    Great to see another video, you always give us so much to think about. You just have to wonder how our grandfathers ever hit anything back in the day. If the local hardware store only sold one kind of Remington or Winchester ammo for their 30-30 or 30.06 and there were harmonics, twist or seating depth issues, I guess you just blamed the gun or caught grief from your buddies about what a lousy shooter you were! 😆

      Yeah, that is a good point Aaron. I remember my Grandfather putting out a paper plate, shooting off-hand at 50 yards and if all the shots hit pretty well on that plate is was good for a white tail deer hunt.
      All our technology, engineering, calculations, and rifle system advancements have really made sub-MOA groups a reality.
      Thanks for watching and posting Aaron.

    I would think that your bullet length at the ogive could be the issue here. Possibly a twist rate issue but who could say from a video? Nice honest video though. Thanks

    I have a LaRue Tactical 18" 6.5 Grendel with 1/7 twist barrel, and I just picked up two boxes of this V-Match, from the way your rifle shot this stuff you have me worried, my rifle also loves the Hornady Black. What do you think about my even faster 1/7 twist barrel using this V-match ammo?

    Question- when you shot the Black ammo… while it grouped .8 MOA, it was still considerably high over the bullseye.
    I am just getting into this rifle stuff and I’m wondering why not hitting the bullseye doesn’t concern you?

      Good question. I am not concerned about this as my Grendel rifle is zeroed for my reloads, 115 gr. Barnes TAC-TX bullets.
      Thanks for watching and posting!

    I would love to know what magazine your using, looks like a ASC Brand? also please what model Timmy trigger did you not like and what model Triggertech did you switch to?

      I am using the Alexander Arms E-Lander mags. I had these cerakoted also.
      The Timney trigger that I did not like was the AR-15 single stage 667S. I replaced it with a TriggerTech Diamond Two Stage MSR Trigger. It is a fantastic trigger.
      Thanks for watching and posting!

      @@sdkweber I was planning on purchasing that very same Timmy trigger for a SBR. what didn't you like about that trigger? I do run Triggertech in all my DMR Rifles. I thought the Timmy would work better in a home defense type rifle?

      @@jonboyhst6448There are nuances to triggers that are very difficult to describe and one person's experience with a given trigger may not reflect the experience of another shooter. Having said that, that specific Timney trigger (while it came in consistently at just over 3 lbs) had an all or none wall of a trigger. While shooting precision I like to really get to know the trigger and when the crosshairs are on the bullseye I want to apply that little bit extra trigger squeeze and send the bullet down the bore. There was no "little bit more" with this trigger. It was all three + pounds now, which was not ideal for precision work. For other applications (home defense), it could be a great trigger as it is consistent and reliable and is far better than OEM triggers. I hope my description helps some.

    I got the eld-vt 62gr, but its too long for mag length 223.

    • @sdkweber
      @sdkweber  3 місяці тому

      That's really too bad. Sorry to hear that. I assume you are probably using polymer mags, but if you have some metal stanag mags they might just barely fit.
      Thanks for posting that. It will be good info for other viewers.

    Flyer…perhaps cold bore? Cold shooter? Clean bore? Additionally, your twist rate needs to be tighter for the new VT bullets because it depends on a bullet length…not weight.

    • @sdkweber
      @sdkweber  3 місяці тому

      Could be any of the above. Cold bore, cold shooter... that's why I shot several groups (it was seasoned bore in all cases).
      You are correct that longer bullets need faster twist and while I cannot find the length of these bullets posted online I doubt a 100 gr. bullet would be longer than a 123 gr. bullet. But I am not certain of that. Have you seen bullet lengths posted? If so, please send a link.
      Thanks for watching DW None.

      @@sdkweber I will measure both of them and let you know. But also, it’s not just the total length, but more so the bearing surface of each bullet.

    • @sdkweber
      @sdkweber  3 місяці тому +1

      @@justice1327That would be great to know and you are correct again. Your points are spot on and its interesting because I cued a video for release in a few weeks that describes these same points and characteristics of bullets.

      @@justice1327Thanks for doing that and sending in the results. Is that a 0.224" diameter bullet? I measured the 115 gr. Barnes TAC-TX that shoots well in this rifle and it is 1.284" in length.

    Maybe try making your own handloads using the same bullet and see if your barrel really doesn't like it.

      @@sdkweberI would be very interested in your reloading results with the 6.5gr 100gr ELD-VT bullets. My current varmint/short range target load is a 95gr V-Max over 8208XBR, but I was hoping to find something of similar speed that handles the wind better

      @sdkweber  Місяць тому

      @@DanielReyes-hz1qk I have not tried reloading for this 100 gr. bullet. I will be working up a load for the 110 gr Lehigh match bullet though. Probably not a good varmint round as it is monolithic.
