The 2023 C8 Corvette Z06 ($189,027 in Canada, $164,505 in the US) could be well described as a feat of American engineering, but how does it compete against the pinnacle of all-wheel drive speed from Japan? Today it’s up against a Nissan GT-R Nismo ($291,998 in Canada, $210,740 in the US) and a violently modified R34 GT-R that pushes over 1000 horsepower. It should not have been. With a sequential and a strain gauge like that one has. You want to snatch the lever and let go ASAP, as it detects the pull and cuts the ignition accordingly.
As you can see the driver was holding on and the entire car was bucking and shocking the drivetrain.

i’m actually surprised as to how well the R35 kept up with the C8 in the roll race. about 70 less bhp and weighs like 200 KG more. very impressive. also the shifts in that R34 were beyond insane

16+ years old and the Nissan GTR is still just as fast as todays cars.. shows how far ahead the GTR was in its prime. One car that will for sure go down in the automotive books as one of the best cars in history.

@@TheJosephayal Yes but the GTR has been the same exact R35 chassis for 16 years with nothing more than facelifts, and dashboard upgrades. While cars like the Corvette has already had TWO more generations of chassis improvements over the R35 Nissan.

Not really an accurate statement, thats a r35 nismo, not comparable to a regular r35, it's essentially a hea ily modified gtr and honestly for a fraction of the cost you can make MANY other cars faster

As much as people like to complain about the R35 being so old, it's insane that it still keeps up with today's supercars (the Z06 is no slouch at all). Absolutely legendary. That R34 looks hella scary too hahaha. Awesome races.
Edit: Can't believe how much of a debate/argument this comment has caused for such a long time. I'm not in any way saying anything negative about the Z06 or any other supercar. I'm also not talking about track performance, lap times, AWD, downforce, turbocharged vs NA, definitely not talking about looks and aesthetics, etc. The platform for the R35 GTR came out in 2007 which was over 15 years ago. The fact that that same platform with tuning and improvements over the years still manages to keep up (not beat, just keep up) with current sports cars, including some supercars is pretty incredible in my opinion. Also, I'm talking about the factory stock R35 Nimso. Not the modded R34 with 1000+ HP.

The Nissan GTR R35 is like Lebron James. Been in the game for a long time and still handing out the smoke to all the new cars coming into the scene or at least hanging with the competition. The fact that it still competes with a lot of modern cars just shows the test of time of how great this car is. Yeah it’s extremely overpriced now but it still throws it down against any competitors in its path. Great video overall!

Now that the E-Ray is out, the question is: what will power the ZR1? A Z06 engine with electric assist on the front axle or a Z06 engine with a cross-plane crankshaft and twin turbos or a supercharger.
It’s crazy to think that when the R35 came out, Chevrolet was launching the C6 ZR1 and the R35 will likely see the C8 ZR1 reach dealerships.

Zr1 power train is already leaked. TT 5.5L 800-850hp. Zora is same thing but with a ev motor for the front axle making 900+ maybe a 1000. Probably gonna cost like 200+ msrp though.

Can't wait for the new C8 E-ray drag race .. it's technically an AWD car with a mind-blowing 2.5sec. 0-60. Corvette are really doing a great job with the new platform!
On paper it should be about the same as the Z06. But the *Zora* is going to be a god damn monster.
Electric torque, plus EV traction control is far superior to ICE traction control, that’s why they launch so good, even in bad weather.

Z06 runs 10.5 but traps higher, this all depends on which tires. Eray with zer pkg has Michelin ps4s tires same as a Z06 without z07, it adds fe4 suspension and opens the carbon fiber wheel option. Z07 with cup2r track tires and aero has a lot of drag. I'm taking the Z06 myself. Maybe a grand sport will still be released. Zr1 should be faster

I was wondering why that R34 looked so familiar, I've seen it in person. It used to have a Z-tune style hood with a hood dump instead of the side exit. Pretty cool to see it in a video

The C8 outperforms every prior model of Corvette. It is a 100% improvement in performance, fit and finish and quality material.

A part of my question has been answered. Now I want to see the GT-R vs. Z06 on a track. My money is always on Godzilla.
Well, considering the ZL1 1LE (both manual and auto), C7 Grand Sport, C7 Z06, and C8 Stingray Z51 are all quicker around C&D's lightning lap. That's against the 2015 GT-R Nismo by the way. I'm assuming the C8 Z06 will also be quicker than the GT-R Nismo. Granted it would be interesting to see if the updated 2024 GT-R Nismo will at least be on par with the C7 Z06 which is about 5 secs quicker than the GT-R Nismo.

Now I wonder how the recently unveiled E-Ray will do against the Z06 and the GT-R. The E-Ray has similar acceleration to the Z06. But it has AWD and weighs around the same weight as the GT-R. So it would be interesting to see how well the E-Ray will do against these two cars.
Depends on the surface. On the prepped drag strips, the Z06 will be the fastest of the 3. On an airstrip attack such as this, the Eray will take the win

Well, Chevy probably uses the same surface for all the times that they publish. So the E-Ray and the Z06 both were published with the same quarter-mile time. By the sounds of things, Chevy published the E-Ray with all seasons. This could mean that the optional summer tires could improve that time even more.
E ray does the quarter in 10.5 so it’d be faster then both from a dig. I suspect tho from a roll the e rays battery’s faster you go obv will be less effective so considering the gtr was this close to the z06 it’ll prolly beat an e ray from a roll but definitely not a dig. Z06 would lose on a dig but go right past on a roll I expect

Well, I remember Chevy publishing the Z06 with the Z07 at 10.4 secs at 131 mph. But that's on their testing. I have seen no mention of the trap speed on the E-Rays 10.5-sec quarter-mile. I'd imagine it being slightly slower than the Z06 w/Z07 running around 130 to 129 mph as the E-Rays trap speed. This is my assumption because the 0 to 60 for the E-Ray is 2.5 secs. Whereas the Z06 is 2.6 for the 0 to 60. But by the end of the quarter, the Z06 w/Z07 takes it by a 10th. So you are right about the Z06 having a better roll than the E-Ray. But the Z06 does seem to have the potential to be quicker and faster than the E-Ray when everything has been met. But consistently the E-Ray will be the quicker car.
That "extra spicy" on the R34 specs made me giggle!😂

im decently surprised with how the nismo kept up tbh alot of its tech (mainly the engine) is nearly a decade old with 70 less bhp and being a bit heaver it held up pretty well against the c8

Almost every new car you can buy in the 100k range is going to be an epic driving experience. GTR Z06 GT4RS GT500 CT5V everything is just so good, you can actually just be a car person and not have to pick a favorite because they are all so so good.

Z06 achilles heel is being NA. It only makes advertised horsepower at low elevation. When elevation is raised like at Willow Springs, it makes way less horsepower.

I’d like to see how the new E Ray stacks up to an R35.
Do keep in mind that Willow Springs is 1/2 mile above sea level, which means the Vette is down about 10% hp due to lower atmospheric pressure. Price of being NA, but the results at sea level would have shifted in its favor quite a bit.
Good but useless point if you drive it above sea level. It would have lost the second race at a little higher altitude then.
The gtr would have more power at sea level as well
