Alan, just a thought or suggestion... the little girl is holding the rope with one hand inside the loop. I taught my kids to lead with hand that is next to horse with single rope and the slack have hand around or over the loops of rope. If that makes any sense. So the wild or tame horse spooks and jumps doesn’t take fingers. My grandpa lost a finger when he was a boy that way. I just wanted to help🤷🏻‍♀️. Thank you for your videos I truly enjoy watching. I’m old and can no longer work horses so watching you all is a lot of fun for me. God bless.

Yay it’s harder than I remember to lead a Horse . I have an 8 mos. old Colt . But my Husband and I go back and forth at how close to hold the lead rope . Seems it is what is needed for the moment. But I saved myself from being run over because I had a long lead when He started to run . He came to my side away from me , and gave me much better chance to calm Him . He slipped in the mud . But no injuries to either of us . Glad I was giving Him room with the lead rope . I still don’t know exactly the perfect way to lead . Keep sharing your experiences! I’m listening Laura 💜 Bear 🐴

She is going to have such a hard time selling that colt. You can tell that the colt has already started to bond to her. I love seeing kids working with horses. My kids and my nieces and nephews showed 4H in southern Az. It is very rewarding for them and makes great memories.

😁😁. Wish could give many 👍 to this video cuz has all the elements of a family loving what they do and definitely cuteness overload. Am taking it easy and being new I wanted to see more videos you’ve shared and learn mire about you. One thing I noticed is every horse is a “colt” even if a mare or filly. You’ve started a trend and I’ve heard your explanation and I’ve laughed so hard. Just as long if any paperwork the right term is there. And for the kids I hope they understand the difference and it’s all done with affection. 😂😂🤣. Sure funny and wonder how it got started. Being visual thinker I can imagine a stranger and look on face when realizes it’s really a sweet filly or mare. In breeding the confusion on a kids face who gets what birds and bees about and sees a stallion/colt breeding a “colt” and not a mare. 😅😂🤣. It sure matches your sense of humor and “dad jokes” and I love you being you. You really have a trend going and it’s hilarious 👍👍👍. Got memories of my daughter buying her first horse just like Emily and a smile that lasted forever. We had 49 purebred Arabians one Tennessee Walker and 5 quarter horses and one was part Arabian. She had her choice but neighbor ranch had part palomino and Arabian horse she’d see everyday while walking to school. Didn’t have quite enough but did a good job bartering and them gramps matched what she had with extra for equipment of her own. Had some requests and she followed every one of them. She was on short side at 11 years old but she trained that 17 hand mare to help her saddle up and get on her. Momma fear was thinking that dang sure a long ways to fall for my sunshine girl. But all was good for 5 years and she made a profit and got another. Like you do with your own kids ya can only hope they learned lessons and keep door open for lots of good communication skills. Always fun to know how even Blake learned and his history growing up following you. We adorned our walls with pictures of each new baby having first ride and the different expressions and some crying too. And this is why I’m loving your videos and your family as am feeling a rush of familiarity and dang so many memories. Sorry for long comments as I share long ago moments that are locked away until now. You’ve made this old broken heart feel your passion and could be sharing my life too. You’re doing a fine job and if ya don’t mind or get tired of my stories as well I’d like to stay and enjoy your own journey in a beautiful part of the country. Until your next video ......have a great day making your own memories and sharing your knowledge as ya just keep learning and being gentle with each horse and animal. 💖💖💖💖💖❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️💝💝💝💝

Emily should have at least 6 weeks before the next trim so work with the colts feet and sacking out , I used a towel at first then a bag . Maybe tie bags around the pen , my shoer had me feed my filly her hay on a tarp she got so used to it she would drag it around the pasture . I had to keep putting the rocks back on the 4 courners twice a day . lol she had fun with it .

I have been a horseman for most of my 70 years. I can not tell you the dangers of using a rope halter on young horses. You must have not seen a case of "poll evil ". The rope can damage the nerves in the tender area behind the ears of a young horse ,when tied off hard and fast. This damage can leave lasting effects. Web halters spread the force over a larger area, I have even put leather pad on the halter strap to get an even larger area. We do not tie our young ones off hard and fast , but use a slip devise that allows the rope to slid and give if the foul pulls back hard. I understand the use of rope halters in adult horses.

Very cute. Ok lesson number 1 Colts are males. Fillies are female young horses. You guys kept calling him her. He did extremely well getting his feet trimmed. He seemed a bit young to be weened. I would recommend a friend for him unless she is going to be with him constantly. They are a herd animal an need mates, a goat, or a dog. Just another animal. Especially at night as I see there isn't a stall. Night time can be frightening for a baby, which he is.

I'm not being mean or wanting to hate or argue... I think I read that you said her dad had experience with horses, so I just am honestly confused and wondered about the logic behind getting such a young horse. I'm curious to know why she wasn't getting an older horse that would help her learn, rather than a youngster that needs to be taught? Is he going to train it with her? Just to explain.... My parents bought me a filly when I was about her age and it turned out to be a bad choice. Lol it is 35 years and quite a few horses later... I have seen this scenario so many times now, and it never turns out well. Fear is hard thing to overcome, even with determination. Maybe I'm missing something?

Ok.. that trailering method kinda needs to stop, their going to end up hurting the horse if it continues and get the horse to hate trailers. There are other ways to trailer a horse, I kinda think they wanted it out as soon as possible because it didn’t want in. Please don’t take this as hate, but more of constructive criticism!

I don't mind using the butt rope but the trailor is pretty high. This is something I see alot online. We had a particular spot with the ground built up to back the trailor to. Also a hitching post in the open with a section of an old phone pole and hole drilled through. Add an old bike tire through those holes and keep a sturdy rope with strong snap for it. Only about 2 feet long. The resistance when pulling back gave them the feel they couldn't go anywhere and didn't flip all over.

The trailer was to high, if you had had ramps I believe the colt would have just walked right on in.

Stumbled in here and as the first I’ve seen of you I wonder if you always do things the fast way? Forcing that young horse up under all circumstances felt like only scaring him, you gave him no chance to learn to load. To me the slow way is the best way. The more they learn, the easier it gets.

I can not stress enough that buying a young kid her age an unbroken colt is so so dangerous, horses are extremely big animals. Only people with a lot of exprience or working with someone with lots of exprience should own an unbroken horse. Hopefully you guys are taking the right steps and she is taking lessons and working with a trainer.

You cant give a Young horse to someone who is green... The girl doesnt even know how to walk around horses... Also the horse doesnt know how to hold its feet(because no one ever taught it how) and you let this girl take it home... Also it look like its 6 months old and this girl cant do anything with this horse until its atleast 3 years old...So many things wrong here...

Great to see Emily getting the colt. If she sold the lamb she will sell the colt. You are doing right by not making money off the kids. They need the help starting out. Hope Emily starts this one sells it and goes right to another. Tell her I think she is a great kid and on the right track for her life.
