The time has finally arrived. I have driven the new 2023 C8 Corvette Z06. Faster. Wider. Louder. Better in every way than the already capable C8 Corvette Stingray, the mid-engined Z06 brings a brand new 5.5L Flat plane crank V8, codenamed the LT6, which revs to 8600 rpm and makes 670 horsepower, taking the title of the World's Most Powerful Naturally Aspirated Production V8. This is a seriously special engine for a seriously special car. With the track focused Z07 package, you get an aggressive carbon fiber aero package, carbon ceramic brakes, optional carbon fiber wheels and retuned steering and suspension. This car has all the right ingredients, and we got to find out if they added up to an amazing final result. The first drive occurred on the curvy mountain roads outside Pittsburgh, then we hit the track at Pittsburgh Raceway, a spectacular track. Very nice drive and commentary, specially since you have yours incoming. Great to see the D auto mode responds on track. Gavin's commentary was interesting to listen to, as well. BTW, supercar, it certainly seems to be, but regardless, it looks to be a fabulous blend of GT and track car. To me a track day car only is totally uninteresting. It has to be usable.

To me this Z06 is a more lustworthy car than any Ferrari or McLaren or Lambo. That makes it a super car.
This car would easily have a price tag of 200k + if Ferrari had made it. 160k isn’t cheap by any means but it’s probably 80 to 100k cheaper than other cars with its performance.
You won't be able to get this for below 200k

I think it would be unfair to compare the two. The Z06 with the Z07 package is around $150K to $160K. That is way less expensive than a GT3 RS and even less than a regular GT3. I think a good comparison would be the Z07 vs the standard GT3 with carbon ceramic brakes and the pdk transmission.

Great video. I watched a number of the C8 Z06 videos today, when the super car question arises. If the badge on the Z06 was the Ferrari, Lamborghini, or McClaren would we question whether or not it were a Supercar, just a question I wanted to pose.
There is a difference. The base c8 isn’t a supercar. The base huracan is a supercar.

What a fantastic car! My gut is telling me to go get one pronto! My head is telling me that it'd be a waste of car because you only drive on the street, using only 10% of the car capability, and you are not that rich to risk a $100-grand car and beat on it in a high risk environment, like a track. Who's right, my gut or my head? That's a tough one.
The 3LT leather still sloughs off the dashboard, just like my C7 3LT.
If you could put a price tag on happiness, i think this would be it. If I bought one today, I'd have it paid off in 30 years!!!

I’m quite impressed with the new Corvette. Sounds like GM didn’t get stupid and rush it to market before it was ready like they have done with several other cars.

The interior looks better than that of the Porsche, but how will the interior hold up? GM is known for bad plastics and under all those leather surfaces, is some kind of plastic or foam. Excellent review and congratulations to GM for doing this. Please make a NO EXCUSES ads to the wall light weight track version to beat the might GT3 RS. I double dog dare you GM.

I still wouldn’t call it a supercar because there is a base version that isn’t and the interior isn’t quite there, but it definitely seems like an incredible car. The engine finally matches the design.

Difficult to imagine what a would-be ZR1 model might be like after the Z06/7 - History would suggest forced induction, but that does not seem right or even possible on pump fuel for this highly strung, highly comped V8. I'm just going to guess then - a factory ZR1 stroker out to 5800cc - easy extra 30 horsies. Done.

What do you like better about the GT3 over the Z06, and why?
The GT3 needs less HP required to deliver better performance which makes a better track car. The weight of the C8 is unfortunate.
Gt3 feels lighter and more nimble, also it’s a bit more spacious inside. Very different sound profiles too.
The fact that Chevrolet engineers couldn't beat GT3 with over 170hp car on Nurburging that is based on a 2 seater car unlike GT3 4 seater based car shows how impressive GT3 is, also I driven/owned C8 + 991.2 GT3 the chassis tells big story, don't get fooled by "mid engine" term as C8 not really mid engine as it seems to be, I can go technical but it will be long comment if interested will tell you why to me C8 is not mid engine after driving it and asking engineer about it
@@TRX25EX how can it not be mid engined if by definition mid engine means the engine is between the axles lol. It certainly isn't front engined 🤣
@@EddieX ignore definition, as a driver I look at car feel, C8 have over 60% of it's weight on rear axle which is substantial for a mid engine car, usually it's around 56-58% in a mid engine supercar, even 911 which is rear engine is 61%, so to me C8 is more of rear engine car, the reason they done that is to get fast acceleration numbers for marketing reason, so a 60K car with 0-60 of under 3s is super good value........ But here comes the issues, they had to stretch wheelbase so long that only handful of sports/super cars are longer, infact I only know some Hypercars and maybe 918 (Hybrid) with longer wheelbase, all of this is straight line focus....... Hence C8 suffered from 2 issues when I drove it, understeer + uncontrollable oversteer, there's so much weight at the back and wheelbase way too long it snaps on oversteer.
Alot will say understeer can be fixed by alignment change as GM said so, but reality is every car can be improved like that so alignment is not the issue, there's drawbacks having these alignments hence not done from factory, the problem is what I mentioned.......
911 wheelbase is significantly shorter hence it's nimble + suspension tuning makes weight distribution super balanced in 911 with non GT variant can suffer from some understeer like C8 but it's still less and oversteer alot easier to control....
So C8 to me is more like rear engine car than actual mid engine, infact if you look at it properly it's like a dragster, in Z06 they managed to reduce understeer but mainly because of that gripy Cup 2R + track alignment on Z07 package
It sucks that the base model looks so cheap compared to the zo6. I Thought they were cool but I've seen about 20 on the road and they look goofy. The Z06 looks right.

Absolutely incredible car, Chevy really outdid themselves. I’d be interested to see how this feels compared to a GT4RS; the Z06 has 170 more horsepower, but it’s almost 900lbs heavier…
I think the 4RS will be more nimble but Z07 more capable and faster, just based on brute force, tires and downforce
@@EddieX Don't forget suspension. The GT4RS is a 4 wheel strut based suspension and it moves around A LOT near the limit, the Z06 is double wishbone front and rear AND has MRC which is superior to Porsche's PASM.
@@z06van21 not really, suspension tuning is different between them, Lotus uses double wishbone all around and one of most sophisticated engineers in suspension tuning yet didn't feel as good as GT4RS, so don't get fooled by specs alone
@@TRX25EX I'm not fooled at all. I have a 718 GT4 so I know how it acts. The GT4 RS suspension set-up is the same as the GT4, san spring rates and some PASM changes.
I got into my GT4 from a SS 1LE with MRC, and I will tell you now, MRC is SUPERIOR to PASM.
I gutted my GT4 suspension for MCS 2-way remote dampers because the GT4 got so unsettled on anything other than smooth roads.
The other issue with the GT4 & 4RS is the Cup 2 tires. The sidewalls are way too soft and also makes the car move around a lot. I swapped to GY SC3 tires with much stiffer sidewalls and it helped a lot.
Like a previous commenter said more nimble through turns but coming out of the turns and on the straights GT4RS won’t stand a chance

Bottom Line:
The car is under produced to create higher demand.
The car has a top end that is too slow for that price point, especially considering the base model is faster at 194.
After all that carbon fiber is added, it goes slower... no one but me finds that ridiculous?
If I get one, it will be the ZR1 or the Zora, but the idea of paying that price point plus dealer shaft add on price for a sub 200 mph car.
I'm extremely disappointed in the production failures.
Ferrari is looking more and more reasonable for the price offered.
I'm not paying 100k over msrp for this car. No hype will push me to that stupid decision

On what track
That's fake, it's a lap time conducted by road and track with GM help, hence other media said they weren't allowed to do a lap time test their own, hence Nurburging lap time wasn't published also, GM choose that track specifically to look good against GT3 which was done without Porsche interference in different day and conditions
I keep wanting to see the car, but the camera keeps most of its time on the driver instead. Is this about the car or the reviewer, I can't tell.

You actually have to think about if the zo6 is a super car? Put it up against any car you say is a super car and I bet it’ll beat it, just cuz it’s half or even less the price and made in America doesn’t make it not fit to be a super car
The definition of a "supercar" is not really an exact thing, there are lots of factors to consider. In terms of pure performance, yes it can match up with an upper echelon of exotics, but if performance was the only metric, there are some EVs that would also qualify that definition.

Eddie, just drove six cars at Exotic racing's track,, STO, GT3. GT2RS, Challenge Ferrari, GTR merk, and C8. Nice balance and sound on C8, but from that experience, would never buy C8,, too heavy feeling ( I own 992 GT3 ) Is the ZO6 lighter on it's feet an nimble than the C8? Is it leagues beyond the C8? thanks,, as I have one on order at list.

You’re comparing the Stingray to cars 2-3x the price point. I wouldn’t say the Z06 feels necessarily more light and nimble, it’s more brute force and higher limits. Carbon wheels are def a help but overall it’ll be more hefty compared to an STO or GT3. In terms of a well rounded extremely capable car for $150k…I love it.

As far as mid-engine goes, the new Z06 at 65/35 is the most rear weight biased car ever, so its a Rear Engine car. The C7 Z06 was a perfect mid-engine at 50/50. All marketing. Bad track performance.

are you talking about the paddle shifters? or the transmission selector? I assure you it is not "louder than the engine" and the interior of the C8 generation is quite nice and absolutely competitive with vehicles in a higher price segment.
