      Would it be possible to have another session about the pedagogy and education of our children as parents? We were born in Europe. We got married and now we have children. Unlike our parents, we have this double culture which is both an advantage and a disadvantage. We are faced with new challenges every day, particularly concerning the education of our children. If Sheikh Abdul Hakim Mourad could give us some leads and advice on this subject, it would be very beneficial to us.

    I'm must be the only Muslim who connects with nature where I live. All other Muslims where I live are so concerned about making money or what possessions they have. The salat has become more automatonic for some than a act of connectivness with the Divine. Taking a walk in the country side or a bike ride reciting the Recitation in the presence of nature(and subsequently the Divine)is good for the heart and soul

    Great show/programme.Thanks. Further enhances my knowledge of Islam with Jewish and Christian roots - learning started in 2009 following Chis Hewer's evening classes - Understanding Islam in a church hall in London. Abdal Murad/Tim Winter was made known also via Blogging Theology/Paul Williams. He is very good in his presentation. I like his concept of Islam adapting to England and English culture. Thus confirming the universality of Islam cf Catholic nature of Christianity. His elucidation and lessons of extremes of Islam and Spanish Inquisition, etc is coming out clearly. God bless him. He is an ambassador for Islam. He has been to the Vatican. Thus the message of Pope Francis ? - Fratelli Tutti - On Fraternity and Social Friendship (of humanity). Good Dawah work is good. PS: Also see Ingrid Mattson's (from London, Ontario, Canada) lectures.

    About Professor Javed Ahmed Ghamidi, he can be right or wrong but his level of tolerance and morals are commendable and example for every scholar of this era and should follow suit, I not only believe that there is no scholar of his stature profundity of religious thought and precision of its understanding and lucidity of his articulation in the Muslim word, but I also believe that I have yet to see anybody more profound just and humane than Professor Javed Ahmed Ghamidi sahib, when it comes to commentary on social issues including human rights. I met a Ratheyon employee in a local park last year who told me in detail how 9/11 was an inside job. It was a surreal experience. Like Matrix. He was in charge of painting the planes (PODs) not knowing that they were going to be used in that "exercise" ... insane. He said he threw up when he recognised the planes he painted on Tv a few months later ... and demanded an early retirement from the military. .. Anyway, why is the interviewer absentminded?

    A point that needs to be stressed is that Islam is a 'universal' message. Sadly , the cultural baggage it carries does not help to reveal this most important aspect of our Religion .Its Universality . There is no such thing as Muslim attire for both men and women. Modesty and public decency are the requisites and are applicable to any society in whatever time .
    I condone the idea that Muslim Information Centers and Mosques should be run ONLY by those who are from the community where they are set up . The local Muslim converts understand the people better and are informed of the history and culture of the place . Importing Muslim 'clerics' from the Middle East or Elsewhere may alienate would be converts and those who simply frequent centers in search of information about Islam .

      The point is that the Shaykh should altogether avoid discussing race or local artistic expressions since he immediately falls into error. Furthermore, it is the bad habit of a colonial mind-set to focus so much on dividing Muslims from each other along racial or ethnic lines.

      @@wafaabdullah2172 Hi Wafa, however, the colonial mind-set is very hard to remove if you belong to the colonizer group. Having said that there are good examples of white British converts who do not accept the mind-set and implicit bias of having been a colonial power. I can think of the likes of converts like Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall who would never dare think, let alone utter, such illogical ideas about races and ethnic minorities. Hakim is not necessarily a good example of what a convert should be saying.

      I understand that you want to voice what your beliefs are, I have read some of your replies from other comments, but I believe you need to personally meet the shaykh because your points are not really insightful as you are simply just reacting to something the shaykh has said or mentioned but if you raised some of your issues up with him he would explain the narrative and thinking behind what he meant personally against what you are assuming he means. You don't need to criticize just simply agree or disagree with what you want to do and first and foremost we should look for criticisms in ourselves first before trying to pinpoint somebody else's, But I do understand what you mean mate. 👍

Perhaps, in hindsight, he should not have ventured into the politics of race since he is obviously very much out of touch.

  • @wafaabdullah2172

    Thank you David. Shaykh Hakim plays on his own very peculiar perception of the 'vulnerability' of an ethnic minority person. Hakim's assumption is that being from minority (with distinct racial/religious characteristics) places you in a disadvantageous position vis-a-vis the majority. This crude reduction makes it easy for Hakim to bash minorities or to suggest that they have failed to 'integrate' with local traditions and norms whilst failing himself to put his finger on which 'local traditions' the poor minorities should adopt.

    • @DavidSmith-zl2ww
      @DavidSmith-zl2ww 2 роки тому +1

      Thanks Wafa - Well, going to the pub is a local tradition but I very much doubt that Hakim would want his followers to do that since Alcohol is forbidden. He could suggest going to football matches, playing cricket or ensuring that they adopt afternoon tea ceremonies with cake but these are social rather than cultural practices. As for religion, he could try to make Imams resemble English parish vicars without the dog collar but again this would fail as any lay Muslim can function as an Imam ( unless you are a believer in Imamology like the Shi'a). However crude and simplistic Hakim's stereotypes are they are wholly compatible with the darkened xenophobia of Brexit. We can only hope for a much needed return to the cosmopolitan outlook of our more enlightened ancestors (before Brexit) who respected Enlightenment ideals. One only needs to look at the lives of many eminent non-racist Brits like Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall to see exactly how far Hakim has fallen.

    When I watched him describe 9/11 as a "Middle East temper tantrum" I knew that Hakim had again fallen into error. Blaming the entire Middle East for 9/11 is not only racist but this highlights his bad habit of making sweeping generalisations about groups who are "Other" than white or British. He identifies problems in other Muslim ethnic minority communities like Arabs Turks Moroccans but not his own. Hakim suggests that ethnic minority Muslims should simply drop their ethnicity in order to "fit in" - this seems to be exactly what the far right racists have always wanted.

    • @DavidSmith-zl2ww
      @DavidSmith-zl2ww 2 роки тому +2

      @M Ahmed Indeed, there is nothing jarring or ugly about these Eastern architectural forms even when pitched against a typically British or English landscape. It simply adds colour, form and vibrancy in most instances. Hakim's jaundiced, highly personal and somewhat tired observations are not surprising given the deviance of Brexit thinking which is intent on destroying the cosmopolitan outlook of our Universities. I doubt very much that many eminent and truly noble English scholarly converts such as Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall and others would ever dare to think, let alone actually utter such trivializing comments about Muslim communities in the manner with which Hakim has for so long gotten away. Being 'Muslim' does not excuse him from much needed criticism for his racialized journalistic diatribe (and very crude stereotyping) which he almost always prefers over and above real academic discernment. The same argument is applicable to Russian Orthodox Churches and Hindu temples which are exquisitely beautiful set against a dreary English backdrop. This does not, however, mean that there is nothing intrinsically beautiful about classical English artistic forms; only that Hakim is not the person to put his finger on what they are and, due to his incessantly sloppy thinking, probably will never be in a position to fully understand or contemplate. Unfortunately, as a 'great scholar' he is shockingly inarticulate, as is clear from his many ill-chosen self-promoting videos on UA-cam.
