  • The Major Collision Investigation Unit (MCIU) sits within the Road Policing Drug and Alcohol Section (RPDAS).
MCIU members investigate the circumstances around road collisions and fatalities where there is evidence that suggests criminal negligence by the driver. They will also attend any road fatality of three or more people, hit and runs, and outcomes of police pursuits. They have specialised knowledge that can help piece together what happened at a scene. The evidence gathered plays a vital role in court proceedings, that can ensure the families of those lost to road trauma receive justice for their loved one. Or, in other instances, it could mean exonerating someone who has done nothing wrong.
