- Cockscomb basin wildlife sanctuary in Belize is the first jaguar reserve in Belize. Cockscomb is centrally located to Hopkins, Placencia, and Dangriga and makes for an exciting day of nature in the jungle featuring jungle hikes and waterfall hikes. Cockscomb basin wildlife sanctuary tours are available but self-guided hiking is also easy with their trail and map system. Cockscomb features some of the best Belize hiking in the country and in this video you’ll see the trail system and some of the beautiful waterfalls which we got to visit with no other people around.

Thanks for the great video, really helpful in planning my trip to Placencia. Hoping you can answer a question. Do you need a 4x4 or All Wheel drive vehicle for the road to the Jaguar Preserve and Mayan World?
It depends on the season? The roads are dirt roads going into the jungle so if it's the rainy season - Yes. If It's the dry season, you might be okay with a regular car. Hope this helps! - Jenny and Lance

It's about an hour drive and yes, we rented a car for the day to get there.
One more quick question, since you drove yourself, I’m assuming you didn’t pay for an “excursion” package, if not, do you just pay to get into the park once you arrive? Thank you again
@@gregmayen3321 - Yes, there's a small building when you enter the park that you pay at. We can't remember the price but I believe it was $10USD. The Maya King Waterfall has it's own fee that you pay to a gate attendant when you turn off the main highway. Hope this helps! - Jenny and Lance
