He was Mario's direct rival during the Genesis/NES era. I mean they added Pac-Man characters to Mario Kart before Sonic. And Pac-Man only ever really competed with Mario during the arcade days before consoles were a thing. If that even counts. The only reason I say they competed is because they were both in the arcade.

Windmill Isle is simply Gorgeous. 🤩 Mario Kart 8 mods have such high quality. Took me awhile to get some of these mods to cooperate with each other (specifically Running sonic and UI/other sonic characters). I realized after the fact that the 2nd stage's music should not have been slowed down like that. 😅 Thought it sounded kinda cool and was meant to be like that originally.
From what I understand, Iizuka saw his son playing mario kart with some of his friends and noticed not all of them were having fun. So he wanted to make something they could all have fun with together, inspiring the co-op gameplay of TSR.

Not surprising. That’s his Unleashed model which is, in many fans’ opinion, the best model he’s ever had. 19000+ triangles, not a fault to be seen. Oddly enough, Generations’ model is only 16000+ triangles…

I think if they did do a sonic crossover there should be options to have tails and knuckles as gliders, so when sonic jumps off a ramp one of them grabs him and flys him to the place when he lands
Honestly, this is not bad track design really cool idea. Although I think some of the turns can be smoothed out and edged a bit better, so you don't have that issue of just running into the walls even if you take a good turn, but I mean, that's just probably because you're playing sonic without a card so.
The course design, I’ll give you that, but the animations are from Unleashed/Generations (those games seem to use the exact same animations despite the models being very slightly different).
This mod looks absolutely incredible. Only thing I’d change, personally, is Sonic’s animations when he jumps off normal ramps; using some of his aerial trick animations instead of a spin jump, but the fact that he does something more than a generic hop is still an awesome touch. I kind of wonder if this could serve as inspiration for Nintendo and Sega to add Sonic and Sonic themed courses to Mario Kart in the future? 🙂
man I feel like Sonic Riders stage designs would go so hard in Mario Kart 8 also the Star item making you Super or better yet hyper Sonic would be a golden touch
It feels like if Sonic's glider was based off the airplane one but edited to look like the Tornado, it would feel a little more in-line with something Sonic would feasibly use in this setting. The pixel glider is neat but just doesn't look right.

The game gear version of Sonic 2 featured a hang glider, I could easilly see Sonic use that for the glide jumps.
This reminds me of a dream I had when I was really little of unlocking Shadow in Mario Kart Wii. Heh. At the time, the only game I knew that had Shadow in it was Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games, and even then, I still knew nothing about him (I remember someone saying that he and Sonic were siblings, believe it or not).
Imagine getting a decomp plus pc port combo of MK8 some day in the future and they put Sonic from Sonic Gens for real. That would be a full circle moment like SM64 Mario in Sonic Gens.

Other than various corners and the like *clearly* not made with Mario Kart 8 in mind proper, especially in Seaside Palace, it looks pretty solid! Still weird Nintendo never did this and kept crossovers with the Olympics as it's such a goldmine of fun stories to tell with the two worlds!

Like, when he hits one of the zero gravity boosters, he could instead of spinning while running, do the drift animation but without moving his feet, before going back to running with a boost. Also would be neat if his pre-race animation was a race start pose, like head down, hands on the ground type thing. Was super funny watching him get picked up by lakitu, he just stands there unfazed. If this is taking unleashed animations, dunno why they didn’t use the pulley animation for that from the game. Woulda worked perfectly

I think the glider should be knuckles coming into the shot but overall this is how sonic should be in mario kart. I do think they also need Kirby in full mouth mode as a kart character

Love how City Escape’s beginning of lap 3 uses the Speed Shoes theme it has in Generations.
