I love to do cross hatching on quilts. I don't have a guide beam on my machine, so I use the blocks as a guide whenever possible. I also use a ruler to do some light marking with a pencil at times. If I have a large area or a spot I don't want to mark, I use my long quilting pins and mark my quilting lines that way, placing the pins along the ruler to keep them straight from point to point. One just needs to slow down a bit to keep it accurate. Thanks for your tip on using a ruler.
The Millie's dresses are so lovely. Loved the derby hats as well. They totally made the outfits. Great job on the two bindings. The horse quilt is amazing.
Good afternoon Pat! I have used the cross hatch pattern on several quilts. I don't have the guide beam, so I use frog tape on the quilt top to use as my guide. I decide how far I want my lines and measure my next line from my previous stitch line. It doesn't leave marks and I can reuse the same piece quite a few times. I really like how the embroidered house turned out. I am thankful you have given me 'permission' to make mini quilts. Sometimes a project I am excited to work on gets less exciting after a block or two. Now I know what to do with them😁
What a great video today! I love the little cross stitch piece and how you quilted it! I love your Millie’s Dresses and the parade! Everyone’s looked so awesome. The horse quilt came out adorable. If I weren’t already overloaded with projects I would love to join the Piece and Quilt monthly. I will just have to vicariously enjoy everyone else’s work! Lol 😂
So nice to see your cheerfulness in the morning with my coffee. I loved the dress and bonnet matching quilt!! And you can just send over your Horse quilt to me 😂!!❤
Loved your Horse Quilt. Perfect with that red binding. And, the Millie’s Dresses is beautiful. I need to do that. Thank you for the great video. Your Piece and Quilt block is so pretty. Wonderful work. ❤. 😊
so cool that you suggested making the Peppermint Rose Quilt from the Celebrate With Quilts book as an alternative to the Piece and Quilt Sampler. That is exactly what I had planned to do, just because it is a bit smaller and I do my own quilting (no long arm) so it will be easier to handle. Love the whole book.
Way to go, Pat! Two bindings and a mini quilt completed. It must feel so good to have them done. Plus your horse quilt is finished just in time for Kentucky Derby Day. Your great niece will love it.
Love the horses! I also loved the quilting on your cross stitch. I have an embroidered wall hanging that is a Kathy Schmitz pattern and have been stumped as far as quilting it. I now know that quilting over the embroidery will be just fine. It just looks like texture. Now I feel like I can finally finish it. Yay!❤. Thank-you.
I am so excited!!!!! I went to a shop hop with 7 of my friends last Saturday. While shopping I bought the fabric to make Millie's dresses. Late to the party but, so excited to get started on this. My Grandma wore the dresses everyday. Oh the great memories.🥰💕😍
I just got off work and I'm having my coffee! I made a Millie's dress quilt block into a makeup bag for my new DIL's mom on the wedding day for a Mother of the bride gift. She loved it!
@@PatSloan I do but I don't always have a vision of how to put them together. I'm always so impressed with the job you do designing these darling quilts. She is going to absolutely love this quilt!
I won the pattern Millie's dresses from stitching with the housewives! I'm a newby but I might try it. Everyone's quilts look awesome! I struggle with mitered corners...my brain has a disconnect...lol. Pat when I got my sinus surgery, we passed by the Harbor gummy factory and I thought of you! Love your videos!❤
Loved all the Millie Dresses, I’m just waiting for for my batting. Pat your horse quilt is adorable as well as your QAL. Thanks for all you share. 👍❤️🙂
I would have really liked to see how you did the crosshatch quilting, like how you did the lines parallel to each other keeping them straight. It came out so cute! Love all your Millie's dresses and that pieced border.
For ease in quilting your parallel lines, look into the Babylock accessory Left Bar and Adapter. It attaches to the walking foot and makes parallel quilting so much easier after the first row. I use it for your wave stitch as well.
Hey Pat, a German here, I just wanted to confirm that your 'gummi' pronunciation is right on point, BUT -and that might be critical if you ever visit a german supermarket- you must add the bears! Because if you just ask for 'gummies'... you'll get condoms ;) So gummibears it is (or frogs, or cherries, or...). At least if you want to eat them lol. Greetings from Berlin!
It looks like you alternate your diagonal stitch lines. From upper left to lower right and then you must stitch from upper right to lower left? I didn’t know that! I always do all of one direction and then do all of the other direction…. Never even thought of that.
That depends. Sometimes I might use a light from the line. You can see the digital mock up at my project page at my Quilt Along Website. Did you go there? the link is in the description box under the video and at the pinned post. Did you try clicking it?

The red binding on the horse quilt is fabulous !

Love the derby hat pattern idea on Millie’s Dresses- quilters are sure the best! Thank you Pat for sharing your talents. ❤️
Your cross stitch project turned out beautifully! I am really loving what you did with it and that border! Adorable!

Loved the inclusion of matching hats. Sooo cute

You’ll love the skinny wonder clips ! They hold so well
My walking foot has a walking foot attachment with a bar that can be adjusted to space between lines that you like.
Millie dress parade was marvelous

Hi Pat, the horse quilt is awesome. Your dresses are very pretty. You do such awesome quilts. Thanks for sharing
These dresses are so so cute! I love your color choices.
Re Cross hatching. I use painters tape as my guide, even on big cross stitches and big quilts. It comes in various widths from 1/4" right up to 2".
yes it is a great tool. I have done that too, just wanted to show another options for people
I was kinda skeptical of how that horse quilt was going to turn out. It's adorable. Such an excellent job designing it.
thanks! I'm curious why you were skeptical? Do you just not use novelty fabric yourself?
@@PatSloan I do but I don't always have a vision of how to put them together. I'm always so impressed with the job you do designing these darling quilts. She is going to absolutely love this quilt!
thank you! I love working with novelty prints
Wow, that first block is beautiful. I was not expecting it to finish like that.
Crossstich is so nostalgic ❤ Betty
With the silhouettes🎉
Just love all the Millie's Dress Quilts. They are all so beautiful. The hats are great too. So glad to see you today.
The derby hat and dresses should be titled the I visible woman! lol very cute
I love doing crosshatching but I mark. Love the little house. ❤

Love the drawing room quilt and fabrics !!! Stunning !
Good morning! I started my Piece and Quilt sampler yesterday and can’t wait for the first row to be complete. 🌻
Beautiful quilts
So excited to start the piece and quilt sampler! The derby hat is adorable 😍
Beautiful Millie's dresses parade!!! Congrats !!! 👋🏻👋🏻👋🏻
The horse quilt is so gorgeous!

The framing is perfect, the colors are perfect. Beautiful!

First time watching live

Yes that is a great tool! I wanted to demo something everyone has for any machine
I like your color mix of Millies dresses!
Love your cross stitch wall hanging. I finished crossticthi g mine too. Haven't figured out which way I'm going with it. Maybe pillow or wall hanging
I like the layout of the dresses.

That is hilarious
Thanks Pat!
Pat, I use Tiger Taoe to quilt diaganol lines on tiny quilts.
Bring on the fashion show!
Does the bird fabric glow in the dark? So pretty
Hi Pat - What stitch length did/do you use when doing the cross hatch stitching on your cross stitch project? It can out beautifully 🎉
@Connie Hobbs how wonderful!
I use painters tape to follow for grids.
It looks like you alternate your diagonal stitch lines. From upper left to lower right and then you must stitch from upper right to lower left? I didn’t know that!
I always do all of one direction and then do all of the other direction….
Never even thought of that.
Are you using the same background fabric for each block on the sampler quilt? Love your channel.
That depends. Sometimes I might use a light from the line. You can see the digital mock up at my project page at my Quilt Along Website. Did you go there? the link is in the description box under the video and at the pinned post. Did you try clicking it?
I don’t mark lines when I crosshatch. I use painters tape.
❤ ❤ ❤
Thanks! You need more than just Starbucks, lol. Enjoy
thank you so much!!! Hugs!!!
Do you have your tulip banner on your door??
no, it's not quilted yet
What is the spacing between the lines? Thank you
I do not know the size. I just used the edge of the walking foot.
9:45 is your grid 1" or more?
Do you mean the grid that I quilted? I do not know the size. I just used the edge of the walking foot.
Yes, on my phone it was to tell. Thanks Pat for all you do!
