    I had faith in Blake’s ability after seeing him work with Spirit. I think Blake just has that special connection with animals, at least horses. I don’t think Blake would have done it if he didn’t think he & the horse were ready. It is enjoyable watching father & son working together to accomplish a goal. Congrats to Blake on the sale of that beautiful horse. Happy Father’s Day, Allen. Blessings, Love & Hugs from Vicki in Ft. Worth, Texas 🇨🇱🇺🇸👍❤️🐴😊🙏🙏🙏

    Old jeans filled to the knee with sand thrown over the saddle.
    Lunge in the round pin or with a lead on the ground.
    This method has save both my horse and me a ton on injuries.

    A good idea when cinching colts is if you tighten the cinch move there feet. The rule I follow when starting colts is if I change anything , and I mean anything I then move their feet. Usually lunge them. That way they can express their self and when you go to get on they dont have that bottled up emotion that they still want to express. But ponying a colt is a great way to handle them and it gives the horse that is less self confident something to follow.

    I wd have definitely done more ground work with this horse before mounting him; its hard on the horse if enough ground work is not done first to defuse the mounting n going forward scenario; but its not terrible. yes ive had several horses...also when breaking in young horses a helmet is a MUST for safety. a relative of mine insisted on wearing a felt cowboy hat while riding his older calm gelding but the horse spooked or tripped and he was thrown against a metal bar fence exactly like in this clip and ended up with permanent brain damage. so preventable!!

    • @sshepard5222
      @sshepard5222 3 роки тому +4

      Lauren As an Australian equestrian everyone here wears helmets, you can’t compete without one and you need them to be in date and a certain quality grade. You can’t ride at barns without them, so almost everyone naturally does it here, I know its the same in the UK. I always find it odd watching American riders since most don’t wear them and really respect Fallon Taylor for doing so after she broke her neck but gob smacked she openly gets hate from other riders for wearing one barrel racing. It’s up to others what they do, but I could never ride without one

    Well at least they are in the soft sand of the wash, better landing if he goes off. Also having the other horse there and a lead on the beginner horse might be safer than if he was out there alone with the new horse? I don't know as I am no expert. All I do know is I would rather fall off in soft sand than get thrown in a pen and landing on the panels or the hard ground. horse conversation at first: Paint to Bay, hey buddy save me from this will ya! Little later: Paint says to Bay, well if you are ok I guess I am ok, just stay close please! Having a calm horse with a rider seems to be working psychologically for the Paint. MOM, that is what we do worry about our kids getting hurt, but honestly today's shenanigans are probably less dangerous than playing football. So many young players and even professionals get head injuries in football even with all the gear they use. Blake only puts the his boot in the stirrups up to the ball of HIS foot, that way he is much less likely to get dragged IF this new colt decides to freak out. Bay to Paint: see I told you it was no big deal!

      Clinton Anderson uses horse psychology and technique to coerce them. His attitude is domineering and punitive. Too much human machismo.

    Good job, but take off that back girth. I could put my leg through it. So can the horse. Back girth are only good in a area. Sometimes. You have never heard of anyone getting hurt who did not have a back girth on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Well my first wife was like you she was never ready for me to get on a green horse and after over 20 broke bones I guess she was right but my last wife is a doctor so that's a blessing now I am at the end of my road to life and I enjoy the video Reed and Amy Flake are like family to me when the cancer gets the best of me l just lay in this bed and forget the pain with the videos now. Godbless yall from this old cowboy from Texas . They sometimes call me the old silver fox but the truth is like the old gray dog in the yard now that dont get off the porch to chance the cars anymore.
    Thank yall .

      He will be fine. They need this pre school before they move on. In different circles we take much time to get here. But different circumstances call for different methods.

      You can have a horse more prepared to ride than this and do it on a time crunch, which unfortunately you have to abide by if you're training for the public. They want it done yesterday. I used to take horses from halter broke to riding on day one, but I always made sure they were less reactive than this horse. Its about being good with pressure and release and the timing and feel of it. It's something you learn with time and experience, if you're open minded to learn it. Obviously this way of training "works", he's on the horse and riding it. But eventually you run into horses that say "I don't think so" and you've got to find a way before that happens to read them a little better. Movement is a horse trainers best friend, learn to use it to your advantage instead of trying to control and prevent the movement.

      @@amandak3198 it's it's not how I'd do it, but they seem calm and kind and quiet. Some of these horses have basically been rescued from starvation. This isn't his profession. I think he said he works in education. Whoever gets these horses can go back to whatever basics they choose.

    Gotta say, you two seem like you’ve raised some really great kids. It’s real warming to see you’ve raised some hard working, bright and good hearted people, we need more people like them and more good parents like yourselves. And man is Blake brave and talented with horses. Love the videos and love your respectful ways of breaking horses.

    Not nearly enough ground work and preparation was done with this horse before getting on!
