This is part 2 of 6 videos coming where we go through the 2018 USA range. By the way, all Gibson guitars are USA made, but for some reason, the core line of Les Pauls, SGs, Firebirds, Explorers & Vs is always referred to as the USA line. The Memphis range (semi acoustics), the Montana range (acoustics) & Custom Shop range are all made in the USA, but Gibson just give those ranges different names. Confused - so are we, but its been that way for a long time!
Rob is playing through a Mesa Boogie Mark V:35 with a GFI Specular Reverb pedal & Lee is using a Marshall 2525 Jubilee head & is using an EP Boost & a Dunlop Mini Wah in the front & an MXR Carbon Copy & Boss Reverb in the loop.
Next up is the Les Paul Tribute vs the Faded - stay tuned!
Cheers!
Lee & Rob

can yall just make a video with the editor already?? he deserves so much recognition.. It's the little things, the beachballs and funny "re-wound" parts and funny noises. what a legend
Just when I tell myself I'm done with Gibson, they release something like the Classic and I want it.
You don't say! I want both the Classic and a Studio after this!
Then you are being fooled by their marketing tricks. There is absolutely nothing special in a Gibson LP Classic or any other Gibson, except excellent pickups, which make them sound really good, I'll have to admit. But if you put in Classic 57, or Burstbucker for that matter, any guitar would sound that way, and it would be much cheaper and the guitar wouldn't be an obsolete over weight piece of junk (unless u buy another LP copy that foolishly try to copy the LP).
dazanom I do not like gibsons pups especially the 57's. Burstbuckers are ok but there are much better pups out there
much better out there doesn't mean they aren't good.
Dazanom, I have an epiphone purely because I can't afford a Gibson, have an affinity strat the same reason. Everyone knows prs etc Are better but the big two still draw you in . Prestige, placebo who knows?
studio looks and sounds stunning, and it doesn't even need that binding
That case appearance was smooth. Nice guitars too.
Rory is an absolute genius
I just can't get over how awesome that studio sounds. It just freaking rocks.
Chappers sounds immense through that MESA amp. The clean channel is awesome. Buy one now good sir!
Thats the best looking studio theyve ever made
jamie c it's like the old 80's furniture my mum had, turned into a guitar , hated the mahogany furniture but absolutely love this guitar tho
jamie c I know right!? I'm in love with that guitar
Totally agree. I'm a sucker for dark brown guitars in general.
holy sheet that studio sounds epic on the intro.
MEGA gas for that P90 loaded classic. Wonderful guitar
Robs playing has been on point
'Smokeburst' - sounds like a type of grenade, looks like it smells of whiskey. Dear Santa..
Ok, that Studio is the nicest looking LP I've seen to date. Nice :)
Bought a 2017 Le Paul Tribute in honeyburst left handed from you guys at the beginning of this year, I love it just as much as my American strat
I keep going back and forth about wanting a Gibson Les Paul or not. On the one hand the reports of quality control issues is disconcerting. On the other hand, LOOK AT THOSE GORGEOUS GUITARS!
Chris House If it makes you feel any better, I bought a 2017 Gibson Les Paul Tribute last year and it was absolutely perfect when it arrived.
Honestly just look at whatever guitar you are getting in person to see if it is okay. That's the only way to know for sure
For me it's been a toss between a traditional or a PRS Zach Myers. Looked in a big store in Manchester and saw a lot of QC issues with some of the Gibsons on display but i think you just have to look around to get a good one, i've always wanted a Gibson tho so will just have to wait till i find the one.
I've had a few and haven't had an issue with any of them. Never had one unplayable come through the shop either. Every guitar has it's quirks that may take a certain level of adjustment through setup. I've played all kinds of brands that weren't setup well and would make someone think it was a POS. Not buying the "for that money they should be perfect". If they were to do professional level setups on every guitar they'd cost as much as PRS.
find a good one and they are brilliant. for me it isnt the quality control its the prices. studio lp wise just go used..
Lee was in an incredibly nice mood this video! Good work guys
2:50
it is rumored the note is still sustained today.
I just checked. Still going...........
Ahhh! you could have a bite to eat with that and come back.
Yeah, that damn note reached us here in Sweden agaaaaaain, our windows broke for the fourth time ... GOD DAMN...... THATS IT!!!!!!!! Im going to sue Andertons, damn maniacs!!!!!! My windoooooooooooows!!!!!!
after watching your channel for the past couple of years and trying to decide on what les paul to get for my first guitar im sold on the 2018 Gibson smokehouse burst. Gonna go pick her up on my birthday next weekend at my local Long and Mcquade store here in Newfoundland Canada. Cheers guys and thanks for putting out epic vids...you guys rock!!!!
Rob is smokin' that Smokehouse. Great leads and riffs in this one.
Another epic video guys! Prefering the Gibson range this year to last year although the pink Les Paul standard is maybe trying a bit too hard to be cool and modern! Even little details like the return of the poker chip on the traditional are welcome and I also love the classic! That goldtop just screams Another Brick in the Wall!!!!!!!!!!!
I have the one with p90s and j got to tell you its amazing. It is my baby and it feels great to play! Its funny because i was a fender fanboy and was positive i was going to buy a tele, but the moment i laid eyes on the les paul classic i couldn't resist.
This Boogie and the Jubilee are killing it! Please make a video about them!
The black classic looks great! Like a 54 custom and a standard had a baby. :P
Jam Junkies I just bought the ebony a couple of weeks ago. Freakin love it!
Love that Gold top!!!!! :D
FilippaQ Nice to see that I'm not the only girl that watches these videos!;)
Agreed, it's such a classic look, and there's something that's just so rock'n'roll about a driven P90.
i have a Les Paul just like that
That studio with chappers at the start looks stunning
Dude, I know im really late on this one, but are we not talking about the way Lee was layin' it down at the end with that studio? Here was playing inspired on this one. Amazing effort men!
I've got a set of classic 57's in one of my Les Pauls and they are absolutely fantastic pickups. Some people are going to be very happy if they check out a Studio.
Wow! The Captain absolutely shredding it at the end. Just me or has The Captain really come out of his shell and been playing way better in the last while? I love his blues style.
Dude, That Studio finish looks awesome.
Rob really got along well with that Studio.
Totally respect those who are lovin' on the P-90 LP Classic--but I am so happy that I snagged a 2017 Classic model with the 57 Classic hummers before they made the switch. What an amazing guitar. They seem to have consigned the Classic to a niche market now with the single-coils, but no complaints since I already have the one I want. :-)
That smokehouse burst color on the Studio is just bad ass and the neck binding makes it even better.
Take off that pickguard!
Third good year in a row for Gibson. Incredible improvement from 2015 and a few years prior.
You should update the information above to "Rob is playing through a Mesa Boogie Mark V:35 with a GFI Specular Reverb pedal & Lee is using a finger in his ear". Thanks for the free tremolo Lee 11:31
kelven1976 pretty good 😂
P90s are my favorite pickups for les pauls by far. I've had one for years, and I love it
Wow! The P-90 Classic will be a top-seller I'm sure! Finally a non custom shop P-90 Les Paul that's not a Studio or Tribute.
Proper nonsen loaded Cpt+Chapper video, love it ... also those LPs looks adorable :D
I recently got a job at my local music store. I'm loving it there.
I have a belly button.
nprenger77 I to have one.
Chappers sold me on that Smokehouse Studio . I Went out and bought my own two days ago. Thanks guys , I love your videos.
And... do you still have it? Any good? I’m thinking bout getting a studio? Cheers 👍
Both are beautiful guitars
That finish on the studio model is stunning, and surprisingly good! I'm really liking the classic...has all the appointments I like on a Les Paul, especially the P90s. I'm getting one...
Could you guys do an "electronics war" video comparing whether the coil taps on the Gibson les Paul gets closer to a strat sound or whether the s-1 switch on the fender gets closer to a Gibson les Paul? I love the options both companies have included on their modern axes and would love to see the two platforms compared.
Lee just keeps getting better and better! You're killing it buddy!
I don't think you are selling guitars anymore. I think you have moved on to showing us just how fantastic guitars are. Thank you
The binding on the Studio looks fabtabulous!
That Gibson studio is sweet. As soon as I can afford one I think I'm gonna pick one up. Lost one years ago that I loved. I don't understand the hate they get. Great guitars
Oh man, the Ebony Classic it´s too beautiful
The two best models in the range, I think. Would like to try and pick one up next year.
spent the whole video marvelling at the sudden appearance of the guitar case
Just ordered my Smokehouse Burst Studio based on this video. What a beautiful guitar and it arrives in 2 day's time... 😀😀😀👍
Have fun with your new guitar. I have her too and I love her.
@@AD1978leo all going well. It's gone in for a set up but the sound is incredible when driven through a 5 watt tube amp. I've also added a Honey Pot 🍯 pedal and the sound is lovely grungy dirty blues. 👍😊
@@AD1978leo you'll love it. I think it's worth getting set up properly. Mine is about £100 to get done. I'm not a pro but I know that it will get me off to a good start
My god the opening playing on this video is simply majestic!!! You guys may say it was merely random but wow it sounded awesome
I bought a LP Studio in the 80's, probably around 85 for $800.00! It was beauty too. So, they have been making them a long time.
I retract my previous comment. That studio is definitely something to think about.
Most beautifully musical intro jam, great work Rob, great work Lee, always great to enjoy your visit
what a beautiful instrument that studio is, sounds great also.
That smokehouse burst is delicious in the video... yet on the website it looks too shiny and behind glass (if that makes sense)
the wood behind the gold top of the classic is also beautiful
Chris Franklyn It looks like barbeque sauce to me. Looks great though.
I've got one, and the photos online don't quite do it justice. It's not as in your face as a flamed top, but it looks incredible.
It looks so amazing here, but the one in my local music store has a significantly lighter fretboard colour that kind of ruins the whole look. I've seen that on a few other images of the guitar online too. I do wonder why that is -- it concerns me that it's so inconsistent.
I own it, it all depends how much light is on it.
Finally a video on a p90 goldtop, LIGHT THE BEACONS! XD
Always loved the les Paul but I can never get the best out of humbuckers. I managed to get an ebony classic with p90s. It’s the les Paul I’ve been after for 10 years. Absolutely amazing
just found an old stock one a few days ago here in Canada....... paid for it today and its being shipped tomorrow.............. i cant wait to get my hands on it ....... I love black les pauls
Cheers to Captain who is getting better and tastier on his licks.BUY a p-90 guitar Cap ,it suits you well
Aaaaaahhhhhhh The return of the soft - yet hard output - tone of the p90 :-)
Great stuff. Very well edited. The awkward/uncomfortable tension at the end was timed to perfection and funny as hell. Like a cross between The Office and Faulty Towers.
Your guys' playing sounded so good in this episode! My end goal is to be able to play as good as Rob some day. It's a high set goal and I doubt I'll reach it but his playing is just brilliant! Best channel on UA-cam in my opinion.
Loving the Smokehouse Burst colour!!!
That pause at the end was incredibly painful, Rory. And Lee was obviously off his meds, while Rob is just off. Great episode! BTW, the Yamaha PAC 611 HFM and VFM have Seymour Duncan P90 in the neck and Seymour Duncan Custom 5 humbucker in the bridge. A poor man's Gibson killer, this guitar is!
They should have done the black and blue classics with white plastic
I love how they put the neck binding on the studio .
Lee just keeps getting better and better.
These two were so much better than the traditional and the standard. Anyone else agree?
YES! and looking at the viewers comments i think most will agree with you!
I think that's due to Std. and Trad. being mostly rehashes of 2017, but the Studio and Classic got a big overhaul, in a good way. Lots of people want binding without paying 2k and a P90 Les Paul, both things that haven't come around in a long time.
In terms of value, I'd agree. However, if Gibson offered me any one I wanted, I would be taking home a Standard. The P90s sounded great though!
Chappers! I love what you played at 13:00, when you drop tuned! I'd really like to hear more. Is that a piece you wrote in Dorje, or off the cuff? It really got my attention! Thanks guys!
The Studio has actually been in there catalog since 1983!!! And its a beast of a Guitar :D
Yes, Rob, that absolutely was a very good impression of an American accent, although with a bit more gain / bite than you'd typically hear, and that's coming from a Texan!
Awh Rory, you make these videos so much more pleasing to watch...
The studio through that Mesa Boogie 🤤
With this intro I never knew rob c. Was that good as a guitar player Well done ! Normally he just shred with no feelings !
The P90s make the best middle position I've ever heard on a Gibson. Nice vid fellas.
Chappers with some killer new riffs, glad to see you guys still having a great time doing this, cause i loooove watchin it =D
7:29 the smoothest lick the captain has ever played. Rock on man!
Yesssss for the GFI Specular Reverb 2! Permanent stay on my pedalboard! It's that amazing, really!
That Smokehouse Burst is the sexiest, most beautiful color on a les paul I've Ever Seen. That has to become a standard color for every les paul model in the future. That with a relic'd finish. Please.
The tone of that Les Paul Studio with that reverb pedal is incredible!
I agree! What a fat sound!
I read so many comments about how Gibbys are too expensive, especially when compared to PRS. Last I checked prices were pretty comparative for both manufactures. There’s a geet for everyone’s budget from both companies. There’s crossover between the two, but for the most part you’re either a PRS or a Gibson player. As a buyer, you’re either on a budget, spending mid-range or high end dollars. In my experience, there’s pros and cons to buying a geet from either company. All my heroes played Gibbys and that’s what I enjoy playing
Just played the P90 Classic today. I had the same confused reaction as lots of others. I was very aware of all the negative stuff going on with Gibson and simultanously craved that guitar
Just on that side discussion about Phil Collins. To hear him in a progressive non commercial setting check out the band Brand X with John Goodsall on guitar.
All Gibson and Epiphone model should have a smokehouse burst version from now on. Its frckn gorgeous everyone wants it
The 2018 Les Paul BFG is probably the best guitar of the lineup. It's definitely the greatest deal. Shame you skipped over this model.
Those guitars will be sellers! They've got the best pickups in the entire lineup!
Tasty playing in the intro there Rob! Sounds good enough to sell me on it already.
That one lick is going to sell THOUSANDS of Studios!
K Line San Bernardino does have 2 P 90s, don't know if it's considered a modern guitar, but they are hand made in St Louis MO, USA.
Sustain for daysss!!
That Slash style intro was amazing!
That studio is gorgeous.
2:25 I can’t believe that sustains like that.
I own the 2018 studio like the one in this video and I can confirm this is accurate
I got the 2019 cherry burst. I love it.
I just got a GIBSON 2018 TRIBUE AND I LOVE IT I HAVE BEEN WANTING A GIBSON FOR AWHILE BEACUASE I LOVE SLASH!
i think one of the biggest changes in the 2018 line is the 24.7 neck on the Studio AND the binding on the Studio. I like it though, and is a cost effective way for those who cannot buy the Standard, if you always wanted that neck feel. not crazy about the color options, but those changes are very cool.
Tasty lick 13minutes in. Love it!
I'm from Louisiana, USA. Self proclaimed home of tailgates. All you need is a vehicle, a spot, some brews, some friends, and some grub. Take it to the next level with bbq, games, and Big PA speakers playing terrible mainstream country at obnoxious volume levels lol. The sky is the limit really. BTW Lee's American accent was super fun and yes could easily be a "Southern Dad" hahahaha
I Love P-90's Ultimate blues tone for me.
Somebody needs to tell Gibson that they need to bring back the les Paul junior because damn those were amazing workhorse guitars, and one of their best and most popular models imo.
It's not often that I audibly laugh at a UA-cam video but the ending of this one... :-) Fantastic editing!
