Hello NicknLex ! Nightwish fans here, your musical quest summoned us. Welcome to the world of symphonic metal! And thank you for checking this legendary band, performing here at Wacken Open Air in 2013, together with Floor Jansen, the 3rd and present female singer of the band, in front of a 82k audience. About the instrumental and vocal added parts - it's good to know they recorded their orchestral and vocal back tracks with prestigious institutions as London Philharmonic Orchestra. London's The Metro Voices choir group and London's Young Musicians Children's Choir as their regular partners. As I saw, you enjoyed the powerful performance of the band, together with the stellar vocals of our Dutch metal queen, Floor Jansen. Hope you'll continue on this path. Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the [updated] short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory): " Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer. They are from Finland. Tuomas Holopainen, the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. [The 1st Bassist of the band was Sami Vanska, he was with them until 2001. The 2nd one was Marco Hietala, as Bassist and vocals, since 2001 to 2020. He recently announced his retirement both from the band and the public life for the next year at least - we'll see what the future brings to us. Then very recently (May 2021) Jukka Koskinen became the 3nd Bassist of the band, for at least the Human :II: Nature tour] And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen . Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrumentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition. Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile) - you just heard her. There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit, Decades live (Floor). I hope this helps. I want to welcome you to the Nightwish community. I hope you like them enough to continue the journey. Believe me Nightwish will surprise you with their songs. You will never know what to expect. They are unbelievable live. I want to warn you that Nightwish fans are hard core. So be prepared. lol " Hoping you'll continue this journey with us, I'll drop here a list of songs (with links) with the current lineup of the band you may like (please consider this list of links only as "a tip of the iceberg", an indication that they have a vast and very diverse repertoire, and not as something mandatory): "Storytime" live at Wacken 2013 (uplifting vocals) ua-cam.com/video/pvkYwOJZONU/v-deo.html "Romanticide" live at Wacken 2013 (metal) ua-cam.com/video/zz_7OCCQlXs/v-deo.html "Ever Dream" live at Wacken 2013 (uplifting vocals) ua-cam.com/video/1Xi4n8dJcF8/v-deo.html "Song Of Myself" live at Wacken 2013 (dark/metal) ua-cam.com/video/lQu5QjidHWg/v-deo.html "Dead Boy's Poem" - live Buenos Aires 2018 (soulful ballad) ua-cam.com/video/S8E3L7ggLMM/v-deo.html "Ghost River" live at Wacken 2013 (metal) ua-cam.com/video/05eitd-EA6I/v-deo.html "Dark Chest Of Wonders" live at Wacken 2013 (metal, the greatest show opener ever) ua-cam.com/video/OvOD6xecph4/v-deo.html "My Walden" live at Wembley 2015 (celtic / folk) ua-cam.com/video/knqeI807ZlY/v-deo.html "Sleeping Sun" live at Vizovice Masters of Rock festival 2016 (ballad) ua-cam.com/video/pVPTUEW1PEM/v-deo.html "The Islander" live at Tampere 2015 (Marco in charge..) ua-cam.com/video/Zo8ncK_5kzc/v-deo.html "Stargazer" live at Tampere 2015 (operatic vocals / metal) ua-cam.com/video/NhEuAPYm_Ug/v-deo.html "Alpenglow" live at Wembley 2015 (uplifting / metal) ua-cam.com/video/FrJvKZNEh7g/v-deo.html "Sahara" live at Tampa 2016 (middle eastern vibe) ua-cam.com/video/lTvYfLa4Wlk/v-deo.html "Slaying The Dreamer" live at Buenos Aires 2018 (metal) ua-cam.com/video/wA44tjaP5n0/v-deo.html "I Want My Tears Back" live at Buenos Aires 2018 (celtic / folk vibe) ua-cam.com/video/TBOdgxjb0kM/v-deo.html "Devil & The Deep Dark Ocean" live In Buenos Aires 2018 (metal) ua-cam.com/video/t26r_vAYQ0Q/v-deo.html "Weak Fantasy" live at Tampere 2015 (dark metal) ua-cam.com/video/AN239Pbqbjo/v-deo.html "7 Days To The Wolves" live at Wembley 2015 (dark metal) ua-cam.com/video/XvsfwAPbWXc/v-deo.html And if you want to hear Floor growling :) then try "Yours Is An Empty Hope" live at Mexico City in 2015 ua-cam.com/video/DuwY1d-KIss/v-deo.html Last but not the least - they just released their 9th studio album on April 10th 2020 named "Human :||: Nature" - just take a peek to their official playlist: ua-cam.com/play/PLihZ3gi5Yvzc0pfH2cbNKUUX8o3pb8eVg.html (for example: "Shoemaker", the 3rd track from this album, tells the story of Eugene Shoemaker, one of the founders of planetary science, whose ash was sent on the Moon after his death, as a tribute from the scientific community ..) The links presented above are with the current singer of the band, Floor Jansen, since I'm a fan of the recent era of the band, with Floor as the singer. I have nothing against previous singers, but I do not consider myself the most suitable person to give specific recommendations from their repertoires. That being said, I will add here the message left the other days by some old fans of the band, @Fabrizio Gorla: " To be fair to the old fanbase, you may want to include also some of these songs. * The Tarja era *: Nightwish - Wishmaster [Live] ua-cam.com/video/eJTlH521E6w/v-deo.html Nightwish - End Of All Hope [Live at the Summer Breeze festival 2002] ua-cam.com/video/ESlyjQl90p0/v-deo.html NIGHTWISH - The Phantom Of The Opera ua-cam.com/video/tL25rbnvM4o/v-deo.html Nightwish - Dark Chest Of Wonder [Live End Of An Era 2005] ua-cam.com/video/ROdKrGVVuI8/v-deo.html Nightwish - The Siren [Live End Of An Era 2005] ua-cam.com/video/LUy8T_3kieI/v-deo.html @DeeDee80: Gabriel, would be good to add in the Tarja list "Pharaoh Sails To Orion" ua-cam.com/video/ZpkH187t5Mk/v-deo.html . Waiting for more Nightwish reactions. All the best from RO. Stay safe.

Floor Jansen is a vocal athlete with incredible range, versatility, vocal stamina, and stage presence. She is a soprano with a range of more than three octaves (D3 to F6). When listening to her sing, it is apparent that she has spent the better part of her life fine-tuning her instrument with help from several vocal coaches. Floor can sing in multiple languages and genres and is a vocal coach herself. It is incredible how she is able to take any song and make it her own. This woman is a true gift to her craft and an incredible addition to a band that has always been great until 2013when they officially hired the undisputed Queen of Metal Floor Jansen, making Nightwish the greatest band on the planet. Welcome to the Nightwish rabbit hole. Nightwish Army U.S. ( Urban Operators ) in the house.
You have just scratched the surface of Nightwish's extensive catalog of music. Gabriel will soon be here with a road map to help you navigate your journey. Wacken is a metal festival in Germany.
I understand your preference for studio versions but Nightwish is the exception to that. You should ALWAYS do the live versions. Please follow Gabriel's list of recommendations.
I love watching people "find" this band and Floor. An epic journey awaits you two. Nightwish Live is the best way to take the journey. They are one of a few bands I've ever heard that sound better live than on their albums. Well done you two and welcome to the Nightwish Army!
What's even funnier to see is that none of these reactors are even slightly prepared for to vocal gut punch in their feelings. All fall befor the empress of metal
Gabriel is the perfect guide and pathfinder for the Nightwish Rabbit Hole. They have become my favorite band, although I knew them early on with their first singer. Floor has taken them to a whole new stratosphere - enjoy your ride, my friends. It's been the greatest one I've taken!
And she's versatile... Check out her side project, Northward, from 2017, and the song "While Love Died" for a different side of Floor. ua-cam.com/video/bAiPeSsqD-4/v-deo.html
Who is the best European singer? To battle about that question, you need to know the french singer Laure Le Prunenec. She is the female singer of the band Igorrr, and the main artist of the band Corpo-Mente that includes the brain of Igorrr, Gautier Serre, as well. React to her: ua-cam.com/video/l3wDuBGtzX8/v-deo.html&ab_channel=Corpo-Mente
@@sonosoloio Common, Laure Le Prunenec is great as well... Ghost love score in 2013, was the best female live performance of ever, i give you that, but, one single song dont give her the best of the world title... Probably you join the voice with the bands, when you want to define who is the best... Of course Nightwish music style has much more fans than Igorrr and Corpo-Mente styles.... ;)
Wacken is a big metal festival in Germany. This video is one of the most reacted to on UA-cam and for good reason. Be prepared for the Nightwish army to descend and give you all the information about the group and recommending just about everything from their live concerts on UA-cam.
Many European languages transpose the W sound and the V sound compared to English -- it is just a thing. So Waken is pronounced "Vokken" and like veins is "wanes" , etc. Also Americans tend to pronounce names and places the way they want, instead of the way the people who live their pronounce them -- there is no "Moss Cow" in Russia, even though that is what TV says. "Muskva" is about as close to how the people there say it. Germany -- they call it Deutchland "Doychland" and they live there. French citizens call their country "Fronc-ey" and their capital "Pa - ree" -- and a thousand other passive aggressive insults like that. but Americans "don't need no foreigners tellin' them how to pronounce shit" I guess. Anyway V
Welcome to NW NicknLex, you just met our 6 ft Queen Floor Jansen (Dutch) 3rd and current frontwoman of the Symphonic Metalband NW. She is incredible. 10 Months earlier she came as a substitute for Anette Olzon, who became sick in the middle of a World Tour and had to go to the hospital. NW called Floor and she said yes. She had to learn the setlist in 48 hours and did that on the flight from the Netherlands to Salt Lake City, where she joined the band on their way to Seattle for the next concert. GLS wasn't even on the list, but because she loved this song so much, NW put it on the list. The last part of the song the previous singer(s) didn't do, so she made it her own, with as result 10 months later at Wacken 2013 this MASTERPIECE. When she belt so high, you got shivers or goosebumps, we call that a FLOORGASM. Congrats with your first one. If you want to react to more of them, you can go with the links Gabriel Bardac gave you for now. Greetings from the Netherlands South Division and enjoy the ride with us. Just a tip: NW IS BETTER LIVE
Instant Fans !!!! I love it !!! Greetings guys, from Tennessee USA ❤️ Nightwish Army, I welcome you to the Musical Mystical Magical world of Nightwish !!! GREAT Reaction ☺️, and can't wait to see more soon !!!
Greetings from Arizona and welcome to the world of Nightwish. This was song 13 of 15 for this concert. For our money this is the tightest symphonic metal band on the planet. Every member is a true professional and top talent in their trade. Floor was with the band for only 9 months at this concert and not yet a permanent member. We enjoy the live concert performances best because of their interaction with their fanatical fans; 82k+ at this concert. We love your reaction and your obvious enjoyment. With a song catalog of more than 120, no two are alike. Tuomas, keyboardist, composes and arranges most of their music and we fans refer to him as our Metal Mozart. We've just subscribed as we want to join you on your NW journey. We know you are going to love it. Stay safe and enjoy the ride.
Nightwish will surprise & shock you, Floor Jansen is classically trained along with several years at the Dutch school of rock ,she has a 3 1/2 octave range. Floor can sing anything from operatic, metal, rock & yes she can growl.
Nightwish Shadow Unit from Estonia reporting in ! Valkyrie Queen spotted (Floor Jansen is a soprano, with a range of more than three octaves D3 to F6) ! Gabriel Bardac entered ! Excellent reaction. Take Gabriel's list as a guide to your journey. We are on Standby mode for now .... Lets see what comes next ... Nightwish Army is not far behind !
Greetings, Shadow Unit. I welcome all Nightwish fans to this channel just as one subscriber to another. The amount of enthusiasm and info provided is incredible. Thanks to all of you. It’s a well-coordinated effort, it appears. And I enjoyed the performance as a first-time viewer. Stunning! I notice you’re from Estonia and I am so enthralled with that country, although I’ve never been. I had a dear friend and dance teacher from Estonia and the little I learned about the country amazes me. I watched the “Singing Revolution” with awe and respect. And I’ve read about Estonia’s high literacy rates and computer tech skills and availability country-wide. So, I salute your country as a shining example for the world on many aspects. It’s also so thrilling to see the worldwide support this spectacular band has. I read from Gabriel’s comment that Floor does a Lara Fabian version of “Adagio.” I’ve had that song on a “mix tape” for decades so I will check that out immediately. Thanks again to all of the fans and our hosts. Music without borders. ✨🤪
@@michelemichele3375 Thank you for the bottom of my heart for your reply . I am Pleasantly surprised by your knowledge about my country . Yes we are small, but we are busy and proud little bees . Also, I reconnected myself with Nightwish about 9 months ago , and I was a little bit ashamed myself , because I stopped listening this band after Tarja left ....I was bitter and angry and hurt, but I was so wrong.. I fell in love head over heels for Floor's vocals and passion, and now I am a bigger fan than ever before . Besides, my love for music returned and I started my bass playing again . PS: Floor's cover "Adagio" and "Alone" are my absolute favorite cover songs.
@@TimoArula " stopped listening this band after Tarja left" Nighwish Army Japan Division reporting in! Timo, I don't think you need to be ashamed. Losing Tarja (who could possibly replace her?!!) was unthinkable. And we all deal with loss in our own ways. I, too, fell away from Nightwish. I eventually made it back somewhere in the Anette years, but it was spotty. Now that we've got UA-cam, WOW. Getting to see how many of us NW fans there are is amazing. Before these reaction videos, it always felt like I was one of the few that knew about NW. Little did I know that we were an invisible army!
Wishing the Viking Queen a speedy recovery ... this performance is by far one of the top live performances ever ... the band was out of this world, and she delivered powerfully and gorgeously with a voice that can take troops to battle like a General!
Nightwish = Metal Mozarts; Floor Jansen = Best Rock/metal Singer in these Days with the most variety of skills. The concert was in Germany the Wacken Open Air Festival, the Greatest Metal Festival on earth. 83000 Fans watched this Nightwish Concert.
As son as you hear FloorJansen's voice you are hooked. I'm glad you watched the video of them performing. Their shows are always very theatrical and spectacular to see.
What an excellent way to spend the American holiday. USA has been called the "melting pot" of culture, and here we have a German and a Mexican American watching a Dutch singer and a Finnish band perform at a metal music festival in Germany. Love it! -- Some tidbits of information about the concert: This is toward the end of a tour that was started by the Nightwish lead singer Anette Olzon, but who couldn't perform due to illness. Floor Jansen stepped in to continue the tour, and this concert was about 10 months after that. Floor was not an official member of the band yet, but it did not take Nightwish long to see they had a Siren Valkyrie Goddess of a vocalist helping out in their time of need, and after the tour it was announced that she was their new singer. This is the largest crowd Floor had ever performed for at this point in her career, with 82k people. Welcome to the Nightwish community!
Yes. This was recorded 10 months after the Denver Debacle. Kinda cool that this is being reviewed by a couple in Denver. I just visited the Red Rock ampitheater for the first time a couple of months ago when I was in Denver and agree with the reference in the video that it would be a cool venue for Nightwish.
Besides her Nightwish performances, you can also see Floor Jansen on the Dutch TV show Beste Zangers in 2019. She has also been recording videos at home during quarantine.
You guys have become one of my favorite reactors....now, finally....welcome to NIGHTWISH. You will not regret your NIGHTWISH journey, I promise! Thanks! 👍💖
Great reaction guys. Absolutly top 👍😁 Welcome to Nightwish and Floor Jansen our Valkyrie Goddess and official Metal Queen. This woman can really sing everything live and perfectly. From the highest tone to deep growling (not as deep as Jinjer). Every genre she has explored so far she has mastered. She can sing in 8 different languages. She is highly sensitive and knows how to pass these feelings on to her listeners when she sings. This woman is a miracle. In addition, absolutely down-to-earth and sympathetic, absolutely real. She maintains the connection between herself and us fans. Every Friday there's a fanfriday on their channel. Very funny she answers our questions. This is just a small example. Her channel (Floor Jansen) is packed with cover songs, documentaries and interviews she has conducted herself. Very interesting. Btw. I've seen that you've already responded to Ayreon. There are also songs where Floor performs. She is his secret weapon. 😁
You know when a band is highly professional because their live performances are "studio Quality". Floor has a voice like liquid gold! Best wishes from the UK and stay safe.
People, Floor trained and studied in the Netherlands at the Music academy in Rock music AND classic, she can sing opera, but chooses not to do so often. She is a very kind and charming Lady, who explained on her own YT channel this song. She had shortly before joined Nightwish, and as she herself said, she was nervous singing the first time before more than 80,000 people, and trying out a new ending (high notes) in the end of the song. You can see how happy she was, that she did it and that the audience appreciated her. Stay safe and sound. German greetings.
Trust me.... stay with all the live performances! They will ALL blow you away!!! I've seen them twice in the states and heading to LA to see them on Oct. 1st! I love Red Rock.... seen quite a few concerts there! Family still lives in the Denver area! You are going to LOVE Storytime, Romanticide, Ever Dream, and Song of Myself... all from this very same concert!!! This is JUST the beginning of your Nightwish journey!!!
Hi and welcome to Nightwish - even though we've heard this song a 1000 times we never get bored of it and we adore seeing the expressions of shock and awe on reactors faces - it's almost like a drug. Nightwish have helped an awful lot of us in many ways - depressed people have had their spirits raised - I got to know them during lockdown - being very picky about my musical tastes I had no problems here at all - I've now got tickets to see them twice in the UK which I've never done before in 40 years of going to concerts. Please continue with the live shows! I look forward to many more - take good care of yourselves
NicknLex, Nice reaction, thank you. Now you know why live for NW is usually our first option, the ENERGY is so strong. Glad you liked it and want more. The more is on the way via the Nightwish Army ( a global fan base, I am a member in So. Cal )). Gabriel will be here with all the info you could hope for or need. Wacken ( Vocken ) is a music festival in Germany, there were 82K there this night. Welcome to the NW community and enjoy your journey. Be well.
I completely agree with your rule about studio first and completely agree with your exception here. They really are a joy to watch. I'm looking forward to watching this with you 🙂
In this case the studio version is different as it was originally sung by the first, more operatic, singer Tarja. It had not been performed live for a while, and Floor asked to bring it back into the setlist in 2012 when she stepped in to replace the sick 2nd singer Annette and joined the band mid World tour, 10 months prior to this show. She wanted to sing it, and made it her own
I loved the looks on your faces when the Valkyrie Goddess Floor Jansen started singing. Thanks for your great reactions to this epic song. I hope you enjoy your Nightwish journey. I will look forward to your future reactions. Stay safe.
Hi NicknLex, so nice to see your enthusiastic reaction to this song. You just opened the door to the Nightwish world and stepped into the rabbit hole of NW music. This was only a scratch of the surfice what you will experience digging more their music. I noticed Gabriel had allready commented below, so you'll have a good info there about the band and what might be good choices to go on. Live versions are excellent quality videos. Wellcome to listen Nightwish with us, see you soon.
Floor Jansen (YAHN-sen) is the third singer for Nightwish and has been with them since 2012. An amazing soul-- obviously classically trained with many years of experience. She is a Nederlander (the band is Finnish) who lives on a little farm in Sweden with her husband (drummer for Sabaton) and four year old daughter Freja. She is a horsewoman and vocal coach and maintains an astoundingly good UA-cam page which has "Fan Fridays," interviews with other performers, and some KILLER cover songs. BTW as everyone asks-- Floor is about 6'1 and 6'4-6'5 in her stage heels ALTHOUGH she recently said that now that she's 40, she's done with the heels onstage.
I enjoyed your reaction and comments. I became a fan last year at age 68, I guess you are never too old to appreciate great music. I would stick with Wacken for a few more songs because you can see true talent live rather studio versions. I remember as a young man in the early 70's, I loved to listen to Alice Cooper albums but when I saw them live, that was a whole new experience. Their stage show visually raised the music to another level. Nightwish did this for me ........except Floor has a much better voice than Alice!! I have subscribed.
Private Marshall, Nightwish Army reporting for duty. Glad you enjoyed this Amazing performance. I have good news, It's all good. All of it. This entire concert is packed with songs that will blow your mind. It is my personal belief that Floor Jansen (Lead singer) is the best all around vocalist on the planet. I see General Gabriel has stopped by to start you on your journey. It is like no other. Enjoy.
Welcome to Nightwish. Great reaction. This is from a festival in Germany, for the gear, they use almost the same ones in every concert. For other songs you can choose anything from Gabriel's list and you will be fine and us happy, but my vote goes to "storytime" live at Wacken for a next song. Stay safe 🤘😁🤘
Told ya these guys were EPIC and she's got the best voice as well. Reminds me of LOTR/GOT type of genre that just throws you into this amazing and ethereal mindscape! Totally diggin' this band! Glad you took time to do this band! PEACE NickNLex! 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
Nightwish Army uk division reporting for duty! Valkyrie Goddess spotted! As Gabriel has said your musical journey has summoned us we look forward to you journey down the rabbit hole you have discovered! We will be watching, stay safe!
Nightwish has gone through quite a few singers over the years but it was only when Floor arrived on the scene that the bands popularity sky-rocketed. She is an incredibly versatile singer and a super nice person with zero ego. Marco, I believe is either leaving the band, or has left altogether & unlike the female leads, he is practically impossible to replace. His bass playing is superb and his mere presence on stage cannot be reproduced. His vocals are also legendary & are the very fabric of the Nightwish sound, so I'm not entirely sure where the band goes from here.
Hi Nick, Hi Lexi. It is brilliant that you have now sampled the awesome wonder that is Nightwish. What a brilliant band. What a performance... Floor....the vocalist is just awesome. Gabriel has given you a great in depth discography with cracking ideas for the next Nightwish track to check out. Yet again I thank you for letting us into your living room and being part of your family. I'm a old rocker and metalhead but every time I hear this it brings a lump to my throat. It was great to hear the dog barking at the fireworks 👍😆. Looking forward to your next reaction. Take care, stay safe. Love and peace 👍✌️🤘☮️
Nightwish Army, New Zealand Division reporting. Thanks for the reaction. Always good to see people discover my favourite song. There is so much to this song, including the more subtle parts of the musical arrangement, and the lyrics, that you need to listen to it a few times to fully appreciate it.
Hi from the UK, so you have discovered Nightwish at last, the ultimate concert ending is from Tempare in Finland, The Greatest Show On Earth, which has everything , I nearly teared up toward the end of it, incredible and well worthy of reacting too. Great reaction here guys 🤘
Always fun seeing new people discovering Nightwish for the first time. Recommend that you pin Gabriel's post; it's a great guide and NW primer. One of the reasons the Nightwish Army (I am reporting in from Southern California btw) is because the video and audio are so well recorded. This 2013 Wackin (pronounced "Vackin) concert (Germany), along with 2015's Wembely (UK) and Tempere (Finland) concerts were recorded for Blu-ray disc distribution. So they are phenomenally produced. As newcomers to Nightwish, as I once was, I also recommend that you continue exploring songs from this 2013 concert. It contains a great mix of both new (for 2013) and older NW wish favorites. It's interesting to note that it was only after this concert that Floor became an official member of Nightwish. These days it is hard to imagine Floor being a "temp" anywhere. Enjoy your journey down this rabbit hole. It is a rich vein to mine.
Our 1.83m Dutch Valkyrie Queen Floor Jansen is the third and present singer of Nightwish and widely considered the best and most versatile female singer of our time, yet undiscovered by a broad audience. As I am a Flooraholic from Utrecht, The Netherlands, here is some more background information on her. She joined the band 'After Forever' in 1997 at the age of 16. My favourite song is 'Energize Me'. They made a very beautiful music video out of this. Floor attended the then new Rock Academy in 1999 and graduated in 2003. Later she did a year Conservatory to learn some more classical singing. 'After Forever' disbanded in 2009 and Floor started her own band 'Revamp' from scratch. Here she experimented with different vocal styles within one song, such as from full operatic to serious growls in seconds. The songs 'Disdain' and 'Wild Card' are good examples. During this time Floor also did vocal coaching and as Floor is a perfectionist she wants to do everything at 100%+. Eventually she had to pay the price and got a burnout. She had just recovered when end of september 2012 the call came from Nightwish to fill in for the remainder of the American Tour as their second singer Annette got ill. Floor had just 48 hours to learn the whole setlist. There is a documentary made of this world tour ('Please learn the setlist in 48 hours'). The lyrics of the songs of Nightwish are very poetic and the music as a whole is challenging, but Floor pulled it off and she stayed for the whole world tour, culminating in the iconic Wacken 2013 Open Air festival which set new standards in open air concerts. It was obvious that the match Nightwish and Floor Jansen was made in Walhalla, so she became a permanent member of the band in 2013 as the relationship with Annette and the band was strained even before she became ill. Floor continued to perform with 'Revamp' for a couple of years, but it became clear that she could not combine the two for much longer, so Revamp disbanded in 2016. Floor did a side project called 'Northward' where she dived into the Hard Rock scene. The song 'While Love Died' is a must see. Her stunning performances on the Dutch TV show 'Beste Zangers 2019' gave her at last some more recognition in her home country where she was relatively unknown until then. There are numerous guest appearances with other bands to find on UA-cam. To see how to get a crowd of metalheads silenced and in awe, watch her featuring with the band 'Epica' and the song 'Stabat Mater Dolorosa'. And to see her in full opera mode watch her rendition of 'O Mio Babbino Caro' from Puccini. As live concerts were cancelled and home isolation due to the Covid situation, Floor discovered UA-cam in the last year and uploaded many interesting videos on her channel. Mindblowing covers, chats with her idols and other singers, vocal masterclasses, personal insights and so much more. She even made a video reacting to herself performing this song at Wacken. Lots of technical info and some memories of her starting with Nightwish. Also her 'Fan Friday' videos are hilarious. Just unpack some of the presents she left there. Floorgasm alert! Floor is a high sensitive person, so peace and quiet is as important for her. Living by the woods in Sweden with her husband Hannes Van Dahl (drummer of the band 'Sabaton'); daughter Freja (just turned 4 years last march); a horse and pony; a dog and a bunch of cats, she found this.
I was hoping you'd get a little deeper into yes and genesis before nightwish, haha. That being said as a classic rock and prog guy, I fell head over heels for this band and floor. You will feel right at home in their music... enjoy
I'm and old fan of symphonic / prog rock like Genesis, Yes, Renaissance, Marillion and so on, but i already fell in love with them 1998 when i heared them first with Tarja, and then there came up all these other symphonic metal bands like Within Temptation, Edenbridge, Epica, Ancient Bards .. and so on. That was in the end the new evolution of progressive/symphonic rock.
Good reaction. Nightwish is a lifetime journey to humanity and nature. Best live band in this Universe. Greets from Finland 🤘❤️🙏🏻 btw: do always live version 😉
Regarding Studio recording vs Live: two things I hold in high regard for music and musicianship: 1) can it elicit an emotive response? 2) can it be done as good, if not better, live? 1) Symphonic Metal has that epic/grand atmosphere baked into it, which lends it’s self to being really really well suited for live performances. Not to say the studio stuff doesn’t sound great, but live is where the power and passion can be felt. 2) This particular vocalist, Floor Jansen, is the 3rd and current front person for the band. The band has 25 years of music, but she only joined 8 years ago in 2013. So that’s 17 years of music that she was not a part of in the studio. Nothing against the original singer, Tarja Turunen (wonderful full on pure operatic and classical singing, no blending), but IMO this song is elevated by Floor’s ability to switch styles mid verse. It gives the music depth and dynamics that build the story better than the original. Not only does Floor sound great, but her stage presence and showmanship is unreal. Everything is intentional, but is still authentic and natural. She’s a beast at eliciting an emotional response: happy, anger, angst, suspense, longing, etc. For studio Floor albums you have two choices: “Endless Forms Most Beautiful” (2015) and “Human. Nature” (2020). All great studio albums, but honestly the live version of the available songs are better. There are 3 go-to concerts for current era Nightwish (Floor on the mic). All 3 were recorded and mixed as official live albums so the quality is top shelf. The full shows can be found on YT and the live albums can be found on Spotify and similar. - Wacken (“vacken”) Open Air 2013 - Wembley 2015 - Buenos Aires 2018 Again, I enjoy listening to the first singer (Tarja, 100% pure operatic), but for me her vocal style is like a really sweet dessert: amazing to taste in moderation, but too much makes you feel uneasy (my opinion only). However she was a huge part in the band making it big and there are amazing songs of that time period, live and studio. But my honest bias is that every live version Floor has done of a song that she didn’t record in the studio is either as good or often elevated above the studio version. Thanks for coming to my TedTalk :)
@@Atlas_Redux Hold up. Are you saying that Floor’s vocals, Mario’s vocals and bass, Jukka’s drums, Emppu’s guitar, Tuomas’s keyboard, and Troy’s pipes are all pre-recorded? Are you really claiming everything was not produced on stage live? Your comment is implying that they recorded each one of these songs in a studio and then pretended to play it live at Wacken. That’s quite the opposite of a live album. That’s a studio album that a band uses to fake their live performances. That is not this. They didn’t even have time in the studio with Floor in the band at this point. She was still only 8 months into her temp-replacement position and not formally announced as a full member (even though they had asked her at this point I think). Sure Nightwish uses click tracks with backing tracks for background choir/vocals and some of their orchestral parts that Tuomas doesn’t play on a synth. But everything else you hear is sung/played live on that stage. The audio was l recorded live for each individual’s mic/instrument and then mixed/balanced by a sound engineer in the studio to publish as an official live album. If your that much of a conspiracy theorist and still doubt me, go watch Bless The Child from Wacken. It’s the song after a instrumental hat gives Floor a vocal rest. When she comes back on stage she is even a little late which you can hear and see as she grabs the mic last minute.
@@Atlas_Redux BS - Floor does not and has never had a studio recording of ANY of the songs performed at that time. It is genuinely live music and if you listen to earlier performances and later ones you can tell that they are all subtly different. The only studio parts are the orchestral and choral backing, simply because it is not financially or logistically viable to drag around a full-scale entourage of world-class musicians on an 18-month world tour.
@@78yestor93 it's credible because it's my opinion. I've spent my entire life listening to every type of music I can find and I believe she's the best. I honestly don't even know another female to compare that not only has the singing ability but the stage presence. I'm always open for a different candidate if you think you have someone comparable let's here it
@@menwithven8114 Opinions only become credible when you have heard many different kinds of singers in various Genre's. I mean go look into pure Rock and you will find the Goddess Stevie Nicks, in folk you have Sandy Denny, for the pioneers of Prog/ Symphonic Rock you have Annie Haslam, Sonja Cristina. Other rock singers like Janis Joplin, Ann Wilson, Carol King, Joni Mitchel, Amy Winehouse, Kate Bush, Tina Turner I could go on and on and all these girls were True pioneers of Rock, singing and writing, the originals!!!
@@78yestor93 did you read my response? I'm 40 and have listened to EVERYONE in music. My favorite bands are Phish, Kendrick Lamar, Jimmy buffett, Pantera, Muse etc so I listen to everything I can get my hands on. I stand by my comment though. Yes there are many great front women that I highly respect but I think Floor is the most complete package. Not many singers are exceptional with their voice and with their stage presence. I genuinely want to know what other femal leads is better. Regardless it's just my opinion but I've actively looked for other female leads for a year now trying to find someone better so I would love suggestions
@@78yestor93 I think anytime someone makes that claim you have to interpret it as "I think they are really awesome and am a huge fan. Hopefully you will be too!" :)
I have followed you guys with one of my favorite bands, Porcupine Tree and loved your album reactions. I've always assumed you listened to Nightwish, so this was a treat to know how little you've unpacked. I hope this brings a lot of recognition to your channel because you two are perfect together and appreciate music for the artistry of it.
Greetings from the Scottish Division of the Nightwish Army, nice reaction, you seem a genuine lovely couple, keep it live if you can, it's the best for atmosphere, especially at Wacken, the whole set is flawless, alternatively try live at Tampere. subscribed🤘
Right....you wokeup the Nightwish army so get ready for a fantastic NIGHTWISH experiance , band from Finland , singer from the Netherlands and a guy who can play lots of instruments from GB
Welcome from the UK great reaction you've just witnessed our Queen (Floor Jansen) one of the best female artists in the world you haven't seen nothing yet enjoy your in for a long ride 🤘
Great reaction ❤️ NIGHTWISH IS SO GOOD 🥰 THIS IS BEAUTIFUL !!!! ALL THEIR SONGS HAVE A STORY ... 🔥 💥 🔥🤘🤘🤘 FLOOR is a great singer💕 What she sings is always AMAZING💕You can hear this all day long. I❤️Love Floor🥰 OUR QUEEN👸👑 FLOOR JANSEN is a soprano, with a range of more than three octaves (D3 to F6). Her singing style varies from opera to screaming and grunting. Mostly she sings in English, but she has also sung songs in Dutch, German, Spanish, Finnish, Latin, Italian and Swedish. 🥰 Love from the Netherlands 🇳🇱 💫 🇳🇱 🙋🏼 😘
Love that you guys are doing Nightwish. There's so many great live performances from them and the bass player Marco who unfortunately just left the band, also sings and has a great voice. Look forward to more live Nightwish from you guys.
Wacken is in Germany, north West of Hamburg, it is a small Village of about 1800 (indeed) inhabitants, but every year the biggest metal Festival of the world.
Welcome to Nightwish and the world of symphonic metal. Hope you'll jump in the rabbit hole - there is so much to listen, see and react too. NW will never disappoint, no song is a repetition, they'll keep you on your toes and wondering where are we going now. I heard Nick about the equipment - so just FYI Emppu - Guitar - custom made ESP EV1 Marko - Bass - Warwick Buzzard BO Jukka - Drums - Tama Drums & Paiste Cymbals Tuomas - Korg keyboards Floor - One if not The One most versatile voice on earth
Wacken is a small village in the north of Germany. It is the home of the biggest Heavy Metal Festival in the world. This evening Nightwish played in front of 82,000 spectators. Ghost Love Score was the 13th of 15 songs Nightwish performed this evening. You should listen to the whole concert!
One of the best reactions to this song ive ever seen and ive watched them all .....The Valkyrie Goddess is also known as Floor Jansen and she is a very special gift too us all ...next level vocalist who can literally sing anything with off the charts stage presence....and The Red Rocks would be the PERFECT place for Nightwish.
I think it's time for a little story please do storytime from same concert next and please do Nightwish only live . Prepare yourself for the nightwish Army
Definitely agree with the other commenters on the live versions -- don't forget that one of the reasons for this is that the singer is going to be different from the original album recording to the current live versions so if you want the current singer (Floor) the only recordings are going to be the live concerts. One further note: Gabriel, for some reason, omitted what is actually the #2 most requested song from the band, which is "The Poet and the Pendulum", a very long song, and one of the few for which the Wacken concert is not the source: see the Wembley 2015 live version at ua-cam.com/video/N4Vfy5yCy-c/v-deo.html. It is a fairly long song (13 min 55 sec) but contains some of Floor's most beautiful singing, and is a must "go-to" reaction for vocal coaches. Because the band is so talented and it is one of their best songs hardly anyone ever complains about how long it is after hearing it. Otherwise I agree with Gabriel's recommendations. And don't forget Floor's solo efforts: she did a great job of Lara Fabian's "Adagio", at ua-cam.com/video/KZRHLLM6AU4/v-deo.html, and she did a great job of the song from the movie "Oblivion", at ua-cam.com/video/KZRHLLM6AU4/v-deo.html. (Hopefully you know who Lara Fabian is -- she is good for reactions from vocal coaches too)! Keep well ... T.C.
Hello Nick and Lex. I loved your reaction. This was in the village Wacken in northern Germany.I suggest you listen to more Nightwish. You will rarely find 2 songs similar except for the quality. And ofcourse she is gracefull. She is our valkyrie Queen.
I think once you hear the backstory of how she first got into the band you may be more impressed with what she did that night .. the Wacken open air festival takes place in Germany .. thanks for the reaction and Happy 4th to you!
Nightwish Army, United States Division, 518th New York Battallion. Present and supporting! Great song to start your Nightwish journey. Songs like "The Greatest Show On Earth" and "Poet And The Pendulum" should be for much later after grasping most of Nightwish's music.
Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the [updated] short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory):
" Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer.
So be prepared. lol "
Hoping you'll continue this journey with us, I'll drop here a list of songs (with links) with the current lineup of the band you may like (please consider this list of links only as "a tip of the iceberg", an indication that they have a vast and very diverse repertoire, and not as something mandatory):

Last but not the least - they just released their 9th studio album on April 10th 2020 named "Human :||: Nature" - just take a peek to their official playlist: ua-cam.com/play/PLihZ3gi5Yvzc0pfH2cbNKUUX8o3pb8eVg.html (for example: "Shoemaker", the 3rd track from this album, tells the story of Eugene Shoemaker, one of the founders of planetary science, whose ash was sent on the Moon after his death, as a tribute from the scientific community ..)
The links presented above are with the current singer of the band, Floor Jansen, since I'm a fan of the recent era of the band, with Floor as the singer. I have nothing against previous singers, but I do not consider myself the most suitable person to give specific recommendations from their repertoires.
That being said, I will add here the message left the other days by some old fans of the band,
@Fabrizio Gorla: " To be fair to the old fanbase, you may want to include also some of these songs.

Hey, Gabriel!
Well done, once again, fearless leader!
@@gabriel.bardacyou beat me to it again - what else is new :o)
Welcome to the Nightwish Army!!! YOU ARE NOT READY FOR THIS!!!!!!!!!
If you want to view studio versions, I would suggest their newest material on Human :ii: Nature. It's all on video due to Covid.
I have all 5 concert DVD's.....1 with Tarja, 4 with F
All of the energy and associated visuals really come through with the LIVE performances.
Floor Jansen's voice is just spectacular.
her voice is everything
And she's versatile... Check out her side project, Northward, from 2017, and the song "While Love Died" for a different side of Floor. ua-cam.com/video/bAiPeSsqD-4/v-deo.html
Who is the best European singer? To battle about that question, you need to know the french singer Laure Le Prunenec. She is the female singer of the band Igorrr, and the main artist of the band Corpo-Mente that includes the brain of Igorrr, Gautier Serre, as well.
React to her:

Of course Nightwish music style has much more fans than Igorrr and Corpo-Mente styles.... ;)
This is the first reaction I've seen that picks up on Floor acknowledging the band. Love the gesture.
That, and the her bow to the crowd never fail to move me.
Another long awaited one :-)

Wacken is a big metal festival in Germany. This video is one of the most reacted to on UA-cam and for good reason. Be prepared for the Nightwish army to descend and give you all the information about the group and recommending just about everything from their live concerts on UA-cam.
Wacken is the Biggest Metal festival on Planet Earth.
Many European languages transpose the W sound and the V sound compared to English -- it is just a thing.
So Waken is pronounced "Vokken" and like veins is "wanes" , etc. Also Americans tend to pronounce names and places the way they want,
instead of the way the people who live their pronounce them -- there is no "Moss Cow" in Russia, even though that is what TV says. "Muskva" is about as close
to how the people there say it. Germany -- they call it Deutchland "Doychland" and they live there. French citizens call their country "Fronc-ey" and their capital
"Pa - ree" -- and a thousand other passive aggressive insults like that.
but Americans "don't need no foreigners tellin' them how to pronounce shit" I guess.

Be prepared, a huge army will arrive here very soon 🤪

@@TimoArula " stopped listening this band after Tarja left"
Nighwish Army Japan Division reporting in!
Plus, this song was like 1,5 hour into a 2 hour set if i remember correctly and she is still clear in her vocals.
Besides her Nightwish performances, you can also see Floor Jansen on the Dutch TV show Beste Zangers in 2019. She has also been recording videos at home during quarantine.
YES♥️♥️! Greetings from Finland🇫🇮, let's goooo!!

Great reaction guys. Absolutly top 👍😁
Welcome to Nightwish and Floor Jansen our Valkyrie Goddess and official Metal Queen.

So much this!! They are superb live and this concert was magical.
So gut live!!
How can you be the best when you don't even play live? They use to many backing tracks in their so called live shows.

Always live. That’s how you judge the band. Can they play, sing etc
@@bocatampere It's almost always best, when first listening to a song, to listen to the studio version first.

I was so happy when you turned up the volume lol! 😊

No auto tune for the Valkyrie Goddess of Metal and Empathy. She is all natural.

Well... Floor and Simone Simons from Epica is Xena and Gabrielle
Wow...what a voice. Talk about stage presence!!
Hi from the UK, so you have discovered Nightwish at last, the ultimate concert ending is from Tempare in Finland, The Greatest Show On Earth, which has everything , I nearly teared up toward the end of it, incredible and well worthy of reacting too. Great reaction here guys 🤘
Forgot to add, The Greatest Show On Earth is a musical masterpiece!
I think i've watched this performance 1000 times and the last part gets me emotional every single time 😍
She's the One. The blessing.
Nightwish Army is Coming! Enjoy the Ride ! ;)
Live is Nightwish’s specialty, it’s adds so much and they are so good it’s still epic. Enjoy your journey!
Love seeing people discover Nightwish ❤️ from Texas
I think they were all so calm because the band had finally found the perfect singer, and during this show they knew it.
- Wacken (“vacken”) Open Air 2013
- Wembley 2015
- Buenos Aires 2018
Again, I enjoy listening to the first singer (Tarja, 100% pure operatic), but for me her vocal style is like a really sweet dessert: amazing to taste in moderation, but too much makes you feel uneasy (my opinion only).
You just found the best female lead in history!!!!
That is a massive claim and one that is not credible when many other Female leads across the decades and genre's are taken into account!!
I hope this brings a lot of recognition to your channel because you two are perfect together and appreciate music for the artistry of it.
just wait for our information general Gabriel he will give you all the info. loved your reaction !!!
Great reaction ❤️ NIGHTWISH IS SO GOOD 🥰
THIS IS BEAUTIFUL !!!!
ALL THEIR SONGS HAVE A STORY ... 🔥 💥 🔥🤘🤘🤘
FLOOR is a great singer💕 What she sings is always AMAZING💕You can hear this all day long.
Love from the Netherlands 🇳🇱 💫 🇳🇱 🙋🏼 😘
You two are very nice people!!! Thx for your reaction
This live version of the song is the best version you will hear live or studio. It's amazing.
Welcome to Nightwish and the world of symphonic metal. Hope you'll jump in the rabbit hole - there is so much to listen, see and react too. NW will never disappoint, no song is a repetition, they'll keep you on your toes and wondering where are we going now. I heard Nick about the equipment - so just FYI
Emppu - Guitar - custom made ESP EV1
Marko - Bass - Warwick Buzzard BO
Jukka - Drums - Tama Drums & Paiste Cymbals
Tuomas - Korg keyboards
Floor - One if not The One most versatile voice on earth
Wacken is a small village in the north of Germany. It is the home of the biggest Heavy Metal Festival in the world. This evening Nightwish played in front of 82,000 spectators. Ghost Love Score was the 13th of 15 songs Nightwish performed this evening. You should listen to the whole concert!
The founding mem are Tuomas Holopainen, Marco Hietala, and Empu Vuorinen. The composer and arranger and lyricist is Tuomas.
All your prog-rock training has led to this day.
They are touring The States this fall. Check for their schedule!
Your best Nightwish experiences will be the live shows.
The Nightwish army I see is already coming your way
Welcome! This rabbit hole will get as deep as you let it. I hope you continue the journey. Thanks for the nice reaction.
Get that shovel ready, the Nightwish rabbit hole is DEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP!! 😉 🤘
Nightwish Army Texas Division reporting in! Thanks for the reaction
