People, i don't get why guitar chords and basslines are different. I mean when its Am on guitar its C# on bass. What is the reason beyond that, can someone explain ?

Its not about playing crazy stuff. You are ment to blend percussion and strings/melody. The song does exactly that, while standing out and being a dominant part of this song.
I like the fact that the bass evokes nostalgia, which makes the song even more poignant.
