it was released. Now hopping on to Mafia 2 DE.
And yes, you are right, we really need more games like these; it is about the story.
Like a other ww2 remake I was not impressed the recent one
@@squirrelhunter1300 your telling me I barely see any games base on WW1 and Vietnam

I miss black ops 3
I preordered this 18 years ago. Its just that it now looks like what I thought it always should.
Ah yes 4k in 2002
Damn 18 wait. Hope its worth it
You kind of hit the nail on the head with this honest review.
This series is just a 'watch whilst you download the game' x)
Playing it now. These guys with a big budget could make something truly amazing, especially on next gen consoles. Story, characters, production values, driving and sound effects are all pretty awesome. Everything else just needs fine tuning. Such a great game even with all its faults.
The Police presence was *definitely* one of the things that made the original *hard*. It added tension to your driving, because if they started chasing you, you were in trouble. It could totally mess up your mission and cause you to have to replay it. Bummer that it's not there in the remake.
"Just a straightfoward playthrough" music to my ears
Awesome! Loved this game back in the day. Now we need a Getaway remake :D
I scored this as a free copy last night via twitch amazon and the first thing that caught my attention were the story and the driving mechanics. Whoever designed the driving mechanics needs a raise 👍 its feels perfect especially when you take sharp turns.
Now Mafia II: Definitive Edition and i will be happy
Well, that didn’t go great.
@@legofrodobaggins9339 why
Omg you remember those loading screens going to different areas!?!? Never knew if the ps2 froze or not lmao
I never understood why was Mafia such a mess on PS2
its a mess on the pc too. constant freezing for up to two minutes at a time.
I grew gaming in 2000s. Would love if this remastering trend catch on.
The two things I remember about the original. 1) the cab driver mission. 2) that race car mission.
Atleast the police has unlimited tickets
This is a masterpiece .. Feels like mafia 2 my fav iv yet to play mafia 1.. and im so into it
Only complaint I have is some of the npc animations but other than that I’m loving it don’t mind some of the npc animations when all of the game in other areas are great
XxHeisenburn Intell masterpiece is a stretch, but I agree that 2 is the best. The games all have great soundtracks that kept me in the vehicles longer than I expected to be.

Kilo 7 The melee? I agree.
The cover shooting is fucking amazing though

ah man, the " you´ve broken the law, i´ll have to fine you" was one of my favourite thinsg from Mafia 1, shame the traffic laws have been toned down here...
If only Rockstar would have approached the GTA trilogy the same way.
Mafia 2 was my favorite, but I'm looking forward to playing this one again.

Mr Angelo? Mr salieri sends his regards.
@@DurangoCzechoslovakia yeah i fucked up. Vito was formal before the killing.
In this one the ending has more impact.
Personally, I think the game is infinitely improved playing on Hard or Classic difficulty. The difficulty can make the shooting sections anxiety inducing from looking for health packs and having to deal in exclusively head shots to have enough ammo to clear certain areas.
Who's here cuz of game pass?
UA-cam is getting really comfortable with these double unskippable ads...
I never played any Mafia games and picked this one up on sale, my god hands down the best game I played in the last 2 years. Great game.
I never skipped the driving parts of the game, I love driving manual in this lol
Every time someone told Tommy to drive, I was waiting for him to go "Oh, make the Taxi guy drive. Funny fellas, real funny."
You deserve a nobel prize for patience if you finished the original mafia
I beat it one day, lmao.
This game brought back some long forgotten memories, I loved it!.

Compared to Mafia series it was garbage but standing alone. It wasn’t bad. Not as detailed as Mafia clearly but still not a terrible game.
Finished the game today. It’s a good remake. Driving is awesome. Story is good as the old one. 10 hours gameplay for the story. But I highly recommend it for you to buy.
i had to order trilogy from overseas so i hope it was worth it,thanks for sharing
RE-L Mayer you made a good choice.
My uncle just bought me this game for Christmas, and I just wanted to check it out before I play it.!!
“before you buy” *is already downloading with my pre-order bonus*
update* be wary of playing it on classical. i’m stuck on this part of the game where you’re given, and i’m not exaggerating here, 3 to 6 seconds to shoot precise points on a armored truck while you’re in a swerving vehicle and the truck itself is swerving while also shooting back at you
I'm guessing the reloading doesn't work like the original Mafia 1 in the sense that if you reload with rounds still in the mag, you lose those extra rounds as your character drops the magazine on the ground.
There is a setting for classic that does that
