- Procedure to remove and clean the DVD GPS map navigation drive. Fails to load the disc complete because the insert rollers are dirty or not gripping.
See detailed steps to remove and clean the using so DVD will start reading again. Once DVD can be read, the unit will proceed with starting up and working.
Also, when you have DVD drive open look at the row of gears on the left. The black gear closest to the rear sometimes breaks. Push down the rollers and spin the motor to see if any teeth are missing. If they are missing, you will need to replace the while DVD drive. See below.

Hi Joe, I just wanted to say THANKS!! I had this map DVD problem and followed your procedure to pull the unit out, disassemble, and clean, and I was very skeptical that it would resolve the issue. (Not because of your instructions, but because I thought the problem may have been a bad laser. Mine would go in and eject fine, but would not read.) I was ecstactic when I got it connected and it worked right off the bat! This was absolutely huge because otherwise the audio and the rear camera are disabled, and now everything is functional. Thanks for your wonderful guide!!

Yes this is the same procedure for the 2011 Toyota Prius with JBL GPS navigation unit. This unit will not operate if the DVD map drive is not working. Sometimes it’s dirty rollers, but sometimes it’s a broken black gear on the side. When you open it to clean the rollers. Check the black gear closet at to the rear of the unit. Try rotating it and look for missing teeth. If you have missing teeth, then you will need to purchase a new DVD drive. See website to order:
When cleaning the roller, if you press it down slightly, it will disengage from the gear drive and free roll. You can turn it easily to clean all sides of the roller.
Hi I have a 2012 Toyota kluger grande showing the same problem after replacing the battery. Does this procedure work on my stereo.? The number on the screen is 18037 and model number on the head unit is ft0002a. Thanks

Hi, I did all those steps and cleaned with 75% alcohol and put back together then tried it and it still won’t work! It’s making the same clicking noise , cd gets ejected after 10-16 seconds and then it go’s back in and then kicks out . Do you also have a Facebook page ?
