  • We show you the ATM cave in San Ignacio, Cayo District, Belize. National Geographic rated this number one its list of "Sacred Places of a Lifetime."
    Natgeo has a great documentary on the site itself but there’s not a lot of footage on the cave itself as cameras have been banned from the cave since 2012. The Actun Tunichil Muknal cave is a place to explore and discover the ancient Maya culture and the tragic location of Mayan sacrifice. You will spend 4-5 hours spelunking, swimming, climbing, and sliding underground to reach numerous ancient artifacts and skeletons from the Mayan civilization. The “crystal maiden” is the most famous skeleton but recently the gender has been unconfirmed or questioned so its more like the “crystal person” for the time being. If you are in the Cayo district of Belize, don’t hesitate to book this thrilling and epic tour with plenty of Indiana Jones and culture mixed together.

    Great video with a lot of information. Thank you. I saw people in group wearing snickers w/o socks. Any tips regarding clothing? What's the water temperature? Air temperature? Approximately

      Do you have to be a strong swimmer? I’m taking lessons but a very new swimmer

      @Ren-tw7zq Рік тому

      @@aishamh no you dont have to be a strong swimmer , my family and I did it and the most swimming you have to do is at the beginning like the opening of the cave that you see, the chute about 5 mins after you enter but theres rocks around you to grab, and the end across the river but theres a guide rope to hold onto, my little sister (10yrs old) did it just fine and had a blast. it will be a little challenging if youre big bodied. but even if you are theres different paths to take to accommodate. 1000000% recommend it was AMAZING!

    Do you have to be a good swimmer?

    • @CrazyEmptyNest
      @CrazyEmptyNest  2 роки тому +2

      No, you can dog paddle or they will give you a life vest if necessary. As long as you can tread water and swim about 30 feet, you will be fine. Hope this helps! - Jenny and Lance

    • @CrazyEmptyNest

      No, actually like regular socks. They don't allow any hard soled type footwear near the artifacts. - Lance and Jenny

    Well, if they don't allow cameras and photos inside this cave system after traveling so far to capture some good memories, I'll just scratch this place off my list! Not even worth going to see if you can't have some personal vacation memories to take home!

    • @lindsaygonzales3598

      the reason you cant bring belongings with you is because someone dropped their phone a few years ago and it shattered one of the skulls that was left in the cave. if you're going to have an attitude like that, i doubt you truly cherish your memories anyway. you have a brain that remembers your memories for you and thats more than enough!

    • @Ren-tw7zq
      @Ren-tw7zq Рік тому

      no no, you honestly should go, someone dropped their camera on a skull and broke it years ago, ive done it and its absolutely amazing! if anything this is 100% a bucket list experience!
