Living in a culture focused heavily on outward appearance, with many churches and Christians sadly looking quite similar in that regard, and a Biblical view that is quite different, this is a sensitive topic I admire your courage to address. Instead of sharing my thoughts, I encourage everyone to go to Scripture for the truths in regards to beauty.

I appreciate your thoughtful answer to the question from your viewer. I wonder what she means by homely? Poorly maintained appearance or simply not considered conventionally attractive or both? Why do people get so mad about the concept of looking good and improving one's apearance?
I used to be a fashion stylist in NYC many years ago for individuals and was shocked how many people were uncomfortable with finding that out upon meeting me. AND in turn they became self conscious about themselves, it was such a strange experience. I guess they felt judged even though I wasn't judging them. Fun Fact: in NYC people ask immediately upon first meeting what one's profession is and judge people the second they find out, it seems like looks might be seconary to profession there. 😕😂
It made me realize how unwilling people are to invest in and take pride in their appearance (I mean joyful self care pride NOT prideful arrogance in how one looks). I ultimately quit being a stylist for a few reasons but mainly out of sheer frustration from people's resistance to change. It was exhausting after meeting people at networking events just to have them look glassy eyed and uninterested in what I had to say after mentioning that I was a fashion stylist.
With that being said, I have a feeling that people with a certain type of lazy mindset especially women with that mindset will attempt to endlessly dispute you on the importance of maintaining one's appearance, self improvement in general, even updating one's attitude for greater success in life. Some people are just not ready when the proverbial teacher appears but some are ready. With the internet, there's more and more people ready to learn fortunately.

I do not understand why we as women are so offended and intimidated by beauty.

They are taught that beauty doesn’t matter, which is not Biblical.
