Survivor sucks anymore. This was before Hollyweird stepped in and took the show over. We were glued to the tv every Thursday night to watch some survivor.

For the longest time I supported Kelly, because she wasn’t trying to be sneaky, at least it didn’t look like it. But at the end here I was rooting for Rich; yeah Rich was a snake, but he KNEW that. He didn’t pretend to be nice, he knew at times he played dirty, but he worked hard and smart. Kelly played both sides of the field and screwed over a lot of people, and when it came down to it, she played innocent. She pretended to be doing what she thought was right but it was obvious she knew what she was doing. I’d rather have Rich’s blunt gameplay over Kelly’s “playing the victim” strategy
Same here. All season long, I wanted Kelly to win it. But when it came down to the final couple of episodes, I changed my mind to Rich. Still glad she at least got the runner-up prize, though.
Darkk_est Kind of, the modern game of Survivor doesn’t really start until The Amazon with Rob Cesternino. However Rich winning Survivor gets rid of the notion that the person who is the most capable of surviving deserves to win (Gretchen). If Kelly won instead, Survivor probably wouldn’t be on the air.
Very ironic moment in Survivor! They flash back frequently to the moment Richard won. He set the stage for every winning sucessor. I liked him and was a good leader and memorable.
Survivor 1 truly had a cast of all stars....The most beloved player ever in Rudy, the greatest/ smartest player in Rich, most entertaining player in Greg, and the most hated player in Sue. Plus they had the second most hated player in Staci....but thankfully she was voted off early.
You can’t play survivor or know what it is about without watching this first season. It’s totally different from the other 43 season that have been aired over the years. Even Australia, the season that followed, was totally different. People knew it was a game and what they had to do to win.

I respect Kelly for keeping it real. She wasn’t gonna hug sue after sue took it too far by saying she wouldn’t give her water if she was dying of thirst. And sue was fake as hell standing around waiting for a hug after saying that garbage. It went beyond the scope of the game and she brought into real life.
He never refused, he was actually the one who went to the IRS saying he was having tax troubles and they did a triangle of trust, Hatch literally wanted to pay them, then they illegally changed it, framed him and boom. Prison
I just got into the show after all these years. I’m starting season 5 next and I have to say Rich is still my favorite contestant from the show so far. We’ll see how long that goes on for.

Am I the only one that felt like Kelly would have won if it wasn't for the speech. She clearly was the most deserving. She genuinely cared about the contestants the most, but the dilemma she faced was that she put herself in an alliance early on and wasn't allowed to stray from it. Even when Kelly attempted to branch out to other members such as Jenna and Colleen she got flack from it from Sue and Richard. She was 22 for crying out loud at that age you just want to fit in and make friends. Rich and Sue were the ones who were manipulative and Sue was so salty about it, I knew from the start she was cutthroat but DAMN.....that speech was messed up! It portrayed Kelly as something she wasn't! Even Sue attempted to sue Richard a few years after, just goes to show you the type of person she is!
(Not-So) Fun Fact: Richard was originally supposed to be a returning contestant for Winners At War, but was removed from the final cast as Jeff and the producers feared that him going naked (just like what he did in All-Stars) would not fit well with the modern audience, especially following a similar incident with Dan in Island Of The Idols

Hatch should've been on Winners At War. I don't care about the whole Dan situation behind it, not having the FIRST winner ever on Winners At War was one of the biggest fuck-ups and missed opportunities the producers have ever done. Such a travesty and such a disappointment. :(
The thing is, at the Final 4 they actually didn't have a tiebreaker planned, so they would have kept re-voting until Kelly or Rudy changed their minds. And Rudy was flat out NEVER going to switch his vote.
@svin In the Official Survivor Borneo DVD commentary, Jeff Probst himself mentions during the Final 4 Tribal Council part that they didn't have a tiebreaker planned and that he and Mark Burnett were trying to figure out what to do.

The thing is, at the Final 4 they actually didn't have a tiebreaker planned, so they would have kept re-voting until Kelly or Rudy changed their minds. And Rudy was flat out NEVER going to switch his vote.
@svin In the Official Survivor Borneo DVD commentary, Jeff Probst himself mentions during the Final 4 Tribal Council part that they didn't have a tiebreaker planned and that he and Mark Burnett were trying to figure out what to do.
Anyone notice how flat and unemotional Jeff sounds when he reads the votes, he is way more excited in the newer seasons
