      Hey Scott, should we strengthen our shoulder muscles first? I heard bicep training with weak shoulders can cause a snap during the concentric stage

    I've been using your videos for ideas and guidance since I started going back to the gym everyday last August. I'm still focused on weight loss but have added muscle. I'm still a beginner. thanks for making these. I'm not ready for this one yet. I lost 160lbs and I just have 40 more pounds to lose to reach my goal weight of 180. thanks to your videos I'll be ready to transition to hypertrophy training once I hit that goal. I'll enjoy the challenge of gaining weight, "muscle" instead of cardio, cardio, cardio.

    • @ScottHermanFitness
      @ScottHermanFitness  7 років тому +1

      That is awesome to hear man!! So proud of you!! Are you doing weight training at the same time though? ANd keeping protein high so you don't lose too much muscle you already have? Let us know if you need more help with that last 40lbs in our forums! www.MuscularStrength.com/forum

      @thereare4lights17 7 років тому

      thanks for taking time to respond. I'm eating at least 100g of protein should be 140g or more to Gain muscle. I'm hitting it hard every day and the last 40 won't be around much longer. I'll check that forum.

      +Jelly Gore yeah cable curls are amazing bro. Especially if you lean back

  • @StarrshProductions
    @StarrshProductions 7 років тому

    For Beginners (like me about 3 months into the gym with muscle umbalance in biceps): Try the thing Jeff Cavaliere proposed: Get to the cable machine, do usual bicep curls till concentric failure, then static to isometric failure, then eccentric to failure. The basic problem for me is missing mind-muscle connection (and this is physical guys, your nerves aren't that well attached to your biceps in this case) on one side. So the aim should be to recover this so one can actually progress (I could hardly actively flex my left biceps at the start of my training). For me this is really working and I am able to control more recently. It takes a long time, but then again, youre essentially bridging nerve gaps with this so its understandable.

    • @ScottHermanFitness
      @ScottHermanFitness  7 років тому

      But are you only training your smaller/weaker arm? Because you should still be training both, otherwise your weak arm could become your strong arm, and then you're back to having an imbalance the opposite way.

      ScottHermanFitness thanks for your replay ; I hope that you add some exercises in calisthenics ; because lot of people prefer to do such like these exercises because firstly they can't access to the gym every day and doing the same exercises with weightlifting ; personally I find this unimportant to doing these routine every single day ; especially when my wrists started to hurt and so I had to stop weight lifting for a while and maybe forever ; thanks Scott and we're always looking for your new training videos .

    Hey Scott I really like your videos. I'm 16 almost 17. I started going to the gym with my friend a couple weeks ago (he's been going for a year now). For now since I'm starting I've been following his program, since I'm a beginner, which consists of
    Monday: Dynamic Upper Body
    Tuesday: Dynamic Lower Body/Heavy Shoulders
    Wednesday: Rest day
    Thursday: Heavy Upper body
    Friday: Heavy Lower Body/Dynamic Shoulders
    On uppers we do bench, pull ups, dips, t-bar rows, barbell curls, and tricep extensions.
    On lowers we do squats or deadlifts, leg extensions, leg curls, hack squats (only friday), calf raises, shoulder press, and rear delts extensions.
    I was wondering if i should stick with that for a bit and then maybe start my own routine with slightly different exercises just so it's more based on my strengths and weaknesses.
    Also I wanted to know if you had any tips or anything to say about the routine. Sorry for the long comment i'm really curious because i don't want to do the wrong stuff for me

    Yeh the decline is so important and people often forget that and just quickly lower the weight without making an effort to concentrate on the motion as you go down and keep as much tension on the muscle as possible :))))

      A lot of people take this advice and then overdo the eccentric time. It needs to be slow but not too long otherwise it becomes counter productive.

    This video got a little wordy for me. To simplify for my simple mind, as I understand, the growth of the bicep occurs more on the way down (negative) then when bringing the weight up. Per your example, you seems more focus on controlling the weight going down with less concern when bringing it up (keeping form in mind). If I'm on the right track, then for bicep growth, its best to do as heavy a weight that can be properly controlled for 8 reps. And how many sets - 3..4..5??

    • @ScottHermanFitness
      @ScottHermanFitness  7 років тому

      Yes my friend that is the jist of it. Sounds like you understood perfectly :-) I would do 3-4 sets of my cheat and recover method - I will have a program coming soon so you can follow that!
      Check out my other programs in the meantime - muscularstrength.com/Full-Workout-Programs

    Scott, I ALWAYS learn something and take away new ideas whenever I watch your videos - thank you! I seriously appreciate your honesty with everything you talk about. I'm so sorry if you've already answered this question before but when do you think it would be okay for someone to start trying cheat and recover? In other words, how long should someone have been weight lifting before trying cheat and recover?

    • @ScottHermanFitness
      @ScottHermanFitness  7 років тому

      Glad you enjoy the vids Chelsea!!
      Well, it would be AT LEAST 1 year, but maybe more if during the first year you didn't know what you were doing, and still don't really have a good understanding of mind-muscle connection.

    Skip the curls and utilize strongman exercises like keg carries to really explode your biceps. Mine haven't been responding for over half of a year and no matter whose advice I took regarding curls - be it Scott's or Jeff Cavaliere's for example - the damn things wouldn't grow.
    Getting into powerlifting routines has helped my slumbering muscle groups awaken and grow.

    • @ScottHermanFitness
      @ScottHermanFitness  7 років тому

      Different things work for different people - did you try cheat and recover training on them though?

    • @toximan2008
      @toximan2008 7 років тому

      Not in the specific way you've described, but I really want to do it your way! It's fun to do all kinds of lifts, but I don't think it's that efficient to limit oneself to only one way of executing an exercise. Thanks for tips, Scott! I love the videos.
