I think it’s a pretty fair review. I absolutely love mine and I am glad I have the wagon which has even more space. I agree that the comfort mode is waaaay too soft. The Happy medium is sport mode suspension and steering and standard on transmission which can be done via the screen as a custom setting in the DCC menu. She can be slow off the line in daily driving but a quick tap into sport mode or even manual mode you can take on some serious sports cars and people are genuinely shocked when you give it some…. It is such a sleeper car. I would love to see you test a modded superb, with stage 1 tune and eibach springs this thing is a beast with mods!
Some of these reviewers I tell you haha. The Octavia’s interior looks okayish. This looks just pure classy. In fact get the 8 inch touchscreen with physical volume knob- perfection.
I bought a 2016 Superb Estate 280bhp 4x4 in L&K trim at 2.5 years old for half the retail price when new in the UK. I then added a Revo remap to boost the power & torque to 360bhp (268kW) & 480Nm. My L&K trim model came with ACC (Adaptive Chassis Control) which can be set to Sport mode & stiffens the suspension up considerably. I've also added a Racechip XLR Throttle box to sharpen up the throttle response. Set the DSG gearbox to Sport mode & it can be a bit of a hooligan. It's a hugely practical 4 sec 0-60mph wagon that can embarrass much more expensive machinery whilst looking like a regular Dad's car. Best Q car I've owned to date.
I really don’t know what car you were driving. I’ve got the 2017 Sportline wagon & it’s a serious weapon! AWD, 206kw & it’s a wolf in sheeps clothing. I’ve left Golf GTI’s & the like in its wake. Not that I advocate hooning.🤭 The Octavia, at least in wagon form didn’t/doesn’t compare. But you’re not comparing apples with apples. The adaptive dampers really tighten the ride up, or for leisure set the softer setting, which makes it float. The active dampers make a huge difference in sport & really firm the ride up, as does utilising the sports mode. They are a very underrated brand which I am happy to live with.
I had a similar experience to you, except I test drove a brand new 2018 Sportline 206 sedan back in 2018 (which I admit I did not end up buying for several reasons I shall not disclose). I think Skoda might have softened the Superb in it's current form so as to not dilute Octavia RS sales. I thought the handling was for lack of a better word, superb for a sedan of it's size and mass. It handled like a Golf R, and it instilled confidence that you could drive it hard and it would simply shrug it off and perform as expected. Where it lost points was a lack of refinement in the DSG around town.
My target was the Octavia RS wagon and swayed to the Superb wagon, and so pleased with the space that the smaller model is compromised. Get in the groove and it more than keeps the pace.
The Skoda Superb is really really, well - real; I drove the Scout with the same trim when it was available. It was very similar to the Ford Fairmont Ghia I owned at the time, except quieter, smoother and quicker: I bought a Kodiak with the lot, which had similar trimmings but missed out on the power & the quiet cabin.
Overall a good review. However why base the handling around the softest suspension setting? It’s like saying the aircon doesn’t work great but you’ve set it to 28? In the 40,000 kms I’ve done in my 206 Sportline, no more than 10km would have been done in Comfort mode - it’s way too soft. Most of the time I drive with DCC set to Sport, the firmest setting. For most people that’s way too firm and Normal is about right. Agree with the pedal lag, but just get a throttle controller for a couple of hundred bucks like I have…it sharpens it up beautifully. Yes a V6 would be great, but mid 5 sec 0-100 is more than enough 👍🏼
At 4:07 of the video is reported that car has impressive 22 cubic feet or 625 liters of trunk or boot space. Superb seems like the better choice for family activites but still a daily, whereas octavia the daily but better for fun sport times when no one is in the back
yeah...'value' and '$69k' isnt something I put together for a family sedan. Starting to make EVs look really viable! Prices just keep creeping...and reviews normalising it dont help!
@@SuperMattb17 That’s a very odd comment. It’s our job to award cars that provide buyers with access to quality engineering, good dynamics, intelligent tech and smart packaging at a price that’s competitive *for their segment*. That’s precisely what we’ve done here: provided buyers or people interested in this segment with a relative value buy. If that isn’t you, that’s fine - but you don’t get to lob nasty remarks from the sidelines because we’ve made a valid judgment specific to a segment or vehicle that doesn’t appeal to you.
Putting "line" in he name makes it seem like it's just a trim level with spoilers and bucket seats. But this one has 276bhp and 4x4, so they should have given it a proper name that shows it as a performance model.
Is a Superb Wagon RS version in the pipeline for Aust? I like the sustainability and decarbonisation principle of Skoda. As a car enthusiast I would love a meatier performance wagon version with aggressive looks. High on my list if there is one coming.
Comparing a wagon vs wagon of Superb and Passat, the difference is hardly 2500, I guess. Definitely compating a sedan vs wagon will obviously be higher. Bins on the door pocket are there in Skoda's for ages, did you mean it's a new addition on the Superb?
If it rode, drove and shifted like an Octavia it would be just a another Octavia. It’s supposed to have a point of difference and is marketed to a different clientele and should be reviewed as such. No one cares if you prefer the Octavia because everybody is different with different tastes and needs. Personally I would prefer a softer ride with a luxury feel over sporty ride but that’s just my preference. You would be better served reviewing it against similar vehicles marketed for the same type of buyers and leave personal bias out of it.
