    I have a little theory and I could be wrong. I think Ferrari had to go for hard tyres as they possibly found that the medium and softs don't last two stints. Which was a problem on the previous races. While Toyota were using mediums and softs in the same conditions. Trying to activate hard tyres in track temps about 5-10C is incredibly difficult. This would explain why the Ferrari was slower than LMP2 and GTE at the start of the stint. What do you guys think?

  • @f.ludovico3105
    @f.ludovico3105 Рік тому +10

    What's the point of removing the tyre blankets in the first place? This is one of the most professional racing championships in the world, which entails everything should be on par with their status as professional racing. Who in his/her right mind would think drivers don't need tyre blankets for slicks that require certain temperature to function properly? Is it beneficial to greater safety? Is it conducive to more intense battle? Or is it a more sensible choice as compared to using blankets? I believe none of those questions could be satisfactorily answered by it. So, unless for the sake of manufacturing cheap unpredictability, which only casual "fans" would appreciate, there is no reason for such a rule change. It's always been said that media coverage would tarnish the professionalism and delicacy of sporting events, which is happening to WEC right now (and other championships), which is simply sad.

    crazy that the car must be going well over 150kph when this happened. at just 670hp, it's not like these cars are monsters. just shows how undriveable cold tires are. they aren't allowed to have tire warmers, but what's stopping them from using heat guns, or storing the tires in an oven then? I honestly think it's unnecessary to not allow tire warmers, and purposely making cars more dangerous

    I think this new hypercar class is really putting on display how much modern racing drivers have grown to rely on assists/trac control/abs/stability management. It feels like this is the first prototype class in a while to have taken some of these assists away and really bite back HARD when the driver makes a small error. Dont get me wrong, I'm sure these cars are incredibly complex and have lots of systems in place to help it out, its not like a freaking 60's lemans prototype or anything. But it really does seem much more of a difficult class to handle than previous dpi and lmp, I can imagine how hard it'd be with cold tires, no abs, in the rain. But I think the prototype drivers from the 50's-90's would be laughing at how hard a time these drivers are having handling them. Its sad so many cars seem to have been destroyed this race. Long beach had a lot of carnage in the hypercar class too.

    • @zohery-ismaelrakotoarisolo908
      @zohery-ismaelrakotoarisolo908 Рік тому +3

      The difference is that today's prototypes are made to be driven smoothly. They are so complex and precise they don't tolerate agressive corrections, while with a 60s prototype you can literally 'drift' over a whole corner without big consequences

    • @johnsullivan937
      @johnsullivan937 Рік тому +1

      @@zohery-ismaelrakotoarisolo908 Thats a good point, I notice the margin for error seems a lot smaller now. Definitely not discrediting what these drivers do. I guess I'd describe it as the cars being more twitchy. I still think some old school lemans driver like AJ foyt would find it funny, They'd be like "yeah welcome to the club, I had to drive 500 miles at 200mph in pouring rain, in a car that constantly tries to kill me"
