Great review , loved the 2 ST70s I owned in the 70s , as I move towards the twilight years of motorcycling of both many British and high performance Japanese bikes, I love the cuteness that brings a smile to your face .Difficult choice between the DAX and the Monkey that Mr Darcy reviewed.

I love an old photo of me on a Honda st70, Oxford bags, feather cut, AirWare boots and zip jumper. In the back garden aged 15 where I learned to avoid the hedges. It was mum's during the 70s petrol crisis.

I had an ST70 in the 70 s just for going to work on , I used all the country lanes , I remember returning home after a night shift the local farmer had been cutting the hedges and I had to push it about 2 miles home with both tyres flat, ended up having new tubes because there must have been 10 punctures in each tyre when I eventually arrived home. My bike had the flower power seat , those were the days. Don’t remember what I did with it , perhaps gave it away, lol😂. Great video by the way. GL.

Living with a Dax in my opinion
I got my Dax delivered on the 30/11/2023 with 1 mile on the clock and today it clicked onto 400 miles as I dropped it off for its first service Thursday 29/2..
I have used the bike for get to and from work doing c16 mile a day around 6-7 miles of that cruising at 35 mph ish and a little bit of filtering.
The is faultless in my eyes it looks good it rides well I get 145-159 MPG and I think it will get better when it's fully run in.
It is worth every penny I arrive at work with a big grin on my face

Although made in Thailand the quality of these little Dax’s does not disappoint. They are just as high as the original sixties and seventies models. Do not be tempted by the Chinese copies, living on a narrowboat I had two of them. They literally fell apart before my eyes. Made of Kit Kat wrappers and Smarties lids !
    Cool video. Thank you.

I fell in love with this bike when I drove it 25 years ago around Greek islands, was a University student at the time on vacation.
We just rented them using our car license, things were not as strict back then, you couldn't find a better ride for riding around, enjoying the scenery, even throttling it hard since you were never going to go very fast.
In certain situations and for certain requirements I'm sure nothing would top this, and it easily carries two people as well.

When I was about 9 or 10 years old, my dad won a sales contest which included an 80cc dirt bike. Because of my age and lack of experience, he traded down to second prize off road style pedal bike which I was very happy with until later when I found out, I could have had a dirt bike.
Now I'm guessing when my dad seen that disappointed look on my face, he made note and when I was a little older, 11 or 12, he bought me one of these in the 70cc. I loved it! Drove it for miles down back country Canadian dirt roads. Learned about maintenance and bees in a helmet too. I even got a second one when drunk uncle pulled a backyard stunt and wrecked my first one. Lol
I sure hope they sell these again in Canada. If I don't buy one, it'd just be great to see one again, have the memories flood back and smile. 👍🏻

Back in the day when I was 18 I had ridden by bike round to visit a physically slight 6 stone 5' 2" tall friend, who had bought a Honda ST50 for getting to work, she had asked me to look at the engine on the bike as it wasn't running right so I did and after making some adjustments I was giving the little bike a test ride to make sure I'd fixed the fault and the bike ran out of petrol right next to a petrol station, so I nipped in there and put a half gallon in the tank and went in to pay and the pretty girl behind the counter was in fits of laughter at the sight of my 18 stone, 6' 2" tall, tasseled black leather jacketed, leather booted with white socks turned down over the boot upper, full faced Bell crash helmet etc person riding on this tiny Honda, she said I looked like horse riding on the back of a dog or something like that, I thought it was funny and I've never forgotten it, my normal bike at the time was a BSA Spitfire 650 and I never got laughed at on that! These days in my late 60's I've come to really love the idea of these super economical lightweight bikes and I wouldn't mind having one, thanks for the sympathetic review and I hope you are healing up well my friend

I had a Honda Dax as a kid in the 70's. This new bike only comes with ABS breaks on the front wheels. In Australia motorcycles are require to have duel system (ie front & back) ABS breaks by law, to register the bike for road use. Unfortunately they are not importing this bike into Australia, due to this ABS issue.

The first bike I ever rode in 1969 was the US model CT 70. I wanted one of these but Honda has decided not to import it to the US. If it does come here it will be at least $4000. So, lacking the opportunity to by the real thing I bought a Chinese clone. It is also a 125 with a 4 speed semi automatic. It has the original size 10” wheels.
It is obviously not Honda quality but it is far better than the Chinese bikes of ten years ago. And it was $1500 brand new, delivered to my house. I put on knobby tires. It has been great fun!

I loved the original “Trail 70”…but alas, once Honda introduced its SL line, these became obsolete. I do appreciate the trip back in time, as I spent my boyhood riding such bikes from dawn to sunset. (though in the States we had cows instead of sheep!)

I've got one of these, had it delivered in December last year, done just over 200 miles on it since then (work and weather getting in the way). It's my first bike since doing my CBT.
I find myself not using the heel shift, instead using the gearbox more like a regular bike's and going down a gear with the top of my foot. I find that a bit more comfortable
Lack of storage is my only complaint, but a backpack sorts that out. I've ridden it on dual carriageways, through towns and on dirt roads and I've had a blast, though the dual carriageway definitely not what it is best suited to!

You make a very good point about the Honda will hold it's value compared to the Chinese clones, that's the reason I didn't buy an old ST70, Some are going for more than the new one, and I bought a clone instead, that was before the new Honda came out, I don't intend to sell it, so as long as it stays reliable I will stick with it (new engines are cheap enough to replace if needed). they are good fun and makes a change from my Sportster or Speedmaster to nip about on

I remember way back in the sixties when living near Antibes France, most of the yachts and cruisers had them on board looked way cooler in flip flops and tiny bikinis😛

I saw a girl proudly parking her new Dax outside the 7-Eleven in our village north of Chiang Rai a while back. I like the exposed engine pointing forwards. Good for cooling, I suppose. I don't like the heel/toe gearchange. The MPG figures will probably be accurate. Honda's quoted figure for the Wave 125i is. If I could get on with the gearchange, I'd consider one of these, but my 155cc twist and go scooter is better for shopping. And a lot faster off the mark. The Dax looks enormous fun, though.
I was going to ask what bike your wife had bought.

Being a semi-auto was one of the reasons I've chosen this bike.
But the monkey and the Grom are fully manual and great bikes too

The seat height is quite high for the size of motorbike.
If it was lower it would have a much bigger market, especially girls.

Do this mean you can ride this on an automatic license? I have my CBT and want to do my full licence but in automatic not manual. Would i be allowed to ride this on an automatic license? Thanks, great video and love the bike

(Sir, I admire your bravery for doing this video when unknown to you a wooly/furry creature with horns was looming behind - ready to BUTT! I am also envious that your wifey wants/gets a DAX! Your total for 2 is what, $11,000 bucks!? Damn, that is like 8 months of child support for my ex-wifey: no fun beyotch but with family funded lawyer!)
