Thank you all for your interest and engagement. Due to the current WGA/SAG strikes, and out of respect for those striking, I have halted talking about forthcoming screen adaptations of books until resolutions have been reached.
I really want those scenes where Penelope is reading the journals while Colin is eagerly waiting for her opinion. It was so cute and that is when his guard went down around her and where his jealousy stopped.
Absolutely! And reinforces her accomplishments as well so I think we have a good chance of getting this-provided that keep that plot line for him in tact
Great insight...I think the mirror scene will come after they are engaged or married when Pen is feeling self conscious about herself because everyone in the Ton will be wondering why Colin chose her. He will want to show her how beautiful she is and how he sees her. 😍
The best part of that scene is not just how he sees her as beautiful but the non stop consent you don’t see in the other books. They both asked each other what they liked. Colin was so freaking gentle, I was waving my imaginary fan so many times. I liked seeing him inform her that penetration may hurt her since it was her first time and making sure she understood that he would never hurt her intentionally, at least in sex. I don’t always see this interaction with couples in books or tv and appreciated that and hope they keep that in the show.
Last comment I promise! Haha. I also believe that the body diversity this season will be immensely powerful, and it is not something I am able to talk about as freely, except in spaces such as these. I think it will be exceptionally incredible to see a "curvier" herione be the object of the "classsically handsome" hero's desires that isn't done in a comedic way, or has to be explained in some capacity, specifically made for a mass audience (the established viewers). It is the first time I can recollect something like this, and I think it could be monumental. Yet everytime I try to bring this point up, it is usually to people whose reply is "Yeah but it's still basically porn" and in those moments I know that they are not my type of people.
I'm so glad you made this. I could listen to you talk about series 3 for hours! I'm really looking forward to the first trailer footage, it's hard not to get too excited about it as Polin just speaks to me as a couple. Haha!
Great video! About the drawing room scene: i could see it happening with Prudence (instead of Felicity), especially because of what happened at the end of s2 (particularly the urgency of the inheritence scheme and the lack of funds overall - Portia clearly does not regart Pen as an option, but she might try to push Pru in Colin's direction. That is of course, if Pru does not get married before the scene). They could make it entertaining, especially if, instead of the watercolours, Pru would try to sing for Colin (who we all know has a musical ear and will not be able to stand it - just like in s1) I love that you are also set on the Smythe-Smith musical (i love that scene as well and i was so excited to see the family mentioned in QC). I really want to see the friendship between Pen and Lady Danbury, and i think that scene is just lovely in this regard.
I truly love hearing your thoughts because you do come at from a literary perspective. I spend most of my time (in relation to Bridgerton) trying to convince people to read the book series. It has helped me appreciate the show even more because it truly is a fascinating look into translating books onto the screen. Once Bridgerton was released I was shocked I had never heard of the book series before, especially since I help manage an Indie bookstore. How had I never come across it? All of my favorite things combined in the series, and I was delighted to see Regency themed stories finally get the Steamy remake I am sure we all imagine in our minds, but have never seen done on screen before (billed to a large audience). I immediately deep dove into the books. Out of all of them, "Romancing Mr. Bridgerton" is the one that I kept returning to, for reasons inexplicable to me at the time. I am truly excited for their season on the show because I am interested in seeing just how much they change from the book. Season 2 was amazing, but it deviated strongly from the book and while it was successful and I don't deny the following Kanthony has received, I was left feeling like I wanted more of a true adaptation. The scene where Anthony finds Kate terrified of the storm in the library was my favorite scene in the book and I was devastated when it didn't materialize the way it did in the book. I think that background of her fear of storms would have added that many more layers to Kate's character. It allowed her to be truly vulnerable with Anthony much earlier in the story. That being said, I actually think a rewrite at least for some of the scenes would do wonders for Colin and Penelope's story. I think I kept returning to their story because it felt like something was missing. It was wonderful in what it was, but the show actually offers a chance to expand on some things and perhaps give us more time for Colin and Penelope to truly become best friends and meet each other as equals, then lovers. I have high expectations in many ways, and yet I am fiercefully keeping my mind open because if done right, this could be Bridgerton's best season yet.
Agree with all of these thoughts! The storm scene under the desk was one of the things I missed from Kate and Anthony in Season 2 as well. I’m hopeful they can translate some of it to the newlywed storyline while not sacrificing any of Colin/Penelope or setting up future romances.
I loved this rant, I’ve never read the book because I wanted to watch before reading it and I’m so happy and excited about this season I really relate to Penelope so much in terms of family stuff and this season is gonna be a winner
Based on the lead up so far (and the fact they have such stellar actors playing the Featheringtons) I have hopes that the family stuff in season 3 will be even more satisfying than the book.
i think, because the featheringtons are struggling financially, that the challenge lady Danbury is throwing at everyone in the book is very important. Portia would obviously want the money and I think this will cause a lot more stress for Penelope with lady Whisteldown
I know everyone wants a love interest for Penelope so Colin can pine for her which I get. If this is longer than eight episodes, I agree. I also worry if they push for the love interest to the end of the show, I don’t want Polin’s story to be an affair or just hurting a good person if that love interest is a nice person. I feel there was a lot of pining from him just as she stopped talking to him and for the book, that was all the drama we need.
You could pull off cream! Try to buy some cream blouses and pair them with neutral skirts (whatever shape you fancy). High waist skirts with a puffy sleeve cream blouse would give you the same effect as Regency Empire waistlines. For an interpretation of Penelope's blue-ish gown shown in the first photo, you could pair a very light cream/off white blouse with a light blue a-line or pencil skirt (maxi could work too), preferably in a satin type of material, or something with a sheer overlay or silver inlays (like it would shimmer silver in certain lighting). Pair with cream or neutral shoes and voila you have a modern reinterpretation. Next time you go thrifting just keep your eye out for thise types of colors and materials you will be amazed at the combinations you can make.
Looks like season 3 TV Penelope is going to be an amalgam of Book Pen and a little sis Felicity--hence the extra suitors and glow-up from wallflower to it-girl plot. The professional contention between Book Colin and Pen will likely be transferred to TV Pen and Eloise, set up by their fallout over Whistledown at the end of season 2. I anticipate Portia Featherington pushing Prudence on Colin in lieu of Pen.
I think the Queen will play a huge role in getting Colin and Penelope together. It’s quite clear that Pen will be chosen as the Diamond of the Season if anything else, so the Queen will probably get close to the Featheringtons. I don’t think she’ll figure out Pen being Lady Whistledown but I can see a good friendship between the two. And with that, Penelope might grow and like the Queen and she’ll stop writing about her in Whistledown. And she might confide in her about her crush on Colin and that will make the Queen want to play matchmaker for Pen and Colin. I wouldn’t even be surprised if she defends them from anyone who disproves of the match, particularly Eloise.
I don't think Pen is going to be the diamond because : 1) it seems the diamond is chosen among the debutantes 2) at the begging of her season she would still lack the confidence necessary to attract the Queen's eye in that way
Are we doing a group re-read of RMB? It kind of sounded like it, but I may have misunderstood. I absolutely love your thoughts on the new pictures! The market scene made me a bit sad though. In S1 and S2, Eloise and Pen went to the marketplace together. Now, Eloise is literally being replaced by Colin. I know it's necessary for the romance, but I adored the friendship between Pen and Eloise. I agree with you on most things except that musicale. The cringe scenes just make me uncomfortable. I don't even like reading that part in the book. I'm a bit worried that S3 is going to be character overload. They announced 4 major new original characters. Introducing a new Francesca and 3 new sibling love interests in addition to the other new characters just seems like a lot. As always, I love to hear your thoughts! Thank you so much for sharing them.
I don’t have anything firmly planned on RMB yet other than will surely reread and discuss in some context closer to release. Hadn’t considered a group re-read but that’s definitely something we can gauge interest in! I definitely am a little worried about the narrative balance of the season with all the characters teased but am remaining tentatively optimistic! (I am probably biased on the Smythe-Smiths too because I know that they there are HEAs on the horizon there too. I also understand the secondhand embarrassment struggle.) Thanks for being here!
I would love to hear you speak about what you expect for the side characters in this season. To me it's all I think about yet barely give any thought to polin since I hated their book and they kinda need to work hard to win me over. But I would love to hear your thoughts on what you expect when it comes to that build up we need with the other characters like Eloise, Benedict and Francesca. I really think they will marry Frannie off and we will meet John (and possibly Michael, though if that happens I will scream and die for a moment), what do you think about who could be Eloise's unexpected friend and what would you like to see if we see a glimpse of Sophie in season 3 as well. All in all I love listening you rant about the show and these are some details I would love to hear your thoughts on
Great idea; thank you! I definitely have been pondering the unexpected friend but anticipate it being embarrassingly obvious in retrospect though I can’t pin it at this moment. I definitely think developing especially Benedict and Francesca’s stories, and even Eloise if we start to see a pen pal, will happen based on now seeing how they were setting up Season 3, and because it would be missed opportunity otherwise. I’ll keep pondering.

Penelope is my favorite heroine of the series and I love the representation with Nicola.

It’s such a difficult balance!
