Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory): " Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer. They are from Finland. Tuomas Holopainen, the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. Marco Hietala is the Bassist and vocals .And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen . Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrumentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition. Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile) - you just heard her. There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit, Decades live (Floor). Floor Jansen is a Valkyrie sent to Midgard by Odin to collect the souls of the fallen. Once here she realized that the easiest way to do that is to make every soul fall for her.

It is obvious that our Dutch Valkyrie Queen Floor Jansen has taken yet another soul. Yes she can do it all. She is the best and most versatile female singer of our time. To see how she developed this, check out her former bands 'After Forever' and 'Revamp'. She joined 'After Forever' in 1997 at the age of 16. My favourite song is 'Energize Me'. They made a very nice music video from this one. They disbanded in 2009 and Floor started her own band 'Revamp' from scratch. Here she experimented with different vocal styles within one song, from full operatic to serious growling in seconds. The songs 'Disdain' and 'Wild Card' are good examples. Then the call came from Nightwish in 2012 to fill in for the remainder of the American Tour at first. But the rest of the World Tour followed also. After she became a permanent member of Nightwish after this Wacken concert (the official announcement came later, but it was clear that this combination was made in Walhalla), she kept performing with 'Revamp' for a couple of years, but it became obvious, that she could not combine the two much longer and they disbanded in 2016. Her side project 'Northward' is also worth a look. The song 'While Love Died' shows yet another side of Floor. Her mindblowing performances on the Dutch TV show 'Beste Zangers 2019' gave her at last some more recognition in her home country, where she was relatively unknown until then. Also on UA-cam there are numerous guest appearances with other bands to find. As live concerts were cancelled and home isolation due to the Covid situation, Floor uploaded many interesting videos in the last year, such as chats with her idols and other singers. mindblowing covers, vocal masterclasses and so much more. Sharon probably as well. I personally like Anneke since her time as the lead vocalist of The Gathering. But this isn't a competition. I like Floor, too, but I would never say that she is the best or most versitile singer in the world. Tuomas Holopainen a.k.a Metal Mozart, keys, founded Nightwish in 1999 in Kitee Finland, a small town 10k people. He is the band leader, main songwriter, composition, lyrics, arrangement. The bassist/vocalist! Marko Hietala writes some of the songs, composition, lyrics, often together with Tuomas. Marko has his many side projects. He had a band Tarot with his older brother Zachary, the guitarist, starting in late 1980's. Marko's roots are in classical heavy rock. "All Hietala Power Trio" is a band with Marko, Zachary and Marko's son Miro, 19 on drums. They have play Black Sabbath covers for example. Marko joined Nightwish in 2001. He released a solo album in 2019. Other Finns in Nightwish. Emppu Vuorinen, guitar, Jukka Nevalainen, drums, Kai Hahto, Jukka's good friend, drums, replacing Jukka in 2015 due to Jukka's insomnia. The original female lead vocalist Tarja Turunen 1996-2005. She was followed by Anette Olzon from Sweden, 2007-2012. Floor Jansen, you just heard her and had your 1st Floogasm, joined Nightwish late 2012 on a 48 hour notice, replacing Anette in the midst of the Nightwish US tour. Floor is Dutch. Floor had just recovered from burnout and was attending her sister's wedding when she got a call from Tuomas asking her to join Nightwish. In Wacken 2013 she had been with Nightwish for 10 months only, and became an official member of the band a few months later. Troy Donockley, the multi-instrumentalist from the UK, is "the 6th member" of Nightwish. You'll hear him play later. He had occasionally played, in studio and on stage, with Nightwish for several years, but became a full member at the same time as Floor. Nightwish uses a backing track played by musicians from the London Philharmonic Orchestra and sung by a couple of choirs, the other one is a childrens' choir. Tuomas writes the music, Pip Williams helps with the orchestration.
Jinger blew your socks off and i understand it completely because she is a hell of a vocalist clean vocals and death growls but Floor is so much more yeah even the death growls she produced are mind blowing all other singers sing what they can.....Floor sings whatever she wants because she can do it al and the band....great muscians piece by piece, Thuomas (keys) is the mastermind of Nightwish he composes and whright the songs for 95% of what you hear and see and the guitar solo....Empu can schred his guitar but only when the songs need it the band doesn't show of but the can hold back the do waht the song needs all the songs of Wacken open air 2013 are mindblowing so it doesn't matter what song you pick you will not be dissapointed have fun and enjoy the Nightwish army (they are world wide) greetings from the Netherlands

@@scray00 well, it would obviously depend on what you'd define as "true opera" or, better yet, how you'd define Floor's vocal capabilities, without the use of a microphone, to be heard over a full orchestra in a packed concert hall. I've watched hundreds of reaction videos with Floor singing, especially where the reactions are done by classically trained vocal coaches and the common denominator amongst them is that, despite her incredible vocal skills, she doesn't have enough resonance to perform a true opera concert in a packed hall, without any damage to her vocal chords. But maybe you could shed some light into this issue.

I love that you mention about the "guitar solo". Emppu is a beast on the guitar, he can do those fancy speedy tapping and shredding too but he always delivers "just enough". And just like you said, it always sounds like a literal part of the story being told, not as a "hey look at me go brrrr"

This genre is regularly called Symphonic Metal. All the symphonic music you hear (on almost every song of Nightwish is written by Tuomas (keyboards) but is performed by the London Philharmonic Orchestra. Since there’s not enough space on stage for a full live orchestra (and also couldn’t go with them on world tour for more than a year) it’s a running soundtrack pre-recorded at Angel Studios, London. Now you have scratched the surface of wht Nighwish can do, and Floor Jansen's range of capabilites, you are going to be blown away by the rest. We like to see this as a gentle introduction. No, I am not joking. And congratulations on your first Floorgasm. The genre is really Nightwish, but is generally classed alongside symphonic metal, although they defy pigeonholing. There is an orchestra behind them (The London Philharmonic Orchestra), and two choirs (London's Metro Voices and the London Young musicians Childrens Choir). Touring with that many is not practically or financially viable though, and fans wait in hope for maybe a one off special live performance with all the backing present in person. Tuomas, on keyboards, writes almost all of it, but takes input from other members once he has put together a demo for them to understand what he is after. This is Floor's favorite song to sing. Welcome to our Valkyrie. 2 yrs of Opera training. She is a voice technic nerd and a Highly Sensitive Person. She has her own UA-cam channel. Thomas the in Keyboardist writes most of the songs ,the Bassist can sing also, Floor is Valkyrie and Empuu the guitar superman and Jukka is amazing here but he had to quit drumming because he has a bad case of Insomnia. Floor was also a vocal coach and is Nightwish's 3rd singer. Thomas and Empuu and Jukka are the original band members. Their transition s are awesome and Floor and Marko the Bassist are really great together. This is also Floor's 3rd band since she was 16. Her stage presence and her breath control is amazing. You haven't seen anything yet from the band and Floor.

Actually, in this band, the bass guittar does a lot to complete the massive sound that Nightwish makes and boosts the drive. And the guitarist? Don't you worry, he can shred with the best of them. Also, hate to break the news to you but some of the symphonic sound is tracked - actually, that is what gives Nightwish's sound extra layers of depth. And by all means, feel free to explore more, you will find greater variation, they still do their music, only so much better, with their 2020 release. Hope you like them.

Floor is the third female vocalist that Nightwish have had, she was only with them on tour for 10 months at this point and officially joined the band in 2013, she is still with them today. The other band members are - Tuomas Holopainen - Song writer/composer and Keyboards. (Finland) Marko Hietala - Bassist and vocals. (United Kingdom) Floor herself is Dutch and is another glorious rabbit hole of awesome as she has a lot of non-Nightwish related stuff that she has done that is all pretty amazing as well. The name of the genre they generally belong to is Symphonic Metal but their discography is extremely varied. This was the 13th song in this particular set, she is belting notes like that the entire set. Nighwish are almost always better experienced with live versions of their songs if at all possible. Some suggestions for more songs for you to continue your journey would be Storytime, Ever Dream, Romanticide, Nemo, Amaranth and Song of Myself all from Wacken 2013. Saying that, anything from Wacken 2013 is golden really to start, there's a reason why that set is pretty legendary at this point, 82,000 people were in attendance. Beware of some messed up slowed down versions of the Wacken 2013 songs as they can take the energy right out of the performances, just check the comments on them and I'm sure someone will mention if it's a slowed down version. Your choice obviously but I'd avoid Poet and the Pendulum and The Greatest Show on Earth for now until you are more familiar with the band and it's history, they will make alot more sense and be more enjoyable for you that way. They record orchestral backing tracks at Angel Studios with musicians from the London Philharmonic orchestra so a lot of the orchestra parts you hear really are full orchestra as opposed to synth work. Toamas does the initial composing and then he an Pip Williams complete the adaptation for full orchestra. Ditto the background choir parts - Metro Voices of London. Welcome to symphonic metal! Tuomas the keyboardist composes most of the songs so they tend to be more keyboard driven, but a huge part of NW songs are the pre recorded symphonic orchestra and choir parts.They have heavier songs, with more guitar work and drums. But also folky stuff, with the sixth member Troy playing uillean pipes, bouzouki and wind instruments. Nice reaction, keep it up.

Im 60 now and this is my fav live performance ever , taken over from Led Zep / Stairway To Heaven at madison square gardens . This is the 13th song of a 15 song set , bought the CD straight away . Shout out for the drummer awesome
Thanks for a lovely reaction - was great seeing you discover this band! :) You gave me a good laugh around 13.00, where your brain just had a meltdown, and you just ended up saying “eeeggplhplehdgd”, lol. Now, pretty much everyone will recommend that you do some more songs from the Wacken concert to start with - and I’ll do the same. My favourite is “Song of Myself” - and is a good choice if you like it a bit harder, and would like to see how they don’t stick to any rule book when it comes to writing songs. “Romanticide” is also a bit harder and a bit more thrashy - and it’s a typical choice for a second song. “Storytime” is a really good feel-good song, but is an example of a more poppy song from them. Finally, if you’d like to see how they open a concert, then you could try the opener from that concert, which is “Dark Chest of Wonders”. Just watch out for the versions which have things like “4K/blueray” in the title - they are from a bad blueray rip and are slower than they should be. Lastly, just a friendly tip, if that’s ok: When you stop the video to talk (love that you do that, rather than talking over it), try and go back just a tiny bit, since it gives you (and us) a better flow to the song, despite the pausing - if that makes sense. You can just use the left arrow key on your keyboard - pressing that will rewind the video 5 secs or so, and is much easier for you than having to use the mouse to find the right spot :) Looking forward to seeing your next video! :D
Nightwish is from Finland, so probably Vikings more than musketeers...lol. Floor Jansen, the vocalist, is from the Netherlands. They are a much more diverse band than you might think from this one song...not all of their songs sound like this and, even regarding Floor’s vocals, you’ve only scratched the surface. Anything from this Wacken 2013 show is brilliant, but I’d specifically recommend these songs from that show to get a sense of what they can do: Song of Myself, Storytime, Romanticide, and Everdream.

Great reaction. You know what your talking about! This is a nice introduction song, from this point on they will not stop to amaze you. And about Floor.... nobody have found the bottom of what she is capable of, you will see. Nice to know is that Floor wasn't even a member of the band during this show. She was asked to help them out half way this Tour,because the official singer needed to quit due to health problems. Floor learned the whole setlist in 48 hours. "Of course the crowd is clapping out of time". Actually, they cannot help it. Sound travels only at 340-ish yards per second. So on such a big field (82,000 visitors) the average distance to the podium dictates they will be late. And than...the crowd doesn't have mic's... So their sound must travel back to the stage before it gets picked up by a mic. Hence the clapping on a field can never be in sync. It is one of the reasons such performances require in-ear monitors. It is also the reason why she signals with her arm when she wants crowd to clap (or hey) along. It cuts the delay in half. A really cool thing to see in such a big crowd: when you look down from the stage, you can actually see the sound waves travelling though the crowd, because of their delay in movement.

Tuomas Holopainen on keyboards is the composer and lyricist. He has three keyboards, a backing track controller ( the backing track which he composed, arranged and conducted with the London Symphony Orchestra and the London Metro Voices Choir with Pip Williams!) AND some SPFX triggers - which , being live, is all on the GO! He is THE Metal Mozart! (from Finland) AND he headbangs like mad WHILE PLAYING!!!!!!!

Welcome to the world of symphonic metal! And thank you for checking this legendary band, performing here at Wacken Open Air festival 2013, together with Floor Jansen, the 3rd and present female singer of the band, in front of a 82k audience.
Also a recent sad news - these days Marco Hietala, the bass player and male singer of the band, announced his retirement both from the band and the public life for the next year at least - we'll see what the future brings to us.
About the instrumental and vocal added parts - it's good to know they recorded their orchestral and vocal back tracks with prestigious institutions as London Philharmonic Orchestra. London's The Metro Voices choir group and London's Young Musicians Children's Choir as their regular partners.
As I saw, you enjoyed the powerful performance of the band, together with the stellar vocals of our Dutch metal queen, Floor Jansen. Hope you'll continue on this path.
Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory):
" Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer. They are from Finland.
Tuomas Holopainen, the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. Marco Hietala is the Bassist and vocals .And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen . Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrumentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition.
Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile) - you just heard her.
There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit, Decades live (Floor). I hope this helps.

It is obvious that our Dutch Valkyrie Queen Floor Jansen has taken yet another soul. Yes she can do it all. She is the best and most versatile female singer of our time. To see how she developed this, check out her former bands 'After Forever' and 'Revamp'. She joined 'After Forever' in 1997 at the age of 16. My favourite song is 'Energize Me'. They made a very nice music video from this one. They disbanded in 2009 and Floor started her own band 'Revamp' from scratch. Here she experimented with different vocal styles within one song, from full operatic to serious growling in seconds. The songs 'Disdain' and 'Wild Card' are good examples. Then the call came from Nightwish in 2012 to fill in for the remainder of the American Tour at first. But the rest of the World Tour followed also. After she became a permanent member of Nightwish after this Wacken concert (the official announcement came later, but it was clear that this combination was made in Walhalla), she kept performing with 'Revamp' for a couple of years, but it became obvious, that she could not combine the two much longer and they disbanded in 2016. Her side project 'Northward' is also worth a look. The song 'While Love Died' shows yet another side of Floor. Her mindblowing performances on the Dutch TV show 'Beste Zangers 2019' gave her at last some more recognition in her home country, where she was relatively unknown until then. Also on UA-cam there are numerous guest appearances with other bands to find. As live concerts were cancelled and home isolation due to the Covid situation, Floor uploaded many interesting videos in the last year, such as chats with her idols and other singers. mindblowing covers, vocal masterclasses and so much more. Just go to her UA-cam channel and unpack some of the presents she left there. Floorgasm alert! Her latest video is a must see. She reacts to herself doing this performance at Wacken 2013. Coming to singers: Simone is without a doubt better than Floor. Sharon probably as well. I personally like Anneke since her time as the lead vocalist of The Gathering. But this isn't a competition. I like Floor, too, but I would never say that she is the best or most versitile singer in the world. Those people who claim that should listen more carefully to The Greatest Show on Earth: "The potential people who could have been here in my place but who will in fact never see the light of day outnumber the sand grains of Sahara. Tuomas Holopainen a.k.a Metal Mozart, keys, founded Nightwish in 1999 in Kitee Finland, a small town 10k people.
He is the band leader, main songwriter, composition, lyrics, arrangement.
The bassist/vocalist! Marko Hietala writes some of the songs, composition, lyrics, often together with Tuomas. Marko has his many side projects. He had a band Tarot with his older brother Zachary, the guitarist, starting in late 1980's. Marko's roots are in classical heavy rock. "All Hietala Power Trio" is a band with Marko, Zachary and Marko's son Miro, 19 on drums. They have play Black Sabbath covers for example. Marko joined Nightwish in 2001. He released a solo album in 2019.
Other Finns in Nightwish. Emppu Vuorinen, guitar, Jukka Nevalainen, drums, Kai Hahto, Jukka's good friend, drums, replacing Jukka in 2015 due to Jukka's insomnia. The original female lead vocalist Tarja Turunen 1996-2005.
She was followed by Anette Olzon from Sweden, 2007-2012. Floor Jansen, you just heard her and had your 1st Floogasm, joined Nightwish late 2012 on a 48 hour notice, replacing Anette in the midst of the Nightwish US tour. Floor is Dutch.
Floor had just recovered from burnout and was attending her sister's wedding when she got a call from Tuomas asking her to join Nightwish.
In Wacken 2013 she had been with Nightwish for 10 months only, and became an official member of the band a few months later. Troy Donockley, the multi-instrumentalist from the UK, is "the 6th member" of Nightwish. You'll hear him play later. He had occasionally played, in studio and on stage, with Nightwish for several years, but became a full member at the same time as Floor.

Live is best - from Wacken 2013 which has ultra hi-quality recording: 1) Storytime, 2) EverDream, 3) Romanticide (harder metal but an example of her jaw-dropping 4-5 octave range at the end), 4) Song of Myself - and all the rest from the same concert is incredible. And there are great operatic vids of her like Phantom of the Opera and so much more. Anything by Floor Jansen and Nightwish is amazing. :) Glad you've finally discovered Nightwish - and get ready to be invaded by the Nightwish Army - they're coming! :)

@@scray00 well, it would obviously depend on what you'd define as "true opera" or, better yet, how you'd define Floor's vocal capabilities, without the use of a microphone, to be heard over a full orchestra in a packed concert hall.
I've watched hundreds of reaction videos with Floor singing, especially where the reactions are done by classically trained vocal coaches and the common denominator amongst them is that, despite her incredible vocal skills, she doesn't have enough resonance to perform a true opera concert in a packed hall, without any damage to her vocal chords.
But maybe you could shed some light into this issue.

This genre is regularly called Symphonic Metal.
All the symphonic music you hear (on almost every song of Nightwish is written by Tuomas (keyboards) but is performed by the London Philharmonic Orchestra. Since there’s not enough space on stage for a full live orchestra (and also couldn’t go with them on world tour for more than a year) it’s a running soundtrack pre-recorded at Angel Studios, London. The genre is really Nightwish, but is generally classed alongside symphonic metal, although they defy pigeonholing.
There is an orchestra behind them (The London Philharmonic Orchestra), and two choirs (London's Metro Voices and the London Young musicians Childrens Choir). Touring with that many is not practically or financially viable though, and fans wait in hope for maybe a one off special live performance with all the backing present in person. Tuomas, on keyboards, writes almost all of it, but takes input from other members once he has put together a demo for them to understand what he is after.
Watch for a comment by Gabriel Bardac, who will drop the new reactors packet of information on you - and pin it, as it is gold you will want to find and refer to, and may otherwise get lost in the comments as the Nightwish Army mobilises.

This is Floor's favorite song to sing. Welcome to our Valkyrie. 2 yrs of Opera training. She is a voice technic nerd and a Highly Sensitive Person. She has her own UA-cam channel. Thomas the in Keyboardist writes most of the songs ,the Bassist can sing also, Floor is Valkyrie and Empuu the guitar superman and Jukka is amazing here but he had to quit drumming because he has a bad case of Insomnia. Floor was also a vocal coach and is Nightwish's 3rd singer. Thomas and Empuu and Jukka are the original band members. Their transition s are awesome and Floor and Marko the Bassist are really great together. This is also Floor's 3rd band since she was 16. Her stage presence and her breath control is amazing. You haven't seen anything yet from the band and Floor.

Actually, in this band, the bass guittar does a lot to complete the massive sound that Nightwish makes and boosts the drive. And the guitarist? Don't you worry, he can shred with the best of them.
Also, hate to break the news to you but some of the symphonic sound is tracked - actually, that is what gives Nightwish's sound extra layers of depth.
And by all means, feel free to explore more, you will find greater variation, they still do their music, only so much better, with their 2020 release. Hope you like them.

This is Symphonic Heavy Metal, by the way😉. The backing orchestral track is recorded with London Symphonic orchestra. The guy on the keyboards (Tuomas Holopainen) is Nightwish's Mastermind and main composer. He is Metal Mozart of our time!) so keyboards are REALLY important in Nightwish))) because all of their music (ok, maybe 98% of it) is written on the keyboards at first)) really good catch!!

Nightwish is a glorious rabbit hole of awesome, with world class song-writing, musicianship and arguably (or unarguably to most who've heard her enough😉) the best female vocalist alive today (maybe ever), Floor Jansen.
Floor is the third female vocalist that Nightwish have had, she was only with them on tour for 10 months at this point and officially joined the band in 2013, she is still with them today.
The other band members are -
Tuomas Holopainen - Song writer/composer and Keyboards. (Finland)
Marko Hietala - Bassist and vocals. (Finland)
Emppu Vuorinen - Guitarist (Finland)
Jukka Nevalainen - Drums (Finland)

Floor herself is Dutch and is another glorious rabbit hole of awesome as she has a lot of non-Nightwish related stuff that she has done that is all pretty amazing as well.
The name of the genre they generally belong to is Symphonic Metal but their discography is extremely varied.
This was the 13th song in this particular set, she is belting notes like that the entire set.
Nighwish are almost always better experienced with live versions of their songs if at all possible.
Some suggestions for more songs for you to continue your journey would be Storytime, Ever Dream, Romanticide, Nemo, Amaranth and Song of Myself all from Wacken 2013.
Saying that, anything from Wacken 2013 is golden really to start, there's a reason why that set is pretty legendary at this point, 82,000 people were in attendance.
Beware of some messed up slowed down versions of the Wacken 2013 songs as they can take the energy right out of the performances, just check the comments on them and I'm sure someone will mention if it's a slowed down version.
Your choice obviously but I'd avoid Poet and the Pendulum and The Greatest Show on Earth for now until you are more familiar with the band and it's history, they will make alot more sense and be more enjoyable for you that way.

They record orchestral backing tracks at Angel Studios with musicians from the London Philharmonic orchestra so a lot of the orchestra parts you hear really are full orchestra as opposed to synth work. Toamas does the initial composing and then he an Pip Williams complete the adaptation for full orchestra. Ditto the background choir parts - Metro Voices of London.

Tuomas the keyboardist composes most of the songs so they tend to be more keyboard driven, but a huge part of NW songs are the pre recorded symphonic orchestra and choir parts.They have heavier songs, with more guitar work and drums. But also folky stuff, with the sixth member Troy playing uillean pipes, bouzouki and wind instruments. Nice reaction, keep it up.

You gave me a good laugh around 13.00, where your brain just had a meltdown, and you just ended up saying “eeeggplhplehdgd”, lol.
Now, pretty much everyone will recommend that you do some more songs from the Wacken concert to start with - and I’ll do the same.
My favourite is “Song of Myself” - and is a good choice if you like it a bit harder, and would like to see how they don’t stick to any rule book when it comes to writing songs.
“Romanticide” is also a bit harder and a bit more thrashy - and it’s a typical choice for a second song.
“Storytime” is a really good feel-good song, but is an example of a more poppy song from them.
Finally, if you’d like to see how they open a concert, then you could try the opener from that concert, which is “Dark Chest of Wonders”.
Just watch out for the versions which have things like “4K/blueray” in the title - they are from a bad blueray rip and are slower than they should be.
Lastly, just a friendly tip, if that’s ok:
When you stop the video to talk (love that you do that, rather than talking over it), try and go back just a tiny bit, since it gives you (and us) a better flow to the song, despite the pausing - if that makes sense.
You can just use the left arrow key on your keyboard - pressing that will rewind the video 5 secs or so, and is much easier for you than having to use the mouse to find the right spot :)

I just discovered Nightwish and I'm mesmerized.
Nightwish is from Finland, so probably Vikings more than musketeers...lol. Floor Jansen, the vocalist, is from the Netherlands. They are a much more diverse band than you might think from this one song...not all of their songs sound like this and, even regarding Floor’s vocals, you’ve only scratched the surface. Anything from this Wacken 2013 show is brilliant, but I’d specifically recommend these songs from that show to get a sense of what they can do: Song of Myself, Storytime, Romanticide, and Everdream.

Actually, they cannot help it. Sound travels only at 340-ish yards per second. So on such a big field (82,000 visitors) the average distance to the podium dictates they will be late. And than...the crowd doesn't have mic's... So their sound must travel back to the stage before it gets picked up by a mic. Hence the clapping on a field can never be in sync. It is one of the reasons such performances require in-ear monitors. It is also the reason why she signals with her arm when she wants crowd to clap (or hey) along. It cuts the delay in half.
A really cool thing to see in such a big crowd: when you look down from the stage, you can actually see the sound waves travelling though the crowd, because of their delay in movement.

Aussie here! I could say I told you so but few, if any, listened to me about this band and this particular song in 2004 (they started 1996)!.... Tuomas Holopainen on keyboards is the composer and lyricist. He has three keyboards, a backing track controller ( the backing track which he composed, arranged and conducted with the London Symphony Orchestra and the London Metro Voices Choir with Pip Williams!) AND some SPFX triggers - which , being live, is all on the GO! He is THE Metal Mozart! (from Finland) AND he headbangs like mad WHILE PLAYING!!!!!!!

@@VonSchnitzelCrumREACTS Yeah! I'd rather be him than me sometimes!... We have almost the same birthday too - I'm 26/12 in Aus. and he was 25/12 in Finland.. Don't know if stars really rule fate but sometimes....... GLS felt like "I know this" the first time I heard it.... not mentally but from inside, you sabby?.... Like, THIS is the music I've been looking for.... Some in my family even knew of Nightwish from 1996/ the first album and I wish I'd paid attention to them!
