- A couple of Water Rescue team members of the Buxton Mountain Rescue Team, talk through the Inflatable Raft the team uses when a water rescue is necessary.
The water rescue team is made up of Swift Water Rescue Technicians (SRTs) which are UK DEFRA Mod 3 qualified and Water First Responders which are UK DEFRA Module 2 qualified. Both qualifications require extensive training and assessment for the initial qualification. Ongoing training and recerfification is required to maintain the qualification.

Amazing video. Thank you for showing us how you work and thank you for saving citizens!
Thanks Eni
Great video👍 I would have thought the raft would have been hard inflated and stored on the roof on a roof rack but it's all about saving space and you have the extra time to inflate the raft anyways👍
Yes, space is the issue. If we had some warning, for example in a flood situation with a bit more time, we might inflate and carry on the roof. If we deploy with the Fire Service we can also use their compressed air cylinders which is quicker. On most rescue jobs we have plenty of people available so people power for pumping is not an issue!
id like to be in mountain rescue or search and rescue
Great, if you google search and rescue in your local area you should be able to find a team to join. Good luck.
why do mountain rescue need a water kit obviousley the fire service could to those rescue's
Hi Zaydan, thanks for the question. The Fire Service are on immediate call and do water rescues which require a quick response. Mountain Rescue do water searching and flood operations including water rescue. Our service complements the Fire Service.
