Another stellar review! A few elements of your videos that I really enjoy:
    1. The intro photos of the bolted
    2. The history you provide
    3. The tasting notes
    4. The wrap up….not “good” or “bad” but here’s the flavor profile, maybe you’ll like it maybe you won’t (to paraphrase).
    Anyway, another wonderful video 🥃

I really appreciate the candor of your reviews, Jason. The hype on this bottle has been pulling at me for a while. While it still sounds like a great bottle, your points make it clear that it’s probably not worth the price for me and my palate.

My area the barrel strength is 200.00 and the 10yr is 350.00-500.00
I will stick with my Rare Breed Rye, Pikesville, and any Sagamore Rye!

I bought a bottle this past weekend, here in Ohio it is $170 but you can never find it. I found in Indiana for $200 and pulled the trigger. I would agree it’s overpriced but my motto is if you want it, buy when you find it. Awesome review, this is becoming my favorite spirits channel.

10 years is an impressive age statement for a rye but $170 for a 92 proofer? That's a pass for me. I'm glad I got the barrell proof and saved the extra money.

I love whiskey and whiskey channels. I also am so damn jealous of how many drams I see on these channels I'll never see for less than 400 bucks on the secondary.

I love Michter's taste both rye and bourbon. I just don't stock it because of the proof point on their regular shelf picks. I would love to see a Bottle In Bond from them. Maybe I can get lucky and find a barrel proof

It comes down to the fact that it is a rare high age rye. The longer these rye’s sit in a barrel the more likely they will mellow.
I couldn’t pass this up as it’s not your typical rye.
    Appreciate the review and comparison!

Love the 10 year michters, I think the bourbon taste better than the rye, admittedly I am biased towards bourbon since I prefer them usually over ryes. I think michters 10 year bourbon or rye gives some of the best flavor in that age statement but they certainly are pricing people out from consuming them.

Well, I bought one of these on secondary and I've got a barrel proof coming. Yeah, I paid too much but def a Michter's fan so I jumped on them, I'll never find them on a shelf around here. That Templeton 10 year sounds interesting, I like 95/5 MGP. I've stayed away from Templeton since they got in trouble with the authorities but maybe it's time to give them a second chance.

I just got a local shops barrel pick of Union Horse rye, 123 proof, just under 6yr old. It's fantastic and I never heard of that distillery before. Big orange zest and spice, almost like old fashioned in a glass. I'd recommend you find a barrel proof to try some day. I think their normal release is ~46%

Do we even know if Michter’s Barrel Proof Rye and 10 yr Rye have same mash bill? Since 10 yr is sourced…it might not have same mash bill. So comparing two products might be not a fair game.
I love Michter’s product but I always feel cheated to pay more for their sourced products.
    Great review by the way!

Yes, the 10 year Templeton is well worth it in my opinion. Everything you expect in a rye with sweetness that balances it out. Without overspending

Thanks for the review, Jason! I've enjoyed watching your videos for a while, but don't think I have commented before.
I really enjoy the Michter's standard options, but to me with their limited releases you pay too much for the hype and the marketing (tried the 10 yr bourbon twice in a bar and think MSRP is ~50% above where it should be). I saw the 2020 release of the 10 yr rye on the shelf last year for ~30% over MSRP, but passed due to the price relative to what you get.
I'm willing on occasion to pay $200 for a really good, high aged Kentucky rye: I've bought both Kentucky Owl Rye and Master's Keep Cornerstone. But I feel that when you compare the Michter's 10 Rye to those, you are paying a bit more for what's on the outside of the bottle vs those others, rather than what's on the inside.

One of the best ryes o out there IMHO…I actually like the Barrel strength rye as well. Yes, at 170 retail to 260-300 secondary it is pricy but…I like it better than Thomas Handy which is cheaper retail but 750-850 secondary so overall Michters is not that high.
I like the Barrel strength rye as the better value from them

    • @TheMashandDrum
      @TheMashandDrum  3 роки тому +1

During fermentation bacteria can create lactic acid. In a whisky, that lactic acid contributes to the dill-like aroma or flavor. Types of rye grain can also bring out more of that dill note.

Stumbled on a Knob Creek Limited Edition 9 year old cask strength rye - 119.6 proof ( batch one - 2018 ) at a small town store for $70.
including tax. Very fortunate to find it, but Michter's wants $170 for one extra year watered down to 93 ????
    Sorry, but I'm passing
Pikesville at $50 - $60 all day every day.

Just got this years M10R and also have the MBSR. The M10R was 129$ near me in MA, and I love it! And I like all sorts of ryes, but prefer the ones that are sweeter and have no dill note. When it comes to bourbons I cannot stand nutty ones like Knob Creek 🤢. Prefer the Saz/BT stuff, no off notes basically!

@@jacobrich7785 The chain stores Luke's and Kappy's both have clubs you can join and enter into raffles weekly. John's Liquors in Falmouth is great. There is a Facebook group "Bourbon Finder New England" with a ton of leads, people post up photos and info from the shops daily. I also have a friend who has a bottle shop which is a great personal hookup. Your best bet is to make some rapport with the store managers at a good store and let them know what you are into. If you are a good customer and friendly they should help you get what they can.

@@the_snicklefritz connecticut has a unique price structure for minimum bottle pricing. Not sure what state you are in but ct is definitely different than most I've worked in. The state sets the minimum you can sell it for and it's illegal to go below that price. So im guessing the pricing is based on the state you are in. Cant confirm what other states msrp is on these. Agreed with you that I wish it was in that $100 (maybe when their own distillate reaches that age they can bring the prices down since they won't be sourcing the rye anymore?
