  • Here's my 1920's NATIONAL DAMASCUS GRAND ROTARY that I'll be using for the next 11 blocks of the "365 Sampler Challenge" by Kathryn Kerr. I've had this machine stored away for 10 years and NEVER SEWED WITH IT!! I bought it in its original oak parlor-cabinet, like the one shown in the Ward's catalog image, to put a Two-Spool machine into it, so this Damascus pulled out of the cabinet and never used. Shame on me!!! This is a great machine and I am very impressed!!

Thank you so much for doing more videos. You show and explain things so well! Yours are the best Treadle machine videos on UA-cam!

Oh my, well, thanks so much for the super nice comment!. Glad you've enjoyed my videos. I'll be putting up a different video of a different machine every couple of weeks as I work on this 365 quilt challenge. I'm determined to use a different machine every 11 blocks, so will end up using about 37 of my treadles and hand-cranks. This 365 quilt is a challenge enough on its own, but I've added using multiple machines to the challenge to add a little more to the fun. :-)

@@PhuongNguyen-tn8tu This manual should help you. The Damascus Grand Rotary threads the same way and has the same bobbin as the Eldredge Rotary.

Vey nice I have a UK Wheeler Wilson 8 and a 9 I do like the rotary hook machines.
I think the WW8 has a way of slowing down the hook to make the lock stitch
The WW8 actually clamps the lower bobbin thread because there is no bobbin tension, just a knurled nut to increase the clamping pressure, this took me a bit to figure out.
The UK hand wind was more popular since we had small houses back in the day, UK hand wind wheel is very different to the USA version.
I am pleased you got your machine out of storage.
My interest is in the engineering and making the machines work, I learnt to use a sewing machine my mother's 222k back in 1984, wish she had given it to me :'''-(( not the tears in my eye.
I would have included a picture link to mine BUT youtube silently deletes my post if I do.
I subscribed years ago and recently watched your 9yearold YT 1895 Tucker marker,. One was included in an 1891 Singer 28k I was given since it did not work, now it works (It has the older shuttle carrier without the extra finger).
    all the best

I actually have 4 Wheeler & Wilson machines: 8, D9, 12-W-102 and L-12-3-1. ALL four are top-notch quality machines and excellent to sew on. I did sew 11 blocks early on in this 365 quilt project using my W&W8, but didn't make a very good video for it, so didn't post it to YT. But, that 8 was incredible to use for these small quilt blocks...just an excellent machine! I can see why Singer bought them out and continued to sell some of their original machines because they were so well engineered. LOVE THEM!! I wish I had a hand-wind attachment for my D9--do you have one sitting around you don't need?? 😂😂

@@FiddleyBits Sorry there are no spares, I could send you pictures it may give you an idea to adapt or make a DIY.
I have considered using a battery drill mounted to a wood platform with a rubber wheel pressing on the fly wheel, then I could put any of my sewing machines on the platform and then there is no original machine modification
      This is worth watching
I also have an electrical background and saw this on one of my YT subscriptions, it is a bit scary the Singer survived the motor did not.

The guy normally works with high power electrical devices

Gosh...sorry, but I can't help you with that. I don't have a damascus vibrating shuttle to compare. Just give them a try and see if they work.
