Where have you been all my bass playing musical life?! :-) Went to the site and bought the transcription and watched the play-along video too. Absolution spot on! Thanks so much! Now I've just got to spend a few weeks getting this down. Jack Casady knows how to lay down a bass line! Wowzer!
Wow, I had no clue he played chords in various parts, it is so hard to hear Jack's bass in this song, and I've seen quite a few different tabs. Nice cover!
I agree, it's hard to hear the bass on this recording. I'm not 100% sure if he played chords in those parts. That's what I was hearing at the time...hopefully it helps...thanks :)
Hi Greg. It's been a while I've been following your covers/lessons and I thank you for that. I'd have a recommendation though (You do it or not, I'd still enjoy learning from what you're doing 😉) Anyway, the song I'm thinking of is Il jouait du piano debout - France Gall. I don't know what your skills in French are, but that bass line, man, will make you forget what she says but your smile on your face will remain. Thanks for at least reading me but honestly, stay funky! Cheers
hey Lucas! Thanks for following me. I had a quick listen to the song. I liked it, thank you. However, the waiting list for "free" requests is over 6 months and I just don't think this one will make the end "cut" so, I'll thank you but pass on your request...best :)
Could you please tell about mixing and bass tone on that song. How did you record it? I personally achieved such tone via cutting all mids and highs on my preamp passive equaliser using a DI while playing only with neck pickup, but thats probably a “barbaric” method.
Hi Erop, thanks for the question. Your way seems much more advanced than mine :) I usually record with both pick-ups up full. For this song, I found a patch in GarageBand labeled "Sixties Bass". I may have tweaked a couple nobs here and there, but I can't remember. I usually just use EQ and maybe a little compression here and there. On rare occasions I might use some chorus, but that's about it. I hope that helps...thanks!
@@BassCovers no my friend your right with the song ! Before listing just looking at the title i thought it would be the catchy find me somebody to love but ita not. No worries
When Surrealistic Pillow came out in 1967 Jack was back in the mix on Somebody To Love but it was obvious that there was a lot going on. Later that year After Bathing At Baxters was released and the bass was front and center. All the players were able to turn up and stretch out.
Great cover! Much busier bass line than I ever would’ve thought!
you and me both! I was surprised when I started working on it :)
gnarly bass line, I severely underestimated how much was involved (after I said yes to playing it for a cover show)
haha...it's a handful for sure. Good luck. I hope the video helps :)
Thanks. I love Casady's playing during his Airplane years.
You're very welcome...thanks!
Greg this is just off the rails. Thanks so much for a great transcription.
haha...thanks Ron. I like that expressions - "off the rails" :)
got a lot of the flourishes and triplets that other covers do not have. Well done
thanks...cheers! :)
Excellent job and feel. Jack should be proud of that one!
hi there! Thank you very much, you're very kind :)
Just love this tune and your great bass performance. Thanks so much.
You're very welcome...thank you!
Crazy! Amazing cover, catches all the funky details
Thanks a lot!
Thanks a lot for this Greg, it's super helpful. Great playing it's a pleasure to listen to and watch.
Hi Maggie, thanks for the feedback. I'm really glad you found it useful...thanks! :)
Nice jivey song! It's always good to hear oldies. Thank you so much for the song, Greg! Well played!
hi Elia :) It is nice to pull out the oldies...I never would've thought of learning this one. Glad you like it :)

haha...thank you very much for everything :) Mr Casady definitely knew how to lay it down! Have fun and thanks again!
wow - I never dreamed it was that involved. Great job man!
Thanks! :)
Great job! Your tone sounds spot on. Bravo !! ❤
Hey Dave, thanks a lot. Appreciate it!
Totally awesome song! Great playing👍🏻😎
hey Clarke! Thanks man....glad you like it :)
real nice!
Thank you :)
Well done!
thanks...cheers!
this is really really good. He got those flourishes
hi gk! Thank you very much...appreciated :)
I had always wished that the bass and drums came through a bit more, on the original. Now that's what I'm talking about!
haha...thanks :)
the beauty of this is the bass and vocals just don't miss a note. Literally every note is in harmony with every other guitar
Hi GK, thanks for the comment. I hadn't noticed this before. I'll have to have a closer listen...thanks :)
Thanks for the chords. The tabs make a lot more sense when you can match the pattern with the chord.
Totally...glad it helped. Thanks!
That bass line is a killer
It is a good line he came up with...thanks!
yewwwww awesome !!!!
haha...thanks Chris ;)

Greg, might you consider doing "Smilin' Phases" by Blood, Sweat and Tears?
hey Michael...I can consider it :) Thanks!

Awesome, but anything at all by Deon Estus in his Wham days would be great. 'I'm Your Man' for instance, has one of the best bass solos ever!
Hi J! Thanks for the request. From what I remember that would be a good tune to do. Adding it to the list...thanks! :)
Flatwounds?
hi John, nope, just regular round wounds. D'Addario I think?
Who else thought this was 'I Need Somebody to Love' (by queen)
changed it...thx ;)

a tough bass part to hear-it is not very distinct in the mix..
hey Michael. I remember this one was a little hard to hear. I might have taken some liberties here and there ;)
@@BassCovers Your liberties are probably even better than what Jack played!
