e qui viene il bello. Tutti i noise gate che ho utilizzato tendevano a comprimere il suono imbolsendolo, e ad eliminare parecchie frequenze. Lascio dunque la parola a Pierangelo, che spero scenda come al solito dal cielo per rivelarci la retta via e dirci che cosa si e' inventato stavolta David per ovviare al problema.

For what I learned today ..I think of David Gilmour as the Einstein of music. God damn not only I admire his guitar sound, but if Syd Barrett and Guilmour co-existed through the whole Pink Floyd era we would be talking about of another version of a genius rock band such as The Beatles, not that they're not, but in a much mayor scale of what Pink Floyd has done. To bad Barrett had to stay due to his illness :( ..God bless Mr Gilmour!!

You have to try and decide with your ear which combination sounds better, but we think that you're on the right way. Try the MXR 90 before your distortion and overdrive pedals ;) Reverb is not necessary for gilmour but in any case must always put at the end of chain. Delay before it and chorus probably before delay, but try all combinations before delay and reverb ;)
I'm not sure that we are talking about the same machine, but we will inform better, thanks. It would be nice to visit the museum. :)

Very well done! Thanks so much, this really helps me a lot. I have a few questions MusicOffCommunity though because I'm just now starting to build my pedal board. If I wanted to get tones similar to Gilmour(pedal board wise), would I place my Sunface BC-108 first, Vox wah second, Cornish P-2 third, Boss CS-3 fourth, Colorsound Powerboost fifth, BK Butler TD sixth, MXR Phase 90 seventh? I also have a chorus, delay, and reverberator pedal... where would these go in the chain?? Thanks so much!

Les paul is the inventor of the "recording looper" (the real time overdub) that is not the "true bypass looper" in a pedalboard, that works to preserve the integrity of guitar original sound when you have many pedals. Two very different things. ;-)

Hi, it's an awesome video and I learned a lot, but I didn't quite understand what is the scale used in the settings part. For instance, if the tone is "ore 13.00", it's 13 out of what? I mean, what is the highest number of this scale? Thank you very much!
In Italy "ore 13" means 1 pm on the clock ;)

Could somebody explain the settings to me?
For example, in the song "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" it lists the various effects settings for "Syd Theme e arpeggio" (see the 10:57 mark in the video):
Compressor Boss CS-2
Level ore 14.30, Attack Ore 11, Sustain ore 11.30
Boss CE-2,
Rate ore 11; Depth ore 14
I assume these are the positions for the various knobs on the CS-2 and CE-2, but usually the knob position settings are listed on a scale of 1 to 10 or they will tell you to set the attack knob to say 12:00 (for 12 o'clock) and the sustain knob to 3:00 (for 3' o'clock.)
I have no idea what "14.30" means or "11.30" unless 14.30 corresponds to 2:30 and 11.30 corresponds to 11:30. (Perhaps, they chose 14.30 instead of 2.30 because the setting is actually after 12:00.)
If this is the case, it would have made more sense if they would have used a colon between 14 and 30 (14:30) instead of a period (14.30) since a colon denotes time and a clock setting.
Could somebody explain this to me?
MrCamelneck it's actually more practical to use 24 hour time or "military time" to note settings. That way you can't get confused about 2 vs 2 o'clock. Also, the Italian word ore shares the same Latin root as the the English word hour ;)

Hai ragione! Ma portando due 4x12, due testate, rack, pedaliere varie, chitarre (elettriche e acustiche) non mi entrava proprio nella station wagon. Tra il portare la Telecaster e la mia ragazza ho preferito la seconda.... ;-)

@TheLightSideofMusic usa un noise suppressor, prova a schermare il vano dell'elettronica, oppure passa ad un bel DG20 della EMG che ti porterà ad un livello celestiale
Domanda Banalissima ma avendo 15 anni e nessuno intorno che si intenda di chitarre...: ho una stratocaster che monta dei texas special (innanzitutto ti risulta che siano quelli che usa mark knopfler?) e mi basta attaccare un big muff (quelli attualmente in produzione vanno bene per il sound di gilmour?) che subito si sente un forte e fastidiosissimo ronzio...puoi darmi qualche consiglio per eliminarlo?

All respects to Mr. Gilmour, but have to make this correction to an invention wrongly attributed to David in this class: the ACTUAL inventor of the true bypass looper was not Gilmour, but was none other than Mr. Les Paul.

Wish I knew what he was saying is he speaking porta? Does not sound like spanish I can speak a little spanish but this guy has the rythmic delay down good. Dotted 8th note delay. I use two delays in series a slapback analog first that goes into a digital delay set for longer delay.

Ciao Gianni, anni fa la produceva Callaham Guitars (in diverse misure), prova a controllare sul suo sito web. I prezzi erano molto al di sotto di quella cifra. Occhio alla compatibilità della filettatura. ;)

Not true, I am a Principal Electronics engineer by trade over 30 year career & Les Paul's loopers WERE true bypass, and predate Gilmores efforts by decades. You need to head to the new Les Paul museum when it opens and learn about everything he did!

Avere gli stessi effetti ma utilizzare testata e casse differenti è cosa non da poco, il suono quindi è duro e legnoso. Poi non avere un binson in una clinic così...mah!
Morale della favola con un 5000 Euro si puo' suonare come Gilmour, averli!!!!

+Klaus Gunnarsson Perdonaci Klaus, prima di tutto questo è un evento a se stante durato una giornata, non un corso in una scuola, quindi non si capisce quale sia il "problema". Seconda cosa, se uno vuole dimostrare una cosa per bene ed ha a disposizione il meglio... si porta dietro il meglio! Poi, per avvicinarsi a certi suoni si può; agire in tanti modi, sul nostro forum c'è un topic aperto da tempo per fare la stessa cosa senza svenarsi. Last but not least, di giovani che si esprimono in maniera originale ce ne sono tanti in Italia (e al mondo), purtroppo manca spesso il pubblico che li ascolti più che qualcuno che gli insegni. ;)
E' come se dicessi ai futuri poeti di non leggere Dante Alighieri.
Avere uno spunto da dove prendere ispirazione non è male.
Si puo' leggere Dante anche comprando edizioni economiche non necessariamente comprando tomi costosissimi.
Ma io credo più che altro che questa serie di video, debba essere interpretata come spunto e informazione qualora uno voglia avere una delucidazione su cosa usa/usava un colosso come lo zio David. Non a caso alla fine c'era tutta una didascalia del periodo unito all'attrezzatura e quindi all'evoluzione del suono di questo artista. Io personalmente ho trovato questi video utilissimi per aiutarmi ad ottenere un'idea che si possa avvicinare a Gilmour come concetto, per poi utilizzarla in altri modi. Di certo non è detto che se vuoi un Vibe devi avere lo Shin Ei, se vuoi il Big Muff devi prendere per forza il Ram's Head, ce ne sono altri che suonano benissimo e non costano uno sproposito. Questo ''seminario'' è stato fatto per illustrare la sua strumentazione, non mi sembra sia un incitamento a spendere i quadrilioni per questi strumenti.
