I just picked this up as my first table saw during a whole home renovation. I chose this after wonderful experiences with their cordless driver and oscillating multi-tool. They're affordable, come with chargers and batteries that aren't trash, and are very powerful. I've been very impressed with what Skil has to offer and this saw has exceeded my expectations at this price point. Obviously, I don't have much to compare it to, but I can say its been a workhorse and made me a repeat customer of Skil products.

I have this saw, bought about a year ago. Changes I've made to it:
    1. Added a soft-start module (rewiring required).
    2. Replaced the crappy miter gauge with one from Kregg.
    3. Replaced the 24 tooth blade with a decent one
    4. Bought a matching zero-clearance throat plate
    5. Folded the legs down - they actually have tiny "feet" when folded to set on a table.
    6. Built an outfeed table which the saw sits in (Thanks to 3x3 Custom on UA-cam for this idea)
    7. Bought a dado set from Freud.
    8. Bought a push block (can't remember the brand) to save my fingers.
The saw itself is fine, but underpowered for very large cuts.
However the rack and pinion fence is great and adjustments for blade alignment is easy to do.
This will be fine until I move up to a used cabinet saw.

I was looking for a review on this saw and couldn't find one. Thank you Vince! The only reason I haven't updated my old portable table saw is because it's dead quiet, it has an induction motor instead of a noisy universal motor which all the new contractor saws use. Makes a huge difference working inside or near neighbors.

Watched a couple of videos on this saw, I am not a professional wood worker but am a diy person who has built many items, this saw impressed me enough to purchase this saw. Wanted the rack and pinion fence, wanted a stand, wanted simple adjustments, I’m 77 years young so wanted something that would not be to heavy. Prior to this purchase I would have to return home to rip long cuts now I can use this saw. Just a note I have a Dewalt miter saw and stand that I love. Great video

You did this very well, all the important points covered and explained. As a cabinetmaker for 40+ years, I have seen and used most types of saws from massive 12" production units to drag to the jobsite and hope you get lucky. This one would be welcome anywhere good work is being done. It would be really helpful if you did a demo of the slightly less used but very necessary operations such as angled cuts, dado setups and mitre guage and very thin piece. Also, both for ease and safety, show how to build a simple, easily attached and removed outfeed support platform. Thanks for your efforts to bring pro level results to the "prosumer".

I've got this table saw. And it's a damn good saw. It struggles past the 1 inch thick stuff. I installed a DeWalt construction 60 tooth blade on mine. It really woke up the saw. Also on the wide rips if you have the fence to the left, flip the guard piece down and it supports the piece you are cutting. I had the DeWalt jobsite saw and I like this one better.

As a remodeling contractor I have a ton of pro grade tools. I settled on Dewalt table saws. It's hard to beat Dewalts rack and pinion fence setup. It's very accurate. The only Skil tool to make the "cut" through the years is a Skilsaw Mag 77. My van was broken into and I had several thousand dollars in tools stolen along with my beloved Dewalt table saw. I'm happy to see that now Skilsaw has a worm drive table saw with the rack and pinion fence, although not this model. It might be the perfect replacement.

I like this review (first time watcher, now subscribed), and this saw is definitely in the mix to replace a nearly 30 year-old Delta XL-10 contractor saw. It's been good for me but is not aging gracefully, plus it takes up way too much space in my microshop. I like the look of this saw, but a folding cart with wheels would actually be right helpful, so this is not quite a clearcut winner for me, not yet.

I love the rack and pinion fence though the plastic gears may not hold up over time and a lot of use. For a DIYer who is looking for accuracy and may only do a few projects a year, I think there is a lot of value in this saw, at the price point. Particularly with the integral stand, which adds $40 - $50 dollars in value vs. a simple aftermarket stand. Take that savings and reinvest it in a higher quality blade, and this could be a really nice saw.

Bought this saw, and set it up quickly. Fairly accurate out of the box. I bought a Diablo finish blade and installed it during the initial setup. I was using it for some Lifeproof flooring. The integrated stand is awesome, the hinges are alittle stiff of the out of the box but not a issue. Only this is don’t like is the huge bulky guard, it should have a detention for you to flip it up out of the way instead of being forced to remove it. They should have a spot on the saw to store it when you pop it off instead of tossing it on the floor lol

Nice saw! Just throw on some hearing protection. I used to have a 10” Rigid job site saw, that was nice. Ended up selling it and I picked up the M18 job site. Love that saw. Had to rip some Trex. Worked awesome!

Milwaukee m18 table saw is a great saw but the blade size is 8-1/4" not 10”. the 8-1/4” blade mades not differants to me for I grow up using my fathers table saw he got in the early 50’s… it had a 8-1/4’” blade on it too

Like Button SMASHED! Content approved and appreciated. I’ve been considering where to spend some of my dough-ray-me on a portable table saw. You are absolutely right that it has some great features, namely the integrated stand, positive bevel stops and most importantly, the Rack and Pinion Fence! That is a winner. Also correct, and appreciate that you thought to look and point out that both the raise and lower gears and the fence pinion gear are all plastic. ( Not lovin’ that!) With all that said, it might be well worth at least considering the Skil for it’s bang for the buck. I do handyman type work, so day to day, the tasks vary widely, and would not need it every day. But it’s nice to have a solid go to option on the days and jobs where it is needed. Thanks Vince for keeping the very best info coming for the Very Cool Gang; we appreciate it and we appreciate you!

I just bought one, in new zealand it comes with a 48 tooth blade, lucky me I am yet to test it yet but will put it through its paces this weekend. Very informative thanks.

As u say, I’d appreciate teal/steel to plastic components- although at its price point seems to be a pretty nice little saw. Keep up the awesome videos, I appreciate your opinions & reviews.

Thanks for this video, I been trying to decide from this saw or the dewalt. This one is a bit cheaper, and all the info you just provided helped me to see its a quality sae although pretty noisy. It will be my first purchase in trying to start woodworking. Thanks again very helpful 👍🏽 ✌🏽

Started my own business years back installing hardwood. I bought a skil saw. Junk within a year. Plastic bearing holders melted. Spent a little extra got a dewalt and love it. I have used it almost every day for 12 to 13 years and still beautiful.

Thats Skil 12 years ago, they did make cheaper stuff. This is Skil now. Glad we have current reviews instead of old prejudices. I bought this to replace my old Dewalt, got it on sale less than $300. For what I paid, its a solid deal. I apparently got a newer revision, came in a black box, and had some changes, and things like the throat plate were metal, not plastic. So apparently they are continuing to improve the product. That's a good sign.

Technical question here. So I have this same saw, love it, does everything I want. My only issue is the throatplate when doing dados. The throatplate has those little leveling screws in it to balance things out, but the plastic flexes, so when I dado or rabbet I get uneven channels. I made my own 0 clearance throat plate out of oak, but it's a pain cuz there is a long metal strip going across the opening where the blade attaches, so to make a throatplate you have to cut a channel through the middle to get things to lay flush...which doesn't leave much material left for strength. Got any suggestions on either making the existing throatplate better or making your own?

Anyone having trouble installing blade guard. Raise the riving knife to top slot. It's in directions. The drawing doesn't show the knife three slots up. It comes shipped one slot lower than you need it. This video is super great think a few people missed this . It sold me on this saw. Plus my last skil is working great after 15 years but my rip fence failed and parts are no longer available. Seems you need a rip fence to make a rip fence. Plus who doesn't want a new tool after 15 years.
