You are a blessing to UA-cam Mato!
Thank you
true
I couldn't believe when he said, "...and Tal resigned."
shirshakbt maybe he should have said tal sacrificed the match.
Amen!
And they share the same name, mikhail. Two of my favorite players playing against each other. :)
I'm a begginer in this game and for the very firs time since I watch your videos I found all the critical moves :D it feels so good
Tal's one of my favorite chess players and he was a real class act.
Hate seeing Tal lose :(
He was sick
I waited till the last move expecting Tal to do some magic and come back into the game😢
+Nab Z it feels weird watching him lose. The difference I felt between Botvinnik and Tal is that I fell in love with Tal's moves from his frist game. Didn't feel that way with Botvinnik at all...
Hi Mato: I have begun to enjoy chess because of the quality of your analysis. Thank You !!!
51 years old Botvinnik.. Great performance.. This is how to best Tals attacking style.. Poor health is no excuse. Botvinnik must have done his homework well. After this game Tal has never recovered and played for the title..
True
Mr. Jelic, thanks for all your videos. very instructive.
Very nice annotations Mato. I once read a book that botvinnik says. TAL has no positional understanding, he only wants room for his pieces, if TAL learnes to program himself properly then it would be impossible to play against him. Botvinnik was right here.
+Matojelic best commentary ever
Very eloquent and entertaining.
Even in defeat we can sense Tal's class by ,as Mr.Mato stated, not blaming anything nor anyone . Instead, his humility made him even greater as a revered world chess champion many times and a real gentleman from Riga,Latvia !
Mato this Tal was a really strange and wonderfull man and great human caracter. i apreciete him a lot
Even Jordan missed a free throw and game winning shot once in a while. Tal is by far the most ingenious attacking chess player of all time. On a side note... Could you please go over the game between Hikaru Nakamura vs Boris Savchenko from this years Dubai Rapid & Blitz tournament ?! Round 3. From move 2 on this game was fascinating. The ending was unreal.
so awkward to see one of the most aggressive players losing ... feels unnatural. Keep up the good work Mato, hope you make more videos with Tal's games
Let's not forget that Botvinnik was already 50 at that time and had been an absolute top player since the time Tal was born. He is the only world champion to regain the title twice, against Smyslov and Tal.
Botvinnik is perhaps the most underestimated chess legend. He deserves much more recognition.
Lol. Please read the history how he manipulated FIDE rules for his benefits. He basically stole titles from Tal and Vasily Smyslov
@@SankalpApharande can you give me a link please? I have watched a video where Tal praises him after the rematch. I believe that chess FIDE rules cannot radically change the nature of a classical game.
@@albibushi3006 He never won a world title defense.
He won the vacant championship (due to Alekhine’s death) in the 1948 match-tournament. He held the title in 1951 and 1954 by drawing (not winning) against Bronstein and Smyslov. The title holder got the keep the title in case of a drawn match.
He lost to Smyslov in 1957 and got the title back by invoking a rematch clause put in especially for him, winning in 1958 (as the challenger).
He lost to Tal in 1960 and again used the rematch route to regain the title in 1961.
@@albibushi3006 its on Botvinnik’s wikipedia. And in 1962, even though Tal was not medically fit to play championship, Botvinnik asked for rematch without going through candidates tournament. And when Tals doctors said he’s not fit, Botvinnik asked to get approval from Moscow’s doctors.
@@SankalpApharande look, TAL is my all time favorite. But someone who has come back so many times after defeat, someone who has contributed for chess academies like Botvinnik, should also be given credit for his contribution. He is not top 4 in terms of brilliancy but i think that coming back after defeats is not a small task either. I think we must agree to differ.
Excellent game by Botnivik.
Botvinnik and tal. Two giants of the modern game.
Tal himself made no excuses. Botvinnik came to understand what it takes to keep Tal from overrunning him combinatorially: "limiting the scope of Tal's pieces." He played that way consistently throughout the match.
Beautiful quote by Tal, he understood that chess is fate, not luck better than any chess master
in fact, everyone knows that Tal was seriously ill during the second championship, and when Botvinnik wanted revenge, the doctors didn’t advise Tal to even get closer to chess, but Botvinnik didn’t care ... and, moreover, Botvinik even took advantage of Tal’s disease because he didn’t want to lose to Tal the championship again .. so if Tal lost it’s only because of his illness
The cool thing about watching games with Botvinnik and Tal is that the two players are extremists of their respective styles. Botvinnik is very position oriented and Tal is very tactics oriented.
I wonder where did you see in this game positional play from Botvinnik ? It's screaming that the both players were attacking, actually Tal looked more positional here.
KungfuKoala
Being on the attack does not necessarily imply that your playing style is tactical. The things that Botvinnik did were patient. For instance, he wanted to close the game before continuing with his attack. If you look at Tal in this game, for example at 2:02; Tal captures the knight on g3 and allows the h-file to open up. A strictly position player would not normally do this because positional players say that rooks on open files are good. Here Tal is deliberately letting Botvinnik have a rook on an open file. So why does Tal do this? Well, if you notice, Tal has a little more potential space for his pieces after this exchange, and that's what Tal wants.
I didn't say Tal was strictly positional nor that Botvinnik strictly tactical, but Botvinnik was not a positional player if you look at his games on this channel including this one, they are often sharp and involve sacrifices. Compare his games to Karpov or Petrosian and you will see the difference.
In fact tal's sacrifices were many times positional... Which is kinda weird, because they were tactics and he was a great tactician o_O
Hats off to a good looser!
Great Video// But I like more games where Tal Win...
Tal is a great human being 🙏
Botvinnik refrained from taking what Tal had to offer. ....He was patient and Tal was passing stones. ...auch!!!!
Some say Botvinnik had a boring style; tending towards closed games and perhaps originating the endless draws of Soviet chess in the 70's. But the swashbuckling Tal whom every chessplayer loves had a very hard time defeating it. Very few players could poke any sort of hole in Botvinnik's playing. Inch by inch he defeated many a player and seldom lost. He may not be as exciting as Tal (who is?) but he was able to take tiny advantages and press them into brutal attacks many times.
I agree. The same goes for Karpov too. I personally enjoy watching their games too
+arsenalfanrichi don't forget carlsen as well, he also eeks out wins from seemingly drawn drawn positions
at 5:00 in the video, white should have delivered check with bishop on g6 (here the bishop can shoot back to defend on d1 square in cooperation with white knight), then taken knight on f6 with white rook. if black rook recaptures white rook, then white rook to g8, check, followed by capturing black rook on a8. What you guys think?
very well played by botvinnik
At 1:08 instead of playing a6 , wasn't pawn to f4 a better move ?
what would have happened if after move 11 when white played knight take knight black had played pond takes bishop, instead of taking knight, attacking queen?
awesome game
1:51, white pawn still takes on bishop even after loosing its knight to the white knight then attacking the queen, queen then takes or moves away, and then black takes the white knight by its knight.
doesnt work after fxd3 white has swischenzug Nxf6+
I think black wanted to try something unexpected here by opening the g file early in the game. I think white played a prudent game from a strong position. It's not that black isn't aggressive ... his opening threatens p-e4 in conjunction with a queen side advance, and tal's play is pretty darn threatening for the whole game even though he develops along different lines. I would have liked to see b-d7 instead of q-e8.
hi Mato THx we want the sinqufield cup 2014 if its possible !!!!
Don't like to see my superhero lose😂
Two chess giants..!
i think tal lost because opponent won.
very insightful observation
In Mato's hands, I was sure Tal was going to win the rematch!! ;-)
Tal is the chess GOAT.
I hate to see Tal lose too..
Sir can't understand why did Tal played knight takes knight on g3 at 204 seconds in the video, pawn takes knight allows botivvinik open the H file to attack Tal, I knew at that point Tal will loose,
Two giants..
It is like watching Caruana vs Carlsen.
Tal forgot to sacrifice lots of material. No wonder he lost. He must have been sick.
Ha, Botvinnik found a killah move !
Why did Tal open up his Kingside pawns so early? Very risky strategy.
i think that is the idea of kings indian defense. also, one should attack in the same wing as where his pawn chain heads
I'm related to Botvinnik
Botwinnik + Tal = nuclear explosion
I was expecting an insane Q-side attack from Tal but it never came. Botvinnik tied Tal up too much on the King side.
Tal not only the Mikhail who know plays chess :))))))
i watch this channel for surprising genious moves by mato just kidding
Botvinnik won because tal in serious health problem
He was outplayed
Tal resigned
I think i lost my ears
If he were fit, he would be win...
I don't like when Tal loses a game....
Tal lost? What world are we on?
No
When a chess journalist asked Tal what he regrets in his live, he said: to postpone my return match...
noooooo tal lost
extree! extree! read all about it!
tal resigns!
Tal loses again! Does not compute... Does not compute...
Soviets vs Tal.
Таль сделал 3 грубых ошибки, поэтому и проиграл.
