Bro, you literally anticipated every question I had and then answered each one so clearly even I could understand, with my severely limited mechanical knowledge. Thank you very much for making this absolute gem of a video!
This was one of the MOST informative and explanatory videos I have seen. The 3D cut aways and examples were EXCELLENT. I had so many questions related to the general oil and coolant flow system in the enginer and how stuff like this could happen and this video took me from knowing nothing to learning a lot more than I thought would be possible from a youtube video. Thanks for the effort! This video deserves WAYYYYY more likes
The video does a great job of explaining the various ways that a head gasket can fail and cause problems. In this day and age of automotive technology it may be more appropriate to say that a head gasket is "damaged" rather than blown due to the fact that many cars are being driven with damaged gaskets with chronic symptoms whereas a car with a "blown" gasket will generally have acute symptoms which severely prevent the use of the vehicle. Keep rolling....
Very good point Junkyarddawg - as you mentioned, technology advances have made the "failures" not as drastic as they perhaps once were, often times leading to people driving much longer than they really should. Good insight
Im a bit of a dummy when it comes to automotive. I found this as yesterday a guy was in a parking lot with his hood up next to the gas station i was stopping at. Thick blue smoke pumping out the tail pipe, and some out under the hood. When he was finally pulling away, he was crawling while blue smoke poured out. An old man told me he had a blown head gasket. Thank you for making a simple, easy to understand, video that allows me to understand all that. I like trying to be more of a handyman, and youtubers like you can at least give me the ability to understand. Thank you!
Wow you explained that perfectly All the right details, at the right time in a comprehensive way There are so many crappy videos on YT--- where things are either too simplified lacking detail, or too much detail
Blew two head gaskets on my S-10 as a kid. Both times, after a coolant drain/change. Back in the day it was yellow and didn't last 100k miles. Remember to let the coolant circulate before driving and watch the temp gauge like a hawk if you change it. 1st time I didn't put 2 and 2 together, sure did after the second.
Thanks for the video man You have outlined so much information that was necessary for me to know to fix my car. Love the edits, music and info. Keep doing that good stuff man.
My old 1990 Celica is beat up with all bald tires and all the warning lights on. When I drive it's sluggish with white smoke coming out the exhaust. Engine is always hot on the temperature gage indicator.
An awesome video! 👌 Btw I thought that only wbite smoke imdicates the blown gasket whereas the blue one means a broken piston ring but I seem to have been wrong?
Blew a head gasket on a 1984 Mercury Capri 4cyl which was a mustang knock off. Happened a few days after I shifted from 5th to 1st by accident going down a hill beating a yellow light in Poughkeepsie. Totally missed 3rd gear.
Could be nice to get back even more to the basics. Why should there be two parts for the engine? block and head. Why not just make one block? And why does there have to be a 3rd gasket between them, why not seal them somehow without it. Thanks. EDIT: Oh never mind, you answered it, ur da best dude!

Happy to hear it And! We hope more people can find these videos helpful, appreciate you giving it a watch.

You spelled “what is a Subaru” wrong in the title
Poor subie owners - as if the shots in the video weren't harsh enough 😁

You had me at Gardenias… brilliant explanation of head gaskets in layman’s terms- clear, concise and with humor. 👍👍
Fantastic video! Very very well executed and you left no question unanswered. Thank you
This is one of the most detailed and informative videos I’ve seen on cars. I really appreciate this🔥
💙
Great explanation. Very understandable. Thank you!
Happy to help rtong12!
Here is my boy. Driving on the highway, pop the hood, found out coolant level low, OPEN THE RADIATOR CAP and top off with water.
Thanks for the video man
You have outlined so much information that was necessary for me to know to fix my car. Love the edits, music and info. Keep doing that good stuff man.
Thanks for watching!
That was an awesome video and explanation. Thank you!
😎💙
Guys, the gunny short in between points breaks my concentration and I forget what I’ve just learned.
Wonderful and so informative!, Great work!!
Thank you for sharing
Thank you for this information 🙏
Thank you for this video!
Great video🎉

Glad you foudn it informative Jorge fierro!
Great video.
Good job!

Subaru owner checking in. Very sad time right now
Excellent explanation.
Thank you for watching!

hellow sir does a bad head gasket ha something to do with excessive oil leak from the engine breather that causes turbo to oil leakd?...thank you^^
For oil and coolant maybe making their respective circuits separate between top and bottom and alleviate the problem a bit.
Appreciate the explanation
Our pleasure youngakh!
Batter to have head gasket replaced, or replace engine?
Replace the headgasket as long as no internal damage has happened. MUCH MUCH cheaper and usually easier!
Ok thank you

Wow so technically you achieved Episode 1 and 2 of this series! Now the question is have you smoked a clutch? Thats next weeks topic 😂
@@fcpeuro never smoked a clutch. I’m an adult now and my BMW’s and Mercedes have not suffered the abuse and fate of my teen years’ vehicles.
Good teacher
Blew my headgasket. It was kinda cool, because I just scrapped the car and as a result had to quit the job I was working which I hated!
Here is to things looking up!
How about exhaust gas in the colant?
No good!
@@fcpeuro what may be the major causes?
Could be nice to get back even more to the basics.
Why should there be two parts for the engine? block and head. Why not just make one block?
And why does there have to be a 3rd gasket between them, why not seal them somehow without it.

Thanks for this, great explanation for a moron like me
owned a Subaru and beat the crap out of it never blown a head gasket. Maintenance is key.
So in theory a bad timing chain can cause wrong detonation, possibly blowing a head gasket?
Honda Accord 1.5T's are now replacing Subaru for top head gasket failures .

What's a dipstick? Asking on behalf of all BMW drivers
But isn't oil supposed to be in the cylinders?
Wrong copper head gasket are the best. The only issue fot the producers was the cost.
There are still some spray on copper options, like you mentioned cost associated with anything copper always seems to be the death of it!
@@fcpeuro i didn't meant spray i was meaning solid copper plate cut on cnc and annealed after. I did it for myself is perfect
People here for accord 1.5T?
Hi
Pay me Now or Pay Me Later. Don't keep ridin' with a Coolant Leak.
New track GMAN S!?
Music is annoying.
Sorry Will - we'll look at adjusting in future episodes!
Blown headgasket, what makes a Subaru, a Subaru
Its in the DNA
Try to make a copper head gasket and will never but never fail again.
Dude an 11 mins video for a 15 second answer is frickin wild
No one wants to hear that much talking explain what it is and shush…. Geez smh
