  • It's raining in Texas, perfect weather to test Hennessey's 600 horsepower Velociraptor truck. Here's the formula: Start with a 2013 Ford Raptor, and add boost and a disturbingly loud exhaust. Sounds like a win to us. The problem now is, the whole crew wants Matt to buy one.

Hennessey has never built a motor or car in his life! But, he is,was an expert hiring some dope ass wrenches!!! His mech helped me with a new RX7 in 1991, 500hp with bolt on stuff. Hessessey is an awesome cat & a great biz-man, Was happy to see his success!

I own a Raptor, and it's one of the most versatile vehicles I've ever seen. You can tow with it, haul crap with it, we use it as a camera truck, it has a luxurious interior with all the technology you'd need, it's comfortable for a road trip, cool enough to bring to a car show, and can run the Baja 1000 in completely stock trim with a roll cage and warranty intact. It's heavy, just like all other trucks. Besides that, what's not to like?

I'm not really that much of a truck person but here is my opinion on why some people would rather do gasoline: Most stations don't carry diesel, you might have to go out of your way to fill up, the cost to maintain a diesel engine is enough to think twice, when something does go wrong you can't take it to any mechanic, you have to go to a diesel mechanic. Also it is comforting to know that a well-known professional has tuned your truck, not a locally known shop that could have made a mistake.

there was no chase car at those speeds, the minivan could never keep up. We do in-car and mounted shots at the same time, then do the chase/tracking shots at a separate time, then flyby shots. The tracking shots are only about 35-40 mph, because that's all the camera car can handle.

If this was mine it would stay dirty, not just because it does look great dirty but because its a truck, to me i dont see why people clean trucks like these, the Raptor is made to go offroad so its supposed to be dirty. It might just be me that thinks that but honnestly i dont care to me a dirty truck is proof of a person using their truck as a TRUCK and not a car in the shape of a truck like unfortunately most people around here do.

in all fairness, you can run nearly any production V8 as hard as I did during this test and get poor fuel economy. On the highway, while cruising, the Velociraptor will return 14 mpg. Not great, but not too bad for a gas-powered, supercharged, 6,000 pound brick. The Cadillac CTS-V wagon we tested returned 6 MPG over a FULL WEEK of daily use. Now that's bad.

There are plenty of ICE powered cars that get great gas mileage. Most of them have small, relatively gutless engines combined with aerodynamic efficiency and low weight. This truck has none of those things: monster engine, aerodynamic as a refrigerator, heavy, and huge off-road tires. The ICE engine can be efficient, or it can be powerful, but it's rarely both. But "regardless of how you drive it," really isn't a valid argument.

  • @AreThereNoMoreNames

Having worked at both a Ford and Chevy dealership, I can say the Fords come in for major repairs quite a bit less than the Chevy cars do, quite a bit less than the trucks. But quite a few people at the Chevy dealership seemed to have a pretty bad understanding of how not to destroy your car. And that dealership sold a lot of those electronic rustproofers, so that tells you a lot about the sort of people the sales staff as well as the customers are.

for those particular roads, you could. For some of the roads I've taken my raptor on, no way.

I am as far from a "truck guy" as one can get. But i can respect this fine piece of engineering and would love you have one in my driveway. It sounds fuckin awesome.

    Excellent camerawork!
My buddy and I spent hundreds on gasoline to make some EPIC DUST STORMS while off-roading on free dirt. Come check it out on my channel after you finish this video.

I'm a GM guy, born and raised in them, bought one as my first vehicle and love them till death. However I have to say ford did one hell of a job on this truck, a very well purpose engineered off road vehicle. Ford has made some pretty nice vehicles, mainly the ford GT just like they have made some crap (6.0 powerstroke, biggest pos known to man). However I think with this vehicle ford is showing their capability and improvement as a company.

The Raptor is assembled in Dearborn, Michigan. The Tundra is assembled in Princeton, Indiana. They are both American.

John's warranty is only 1 year 12,000 miles. Buy a Shelby 575hp or a Roush 590hp and still have a full Ford warranty.

Matt, great call, when you see someone important @ Ford mention the paddle shifters. I have a 5.0L F150 with the six speed and want them too. 120mph with all terrain tires=blowout soon after.
