I chose to get the hardcover book because I wanted the reversible cover. I know I made the right choice because my book arrived on Queen Charlotte's birthday. So I felt even more connected.
I was going to try and read the book since the NF show left me unimpressed. Glad I waited since it's not worth 20 bucks. I wanted to see if we got more of their intimate thoughts about what was happening around them but since that's not happening... I'll wait for it to end up at Goodwill. And maybe even then... Thanks for the review.
Always worth a library circulation for perusal once demand dies down if that’s an option. I think there is an attempt to show more intimate thoughts; I just personally wish it had gone further as discussed. Thanks for watching!
I liked your prospective. I listened to the audible book and I liked it, though I do understand your critique of certain points. The end still got me😢 As far as Julia Quinn not writing about POC, I understood what she was trying to say, I mean the Bridgerton books are over 20 years old. We were not thinking about those things at that time and I don't know if she would have been able to do it justice IMO no shade to Julia.
@@bookishmelody it was one narrator (Natalie Simpson). But I thought she did a good job giving each character a distinct voice, though its possible i could be taking that feeling from the show to the book since I listened to the book right after I finished the show. But overall I liked the book and the show 😊
You say this is tied to the (white) Bridgerton novels because of the Smythe-Smiths, but the Smythe-Smiths are established as being one of the new titled black families in "Queen Charlotte." Shonda Rhimes is credited as sole author of the five of the six scripts. One script was written by Nicholas Nardini. (This was the George's side episode.) These are the only writing credits given on the show. After Lady Danbury insisted on her title, I wouldn't dream of calling her anything else, although I call Queen Charlotte "Charlotte" (at least young Charlotte), and Lady Bridgerton "Violet."
In regards to the Smythe-Smiths I meant that (outside of Lady Danbury) they are the only characters I caught in Queen Charlotte that exist in the Bridgerton universe explicitly (though I am sure there are cameos I missed), not in relation to race as they are established in Queen Charlotte. Thank you for the updates on the writing credits!
Crimson Peak was not very scary. Unfortunately, it was also not very good. I used to read a lot of movie novelizations: Indiana Jones, Krull, Gremlins.
I have learned I am very susceptible to mood music 😂 Maybe I’ll give it a try at some point since I do love a gothic. That does sound like a golden age of novelizations! Maybe it’s been just the pipeline trending so much the other way recently.

That’s wonderful! And I really do love the reversible cover; I wish it made sense logistically for more tie-ins.

Thanks for your thoughts! I bet it was great on audio! Though, I am interested, how was hearing voice actors interpret show dialogue?

@@bookishmelody You're welcome. Still fighting to get that panel link to end at the point I selected.
I loved the show I’ve decided not to read the book Im happy with the show on its own!
I think the show stands absolutely fine on its own!
@@bookishmelody I agree!

@@bookishmelody I didn't read the Crimson Peak book. Just saw the movie. Was disappointed.
