One thing I love about your channel is that you're not just always pushing the latest hype on people like other channels. You'll do a video highlighting something new (Digitakt II), then next you're doing live sets, entire albums, and videos helping people still discover and love a synth from 2016.
Thank you so much! Almost called you Alex Kidd for a moment there 😀 Nice icon 🫶🏼
One of the true legends
🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
You've been an inspiration for YEARS now, thank you Cuckoo!!
🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Thank you so much for everything you do. I've followed so many of your tutorials and you've taught me so much about making the music that makes me happy. You're an absolute treasure and such an incredible teacher and inspiration to the music making community. Thank you Cuckoo! XXX
Thank you so much Tom! That is definitely warming up my heart today. 🙏🏼
I was hoping you were going to do something like this. I really loved that digitone live set. I thought it was the best use of the digitone on the internet. Really hoping for another one day. Keep doing your thing!
Thank you so much Saws! I appreciate it ⚡️
That live set made me buy a Digitone, first HW synth ever. Now, my life is ruined, but I'm happy 👌.
Real talk man. Hoping to see you back at it sometime!
Hello dear 😜 it is really fun to try to compose with minimalism, it can cure the G.A.S 🎹😎 thanks for your presence ❤️ Love cheers
When you said "Megadrive" sound, my mind immediately went to "Kid Chameleon". This game had some of that weirdly dope music which featured these kind of hard FM sounds the Megadrive could produce. These sounds shaped my childhood and I feel your Digitone songs really borrow from that era. I dig it ! Cheers from France
Yeah you get the vibe! I also grew up with the Megadrive sound. Much inspiration from that in this album.
That Japanese Koto sounding patch on “run stop” is really nice 👍
Thank you! Yeah I’m really happy with how it turned out.
So pleased you made a whole album from that awesome live-set you did. I've still got that original file on my phone and listen to it fairly regularly, so it's great you made it into a whole album now!
Whatever you did to write from 8:00 onwards in Syntax Mismatch is just beautiful. The rest of the tracks on the album are excellent but this particular section is outstanding. I have to try and fit it into my DJ sets. Thank you for sharing your art ❤
brilliant video Cuckoo. Love the new album too
Thank you so much!!
Thanks for your generosity sharing your process, not only the how but also the why! You’re a hero to all of us independent musicians
This explanation just made me appreciate yesterdays gig (in Cafe Bosch) even more. And get my hands on this synth (which will actually be my first, after toying around with Ableton mostly). Cheers!
The original video you released a few years ago of you performing this video game album is what made be sub to your patreon and buy a digitone! I love that you have released this as an album and this video is so interesting as well. Thank you 😊
Loved this live set and really appreciate the breakdown! You’re a wizard and have taught me so much about this little wonderful machine
I want to sincerely say thank you so much for this video! I was procrastinating around thinking about what piece of gear should a buy next to finally assemble “the ultimate” setup. Your video reminded me that it’s all about making whatever you have work and self expression. Now I’m happily back to my current setup and feel productive again!
That’s the best!! So glad to hear that. Keep it up!
Hey Cuckoo, thanks for this awesome tutorial and congrats on the new album. So creative.🎧
❤️❤️❤️
Thank you for sharing your process. I have literally just this week chosen to focus on making whole tracks on just the Digitone, so this has come about at a perfect time for me. Congrats on the albums release, great sounds 🎵
Congratulations man! Love your style, advice and insights :)
Awesome job man! Very inspiring work.
You are an amazing artist Cuckoo!
Big thanks mate! 🧡
Happy release day and thanks for the insight. :) I think you absolutely mastered the digitone.
Loved the insight into your process; thank you for sharing. Enjoying the new album.
Thank you! I love to hear it. 🙏🏼
Oh, you finally did it.. The Megadrive album! Awesome :D
Yeah!! Finally!!
I just downloaded your album on Apple Music. Can’t wait to dig in. You have such a wonderful energy. I’ve always wanted to make an album with one thing but it’s harder than it sounds. Especially on a hardware box. Loved the ‘preview’.
🙏🏼 Thank you Ray! I know you can do it. But if you need a little extra that is not on the hardware palette, allow yourself some DAW-ing, if it helps you get there.
Amazing! What a cool project idea. Thanks for creating such awesome music, mate!
I‘m fascinated how real the snare sounds!
Thanks! Yeah, a lot of time went into finding the right balance in that Snare :D
Great job - love the album! Interesting to see the breakdown of the process as well 🎉🎉
Thanks mate! I appreciate it 🙏🏼
Nice! I just listened to the album and it's interesting how sticking just to the sequencer and the 4 tracks with effects available on the Digitone created a kind of "chip tune" sound (Just it's the Digitone chip instead of a console sound unit!)
Thanks! Yeah it becomes very coherent, in a way, when all the sound is coming from the same instrument. Like its own world.
That is amazing Cuckoo!
🙏🏼 So good to see you here! Thank you!
Congratulations! Nice work on the documentation.
Thank you Mike! I appreciate it.
i'm impressed that this ipad is doing screen mirroring without any latency with all that interaction
Yeah! I have a great experience when it’s wired. Wireless it’s still fast, but sometimes it drops out for me.
I really hope they drop a Digitone keys x2 or 2 with 12 operators with 16 voices. I’d buy it instantly
You are a true genius and inspiration! I’m going to dig out my old friend the digitone and forget all about digitakt II.
Ha ha, thank you so much Johan. Much appreciated 🙏🏼
Amen, this has brought me back from the brink!
One piece of gear! Amen!
Hey, you are the best ! I learned with you how to use my digitone and opz, thanks so much for all your vidéos, you are a blessing for all us 🙏
Thank you! You might be the best Croassant ever. I appreciate your kind comment ❤️
you're a hero cuckoo
💖😭🙏🏼
"edited down to tighten it up" track is still 12 minutes. i love you dude
Haha, thanks. Yeah this track started out as two songs. Then for a club gig I started making a third song in the middle to transition between the two. When recording it I ended up making it all into one song.
@@truecuckoo it works quite well. It's one of my favorite tracks on the album. Big inspiration to pull out my own digitone to make some music. Thanks for the nice sounds
Cool first track sounds like Shinobi😍
Increíble, muchas gracias por toda información y los conocimientos.
El álbum está muy brutal!
Amazing album. Would definitely buy it on vinyl
Brilliant and u spiring video and I’ll get streaming! Cheers Cuckoo. Enjoy Suoerbooth.
I’ve been bored of using DAW to make music and my dream had always been to make an album on a piece of hardware, this is the inspiration I need 👍👌
I believe in you! ⚡️⚡️
Hahah thanks man 😄🫡
This is great! Thanks for sharing your process. I don’t have a Digitone but I love fm synthesis and I have often thought about making an adlib or mega drive type album with my PSS-30 being sequenced by Digitakt. Probably not as controllable as the digitone, but it does have that classic sound that brings me back to playing MS-DOS games on my family’s old computer in the 90s .
Thanks! Go for it!!
I'm gonna listen to it today, and nice haircut my friend. 🙏🏾✊🏾💚
this is exactly what i want to do. Make several DAWLESS Albums with each individual piece of gear i own. 707 Tr8s Syntakt Volca Beats,Sample1-2 FM1-2 etc... This is inspiring
Blitterate is 🔥 for me I bet it’s so fun to play 😎👍🏻
Thank youUU!!
Hey Cuckoo! Thanks so much for this very informative video and thanks for the awesome music! Just a quick question, did you use an external midi keyboard for inputting notes or just the keyboard on the Digitone or maybe a mixture of both?
Thanks! That's a good question. I actually didn't use a keyboard for the process. It's all made on the box stand-alone. Since everything is kind of intricately composed, and lots of time went into putting trigs into available gaps, in order make the most out of it, it kind of became a very "surgical" process :D
@@truecuckoo that's even more impressive and thanks so much for the answer!
Jeeze UAD, give this man a permanent license!!
Haha. 😅
Laid down some basic tracks took it to a pro studio where it was remixed and mastered by top blokes.
You're a f*cking master.
Great Video! I just bought a used digitone, cause I love my syntakt and was looking for another elektron box. Digitone was not my first choice, but there happend to be a very good offer, so I took the risk and now I'm really loving the digitone. Still haven't had time to connect both syntakt and digitone together, cause I just used the digitone alone all the time and hours went by creating different patterns and sounds 😅 Like you've shown here you can create so much just with the digitone alone. And btw. thanks for the great tutorial from a while ago, that was perfect for starting with it.
Nice! I’m glad you enjoy the Digitone! One of my favourites.
Hi Cuckoo! Is your new album going to be available on Bandcamp or do you use Patreon for that kind of distribution? Also this video is super cool and makes me want to get a DN harrd.
Thanks. For download of the album I’ve put it up for my Patrons as an additional option. No Bandcamp for now. Only main streaming services.
@@truecuckoo sweet as 👌
just listened to it SO sick!
❤️❤️❤️
@@truecuckoo i think you discovered a new turing test: if an entity listens to syntax mismatch and isn't thrusting their hips within 30s then they def not conscious 😆
@@djcuvcuv haha thanks!
love 🧡
Thank you Maestro Cuckoo! I recently discovered your work and I'm loving it! Just listened to your new Album "Non Binary Code" and I particularly liked the track "mem patch." Are you able to point me to more of your music with similar vibes to that?
Thank you! I have released some music, but every album is a different project. I’ve made another live set with a somewhat similar vibe on another fm synth called model cycles. Perhaps you’d like it. I haven’t recorded it as an album, but you can listen to my performance on UA-cam. ua-cam.com/video/32n04td1sM8/v-deo.htmlsi=2Tye6OJY_bGWUrrK
Hey thanks for this! This is my fave box personally and have been using it since it came out and have NEVER known about the Midi button controlling all tracks haha thanks!
Control all is BEAST MODE!!
@@truecuckoo How many different patterns do you think you used for this? Digging the record!
@@monofied somewhere between 80-110 patterns I think, for the whole album. Some songs are a bit simpler, and the variations are in my performing, while others (like the one in the video) has a longer form with 16+ patterns.
listening to the album now, this is great, thank you. What do you think of the Kodamo Essencefm?
The album sounds incredible and sent me diving for my old DX100 for some FM mallets fun 😀
Thank you sooo much! FM for life 😀
Tsuki Ga is an awesome track!
Thank you so much Luke!
"ïts not quantity of gear" says the man who have it all haha
cheers cuco
Yeah. It’s a paradox. The more gear I have, the more confused. I enjoy minimalist setups. That’s when I’m the most productive.
But i took some magic mushrooms and truffles today, I’m listening to it now and it is AWESOME!!!!!!! I’ll watch this later on when it’s not hitting me so intense lol. They kicked in as i was watching this. BYE 👋🏼 ❤U everybody!😊
Cool news i enjoy the idea one Machine only for an album 💚🎵🎶👍 hope u do one with the Digitakt 2 too🙏🤩
Do you expect to see a release of Digitone II soon?
Thanks
Thank you so much!
❣
Very inspiring watching you master the Digitone. Do you favor the Digitone above Digitakt II and Syntakt?
Thanks! I think the Digitone has been a favourite for a good while. If I were to pair two devices it'll probably be Digitone + Digitakt 2. I like the Syntakt especially for the analog tracks, but for digital FM synthesis I prefer the Digitone.
This is fantastic, I'm listening to the album now. Is there any chance you would have the album pressed to vinyl or cassette? Truly a masterwork in FM synth albums in the style of MegaDrive/Genesis soundtracks.
Thank you so much for listening! I want to make a vinyl for later this year. But I need to save up for paying up front. It’s kinda expensive 😬
8:52 sounds like DMT, great job! Did you use a midi keyboard or did you program all the notes in the box?
Thanks! I programmed it all in the box. It’s really intricate and detailed programming, reaching into the gaps and pushing it to the limits.
heyyy any chance you will ever upload the project to patreon or smth? im workng on my own digtone set and id love to play some "'covers" of your stuff and id happilly pay forthe knowledge burried in that project! Great vid btw!
Can’t find it on Bandcamp?
less hair seems fresh for the spring season!
Thanks 🙏🏼
I just really want a digitone 2, with 128 steps
Run the sequencer at half resolution and use micro timing if needed. And trig conditions. 128 steps, to me, sounds like more hassle than it’s worth 😉
Hi from Tehran!
👋🏽
Hello Cuckoo!!!!!!!!
Hellooo!!!
so cool, I want to do this with my A4
Thanks! You can do it!!
Hi from Syberia!
Hello there!
I’ll buy the album just to support your future haircuts!!
Any motivation is good motivation 😅
Will you post the album on Bandcamp eventually?
hi u are awesome that is all bye
How do you screen share logic to your ipad? I use cubase, but would like to try the same setup. Thanks
The iPad/ Mac has something called Sidecar which can be used both wireless or over a USB-C cable. It’s essentially iPad as a monitor. I think both the Mac and iPad needs to be relatively new. Should just pop up in the display system settings when adding a display.
@@truecuckoo Thanks. I like the idea of editing automation with the pen, and being able to start and stop transport while i'm across the room playing the drumset.
Hello, I`m from Russia. This is my second comment to you. I would like to find out why your piece was called "This is not effortless"? What does it mean? I may have missed your explanation because I don't speak English well. Nevertheless, is it possible to get a discount for sheets of this composition? Thank you for your creation.
Would LOOOOOVE to see what you could do with a Behringer EDGE! *video request anyone else? hehe
For a brief moment - Overbridge on iPad! - Oh, never mind 😁
Haha yeah deceiving!! Sorry, it’s my best solution for interesting a computer screen. 😅
iPads cover so much ground though.
Digitone II confirmed!
Hahahah ❤️
does Qobuz streaming pay better than others?
I have no idea. When Apple Music came out, they had better deals for artists. But by now I bet everything is the same. 🤷🏻♀️
@@truecuckoo damn. well its still on loop as we speak, so with any luck we'll get some vinyls ;)
Awesome! Love your work! Your explanations are some of the best on youtube. A unique voice and approach in Electronic Music. :)
My latest album is also
100% Digitone. I think you would appreciate it. On Schematic music - Haptic Clouds.
Digitone bros 👊🏽
I've been waiting so long for this :D Is there any chance of the project file being shared as part of a digital album purchase? I've learnt so much from @ylva trax Digitone albums and playing through the patterns myself. Thanks Cuckoo :)
bandcamp?
Currently not on Bandcamp.
@@truecuckooBandcamp is really only known for that girl with the flute.
