OK so this is what I’m gonna do. I will come back on the next video that you upload listening to the same song with a full pair headphones in each of your ears. TOOL uses the stereo field to it’s up most potential and if you’re not wearing a right and a left you missed out on a lot. I’m going to quietly back away from this bizarre alternate reality.🖐🏼😯🖐🏼 I will see you in the new TOOL “The Pot” video😉🎧🎧👍
The song is to their lawyer that was supposed to defend them, but decided to sue them for the same thing their former friend and cover art contributor did. They both lost, and we finally got a new album. The suit was a large portion of the delay
Tool songs are usually pretty deep, most times it takes me a couple listens to fully respect the meaning of the lyrics and the instrumentation as well. suggest trying lyric videos for *right in two* or *46&2* or *Lateralus* by Tool. If you're not into that kind of music you may not feel them, but when you take everything in that they offer it's a unique experience compared to any other bands. All depends on what you can feel. 🤘🤯🤘
if you really get into tool ..you listen closely to the lyrics , you will EXPERIENCE TOOL ..not just listen to them ..they are very clever and their lyrics make you think ..deeeeep meanings ..they open your mind to things you would really think you much about ..Plus they fucking Rock ! the sound of sweet and deep obscurity ..i love it
I can't even watch this until you each get headphones. You'll miss half of the music. It's like watching a German movie without subtitles, you just won't get it.
Tool songs usually have multiple meanings behind their lyrics and are also about self reflection to better ourselves and how we treat one another. This song in particular I feel talks about how we judge one another. "black kettle", "eye holes deep in muddy waters". He also mentions Kangaroo courts where you try someone without substantiated evidence and assuming they are already guilty.
Like other people commented, the song is about hypocrisy. Like the pot calling the kettle black. Pot also has a double meaning as he's talking about the smokable kind at the same time. "kangaroo done hung the guilty with the innocent"-- This is in reference to a kangaroo court, which is a trial that isn't conducted in a lawful manner. It's about prejudice and making up your mind about someone without bothering to have all the evidence. It's another thing that hypocrites tend to do.
This song is about society's hypocritical view of the drug culture. We're so quick to judge/condemn drug users (pot etc) but we have to have our caffeine, nicotene, sugar, etc... all of it's addictive. As with all Tool songs, there's tons of double entendre and in this one, there's lots of colloquialism, too. Pot calling the kettle black. Kangaroo courts...
Aint got nothing to do with the view of drug culture. If that is what you took from it then ok, but seeing as how Maynard doesnt indulge in drugs, even pot, then I highly doubt he's trying to say society's view on drug users is misinformed. It is though about being a hypocrite, in whatever form that may take. People waving fingers to say you are doing wrong when they also do wrong things in their life. Lawyers supposedly being about the truth when it ultimately comes down to who can win regardless of right or wrong. Hypocrisy in general is what he has a problem with.
@@seanmccall6484 Maynard doesn't do any drugs anymore, he had a psychadelics period. he never used drugs to be cool or whatever. The refferences to Pot arevery clear, there's even a clear reference to ganja (which is another name for pot). It IS about the hypocrisy of the response drug culture. He's not even slightly promoting using drugs, but he is pointing out the extreme hypocrisy in response to drugs in a lot of societies. And the several layers of it. The fact that many of the people who condemn illegal drugs are often taking legal drugs. The fact that many in power get away with drug offenses, whereas the less well off get heavy punishment for those same offenses. The whole system is riddled with hypocrisy, and I see no discrepancy in pointing out the hypocrisy in society on this subject without consequently promoting the use of drugs, those are two separate issues
@@Sense008 I would disagree. Honestly, it sounds like he's talking about being involved in a civil suit of some sort. Every reference is about lawyers being liars, and kangaroo courts being ridiculous. I feel like he's saying to a lawyer, or someone in a similar role, you must be high to judge me when you yourself are corrupt. I dont feel he's talking about drug culture at all, he's simply saying to someone in this song you must be on drugs to think you can judge me. But it is what it is. That's what I take from it, you take something different, and I dont think you must be high to feel that way. See what I did there? :D

It is almost sickening how thorough Tool is and may as well add Perfect Circle to it (Maynard James Keenan's other band) - musically and lyrically tight. In my mind these are some of the best musicians around right now. The Pot feels like a big middle finger to the establishment - ain't mad at them. Well done 🥰
The pot is a song about hypocrisy (note the use of pot and the black kettle and the old addage of the pot calling the kettle black). it also references hypocrisy in the government, and running kangaroo trials against drug users saying "kangaroo done hung the guilty with the innocent" (kangaroo trials are like fake trials where they already know the outcome of the trial, making the trial like a public dance as oppposed to having the defendent actually present their case and properly defend themselves). The song says they must've been out of their minds, calling them high shedding tears of cozened indigo; indigo because they're high, cozened because they're fake tears. The lyrics follow that up with Lemon juice in the eye as if to help them fake their tears.
this whole song is about hypocrisy and fakeness.. all the references are about it... "weeping shades of cozened indigo" cozened means fake, fabrication.. indigo is a shade of blue (sorrow).. so weeping fake tears of sorrow
Agreed with most, you need your own set of headphones to listen to Tool, along with lyric videos to try and understand what they are talking about. Keep em coming!

Every song is great by them... you can't even put into words. They are very unique check out anything from them lol and I promise you will not be disappointed
TOOL is one of the greatest bands of ALL TIME in my humble opinion. Their response cracked me up. Maynard James Keenan (singer of Tool) knows exactly how to make ones mind emplode cz of the utter genius level of skills with writing song lyrics and to make shit even MORE phenomenal, he has the vocal cords so f'n versatile - long amazing winded outright screams down to the gentlest almost angelic like skill of sound. I know that probably sounds really dumb the way I explain it but I honestly CANT truly explain how amazing the 4 guys in this band really are.
I would like to let y'all know that 0:33 for some reason my crazy ass phone switched to somebody else reacting to this song but I had no hesitation coming back to y'all right away, because sharing headphones is a universal language of struggle. Even IF you have the connector to give you both 2 earbuds, you still might be in the car on the way to the beach and not like your friends music. Or maybe their volume isn't up loud enough. 😂 Y'all got a new subscriber. Idk man even though he had his own that piece of realness about shared headphones is incredible and I really related. 😘 (Kiss to miss lady)
It is confirmed to be about hypocrisy and is a double standard, that refers to both drug intoxication and believing oneself to be above others, deriving from the phrase "pot calling the kettle black.
Y’all are going to catch some heat for sharing headphones for a Tool song. Haha. Great Reaction. I don’t know who this song is directed at. The song is a bunch of sayings, idioms, and proverbs, though. Wave your finger, muddy the waters, raise the dead, rob the cradle, on your soapbox, house of cards, throwing stones from a glass house, foot in mouth, dance around the subject, kangaroo court, hung jury, you only have a pot to piss in, the pot calling the kettle black, etc.
New to your channel but love it. Aenima and a few other tool songs have been in my playlist for years (loved the aenima reaction). I've heard this song before but never really understood what the lyrics were and I never paid much attention to it so I'm reacting right along with you. Awesome song. I would love to see a reaction to black sabbath's "a national acrobat". Wierd name for a song but it's dope. If you're interested, you should also look into some megadeth songs. I'm a huge fan of them and it's always fun seeing people's reaction to them because they are a different sounding band. I would recommend "looking down the cross" by them or "the conjuring". You would probably like the band static x also. I would recommend "I'm with stupid" or "destroyer". As you can probably tell, music is really important to me and I love seeing new people's reactions to songs I've heard a thousand times. Alright, im done with my drunken ramblings. Stay safe, and enjoy the music.
The band was sued by a member of the management staff and during the lawsuit there was a claim that the band members were constantly high and unreliable. The band claims this member was removed due to having a drug issue also. The lawsuit was latter dropped due to lack of any evidence and Maynard was free to write a song about the hypocrisy of people close to the band. This is not the first time the band has sued and also wasn’t the last they were sued after 10,000 days was released by a artist who claimed to own the rights to Alex greys artwork that was used on the album. That law suit was thrown out before it even made it too court
You youngsters need to remember that this came out many years ago. You guys are great I enjoy your reactions they're awesome!! Don't think it's something new.
Danny Carey the drummer of Tool was sentenced to jail by a judge for pot possession and months later this same judge was given a slap on the wrist for the same offense.
According to Adam Jones, it is confirmed to be about hypocrisy and is a double entendre that refers to both drug intoxication and believing oneself to be above others, deriving from the phrase "the pot calling the kettle black". en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Pot
Nice and honest reaction. I would dig a little deeper into this song and just Tool in general. There’s a lot of meat left on this bone you guys missed. These guys are brilliant and you’ll see that once you get your ears adjusted to their music.
Hi. This song can be taken however you want; my take on it is different sides of politics, and how biased they are...hypocrites on both sides. "Kangaroo jury", "faulting the innocent". I was very liberal for most of my life. I am more conservative now but it has nothing to do with race. Thank you for giving this song more publicity, because it applies to both sides of the political equation. FYI...check out Sophia Urista's version of this song. She is an amazing female black singer. I'm a 52 year old white woman, and a retired musician....she is pure greatness. Peace and love.
YO - D&T SQUAD!! Did you ever see the response in the comments to the meaning of the song??? It about 4 or 5 comments down man. You guys MUST READ! TOOL is extremely clever with their song lyrics. Always have been. It's part of their charm.
It's poetry, and leaves a lot for the listener. Kangaroo court is a court that is pre decided on guilt. It's all about hypocrisy. When you piss on my black kettle is reference to the old saying that we all should know (The Pot calling the kettle black). Thanks for the review.
The word "kangaroo" speaks to the concept of an unfair and corrupt court... This song to me is speaking about an unfair Justice system. From the lowly cop in a small town to the upper echelon FBI agent. The fact is they more often than not BREAK the law to ENFORCE the law..... JMO
From what I heard this song is a diss track towards Led Zeplin for calling out other bands about stealing shit. According to reddit detectives (so take with a grain of salt) they were sued by the artist Muddy Waters back in the day, and the Lemon Juice is in reference to a song they stole from and also got sued for. A lot of the other shit was supposedly also referencing shit they stole, so he's calling them out for being hypocrites.
This song is about the drug culture in America. Everybody does it... the difference is people like Maynard admit it while police and government officials do it then accuse everybody else of it and pretend like they don't. He uses a lot of metaphors, such as "Pot calling the kettle black," hence the song name "The Pot." Maynard is the black kettle and the police/government are the pot.
Good pick, their arrangements are amazing. Take it for granted sometimes because we're used them to always coming up with amazing sounds. I don't analyze his lyrics much other than what pictutes they paint for me. Peace!
Talking about hypocrisy. The reference to the black kettle (the pot calling the kettle black). Throwing stones from your glass house. Pretty deep. Saying Don't point you're finger at me when you're up to your eyeballs in mud. Take a look in the mirror. Lemon juice in their eyes makes them red and teary, fake crying to put on a show. Kangaroo court refers to going into court and putting on a show but having nothing to say, just trying to get the court of public opinion on their side basically.
As a long Tool fan This is for the BS the government system is. Maynard is gold. Discover Tool. Listen. Learn. The drummer is a beast. And Maynard gives zero fucks.
Oh guys guys .. . you can not listen to tool on them little bitty earbuds! omg! .... The song is basically about the saying "You're the pot calling the kettle black" he makes references to the court system and lawyers. The eyes deep in muddy waters means that you are as dirty as they get. The part about "you must have got lemon in your eye" is the when people show fake emotion (shedding fake tears) (at least that's my interpretation ) "Who are you to judge me? You are as dirty as they come"
It’s a song about hypocrisy. It’s about that MF’er who’s always talking about what’s wrong with your life, while they’re “eyeballs deep” in their own sh:t. “The weeping shades of indigo” part is just a fancy way of saying the person (or persons) the song is about is crying now, but those tears are in vain because they’re only crying because they got called out. Think of someone in your life who puts you down only to make themselves feel better, but who never sees their own flaws. I think it was inspired by their lawyer, but it could be your parents, an ex, or maybe even a congresswoman at a musical.
He feels it. She needs the other bud to get it I think. I like that they play it all the way through. Can lose the emotion, feel etc when you pause. So from an old dude who's SOMEHOW gotten sucked into watching everyone else react to Tool, this is a good one IMO. ✌️💜🤘
Actually this song is about chief black kettle of the Cherokee tribe . It’s how religion will take your money (the pot) and judge … and hold accountable. It’s for native Americans.
2 things: 1-we are sick of fake tool reactions....u dont seem to be one of them. For now. Cool. 2-buy a splitter so you can get the full breadth of the music,. 3-get 2 decent sets of headphones, you will be amazed at how different these songs sound. Luv yas, harsh but true luv, allthe way from australia.
So this song is all about hypocrisy in our system. I saw that you guys didn't really get the point when the video was over but it's actually pretty simple. Maynard (the singer) was incarcerated for possession of the good herb, and he was treated like a death row inmate, receiving the maximum penalty for having less than a gram on him, and he dealt with months of jury duty & other bullshit, and this song is just an intricate and very intellectual reaction to the Arizona legal system; a very coy way of saying fuck you without using profanity or incriminating lyrics. Also, there are references to the concept of a "Kangaroo Court", a jesus-like situation in which the verdict is decided regardless of the jury's decision, "Guilty hung with the innocent".
Thank you for explaining. You know what I have always thought that was insane how someone with drugs get charger more & I seen people get sentenced to life... But someone murder get a few years and then they are out 🤔
Muddy Waters father of Blues? Cmon people dont forget about the OG talent. Eye hole deep in Muddy Waters.Hes being literal here, it also can have double meaning. Its about bands stealing from Muddy Waters along with Tools own struggles against the industry.
Keep going...alot of 'stories' in Tool music...go to the beginning.. Important songs on each album.. Then you can see progression of the band and their music...
Let’s put it this way, the song is calling out someone that would condemn another for doing something normal like say someone says that “rap doesn’t take skill, it’s just a bunch of words said fast by wanna be thugs and the music sucks if you can even call that crap music.” Yet you then catch them listening to Rage Against The Machine Bulls On Parade where the vocalist is literal rapping rapping and the only real difference is the instruments used to make the instrumental part of the song. They act like they are the almighty authority on something but they even partake in doing something the same thing they put someone else down for doing because of the version the other person likes isn’t what they like. It’s a song saying you do shit of a similar nature act like you don’t, go out of your way to cover up the truth that you do this thing you say you don’t do, condemn me for it and when you get caught and called out you still lie. Who the fuck are you to wave your finger at me in protest? You say no one is allowed to do this and yet you do what you tell others they aren’t allowed to do. Who died and made you fucking King? What the fuck are you on? You must be on something for the stupid shit that’s coming out of your mouth. If you hadn’t be irritating me constantly with your unwanted opinion I would say shit but now I’m pissed and you asked for it so here it is mother fucker! Who are you to wave your finger? You must have been outta your head. Eye hole deep in muddy water, your practically raised the dead. That’s what the song is about. If someone constantly harassed you with their condemning opinion on something you do then do it as well their a hypocrite that has warranted this confrontational reaction.

Thank you for sharing full watch always, it was very cool
Nice and honest reaction. I would dig a little deeper into this song and just Tool in general. There’s a lot of meat left on this bone you guys missed. These guys are brilliant and you’ll see that once you get your ears adjusted to their music.
Thank you! Yes we definitely have to listen and really understand their music. But I'm always into learning new music
Who got the drums version and who got the guitar version?
It's not raining. Sunshine through the window!
Did you hear that BASS Though? The DRUMS??? Whoa!!!!
Thank you checking our channel out and for information. We will check her out
Eyeballs deep in muddy waters. You've got lemon juice in your eyes.
You’ve literally missed The musicality of the song with one ear bud... come on y’all, you’re not giving the song proper respect.
Love yall!!! Thank you!!!
Love you yoo! Tfw
Sharing ear buds to review tool? Fired!
YO - D&T SQUAD!! Did you ever see the response in the comments to the meaning of the song??? It about 4 or 5 comments down man. You guys MUST READ! TOOL is extremely clever with their song lyrics. Always have been. It's part of their charm.
😎 we rock stars dipset dipset
It's about arrogance, self centeredness, being to full of yourself to the point you dont think you should responsible for your actions..
It's poetry, and leaves a lot for the listener. Kangaroo court is a court that is pre decided on guilt. It's all about hypocrisy. When you piss on my black kettle is reference to the old saying that we all should know (The Pot calling the kettle black). Thanks for the review.
Thank you as well
Tool Army here 🤘 aww man you are missing the whole experience get your earphones
Headphones, volume, & bass booster are essential for TOOL.
I appreciate u!
Thank you
They in the car. I ain't going to the car, it's raining. Nodding as I sip my beer.
I believe he’s talking about people judging others for things they do themselves...whether it be private or government.
Anything by Tool never disappoints great reaction videos as usual 👍.... check out Tool - no quarter
You will only hear 1/2 the greatness
calling out hypocrites took my 10,000 days to figure this out.
Great reaction
Thank you
This song is so powerful
do every tool song.. you are the perfect set....you need it... and we need you to do it.
Ok we will add it to our list
Tool - sober reaction
This song is about the drug culture in America. Everybody does it... the difference is people like Maynard admit it while police and government officials do it then accuse everybody else of it and pretend like they don't. He uses a lot of metaphors, such as "Pot calling the kettle black," hence the song name "The Pot." Maynard is the black kettle and the police/government are the pot.
Good pick, their arrangements are amazing. Take it for granted sometimes because we're used them to always coming up with amazing sounds. I don't analyze his lyrics much other than what pictutes they paint for me. Peace!
step 1 only listen to tool with both ears. step 2, the songs are about whatever you think they apply to. Step 3, enjoy.
Think about this saying. "The Pot calling the Kettle Black." In other words this is a song about being a hypocritical judge of other people...
As a long Tool fan
This is for the BS the government system is.
Maynard is gold.
Discover Tool. Listen. Learn. The drummer is a beast. And Maynard gives zero fucks.
THR BEST BAND EVER
☝️Before it was called rock and roll it was called rhythm and blues
Oh guys guys .. . you can not listen to tool on them little bitty earbuds! omg! .... The song is basically about the saying "You're the pot calling the kettle black" he makes references to the court system and lawyers. The eyes deep in muddy waters means that you are as dirty as they get. The part about "you must have got lemon in your eye" is the when people show fake emotion (shedding fake tears) (at least that's my interpretation ) "Who are you to judge me? You are as dirty as they come"
I wonder how it's possible to hear a song like this one and not moving your head at all!!! You might not like music!!
We love music but when we first listen to a new artist we focus more on the lyrics and try to understand what the song is about
Lyric videos are distracting. That's the downside. I like to read lyrics when I'm not listening afterwards
I think it was inspired by their lawyer, but
it could be your parents, an ex, or maybe even a congresswoman at a musical.
He feels it. She needs the other bud to get it I think.
I like that they play it all the way through. Can lose the emotion, feel etc when you pause. So from an old dude who's SOMEHOW gotten sucked into watching everyone else react to Tool, this is a good one IMO. ✌️💜🤘
I definitely again about needed the other bud. Thank you for watching
Actually this song is about chief black kettle of the Cherokee tribe . It’s how religion will take your money (the pot) and judge … and hold accountable. It’s for native Americans.
Oh... ok thanks for actual meaning behind the song
He's talking about being high but also how the courts treat people
Seriously...Listen to 👁TOOL👁 with high quality sound. Great song...Good reaction video! My man was getting into it....That's awesome💪🔥💪
Yes we really do try to really listen to what the artists are saying. Thank you
I say the same thing. This is Tool's new song. I'm in denial though as it's 13 years old.
Tool is a band that you need to look at their background
Tool = A perfect circle = Puscifer... if you dont know .... then you are missing so much.
2 things:
1-we are sick of fake tool reactions....u dont seem to be one of them. For now. Cool.
2-buy a splitter so you can get the full breadth of the music,.
3-get 2 decent sets of headphones, you will be amazed at how different these songs sound.
Luv yas, harsh but true luv, allthe way from australia.
Thank you theres no need for fake reactions lol I dont think that's exciting. We have one
It's in legalese 100%. A critique of the legal/lawmaking system as whole
Sharing headphones while listening to tool. Wtf🙄
Blame him he was being lazy I mentioned it at the beginning
Never listen to TOOL with one ear!!!
Trust me I tried to tell him
My daughter's favorite song at age five. Lol call her lil head banger.
Lol
Pure 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Keep going...alot of 'stories' in Tool music...go to the beginning.. Important songs on each album.. Then you can see progression of the band and their music...
And get those headphones out..lol
