    The reason for socks in to not leave impressions on the floor. The surface is dry so there's no issue with chemicals but sometimes heavy work boots can leave shoe prints on sealed surfaces.

    I notice some people just spray stain and then seal it whereas some spray stain and neutralize it with baking soda and scrub the stain and rinse with water before sealing it. Does both work?

    • @directcolors
      @directcolors  2 роки тому

      Johnny, both will work. It is just a difference in stains and their processes. Acid stain requires neutralizing because it is an elevated PH. But the other stains do not require this step and this is why you see two different processes.

  • @directcolors
    @directcolors  11 років тому +2

    The stain is inert after neutralizing so it can't stain anything after that. I live on a slight incline and when I acid stained my driveway, I was concerned about the same thing. It left no color whatsoever on the street around my home. You only use spikes when applying the acid stain because it is a chemically reactive stain. If you walk on wet stain, you will leave a foot impression. I recommend applying the stain using a foam brush for vertical surfaces or apply our Deco Gel Gelled Acid Stain

    During the prepping stage, should you fill any cracks? If so, what would you recommend using for best end results for overall colour appearance?

    • @directcolors
      @directcolors  Рік тому +1

      Hi Ryan! This is personal preference, some customers choose to fill the cracks, and some choose to use it as extra characteristic. If you choose to fill the cracks, we recommend using our Patch-RX Patching Compound, and here is a link to this product in case you'd like to look it over, directcolors.com/concrete-patching-compound/. It is important to keep in mind that being this is a different concrete than what you have, it is likely to appear different than the rest of the surface.

    SOOO.. Just to see if i have it right. thats another method different than the one they poured colored powder?!, in ur method the acid is coloring/staining the concrete?.. Can u know which colors it will be at the end before u start?!

    • @directcolors
      @directcolors  9 років тому

      +Roi Azulay That's right this is a typical gray concrete floor. You can add concrete pigment for a more solid color or acid stain for something with more color variation. As long as you mix the correct ratio of concrete pigment to concrete, you should have a very close approximation to the color on the color chart once the concrete is fully cured. The acid staining process is considerably more unpredictable as it is a chemically reactive stain that also relies on the quality of the concrete to create the color. Overlays are generally mineral rich and take acid stain beautifully. For more information on concrete pigment, check out the product page, www.directcolors.com/product/concrete-pigment/. If you have other questions, feel free to contact us at 877-255-2656. Thank you.

      Hi RebeccaJosh Potts! More than likely, this concrete passed the water absorption test, and in turn didn't require the etching step. Please let us know if we can be of further assistance, we're happy to help! 😊️

    Where can i find a stain closest to white or lighter color. I don't like any of the dark colors on the market and can't find white or beige acid stain color. Why is that? How can i create a light acid stain color?

    Few questions.
    After neutralizing, do you just let the liquid run down driveway? seems like it could stain
    2 coats of sealer, wouldn't that require you to use spikes on second coat?
    any tips for doing the sides of the garage floor?

    i have cleaned my wash room tiles by acid.. but it remains the mark in full wash room.. it leaves white big marks in brown tiles.. i could not get rid of tht. pleas suggest me the way to rid ..

    • @directcolors
      @directcolors  7 років тому

      If you are cleaning with muriatic acid (this is not a product we sell or recommend for use on concrete), it does often damage tile or concrete surfaces if it is applied too in too strong a solution with water. I would recommend sealing with a concrete sealer improve the appearance of the tiles. Thank you.

    Can I acid stain floor leveling underlayment

    • @directcolors
      @directcolors  2 роки тому

      Ruger, you sure can. The acid stain often times reacts really well with a re-surfacer or concrete overlay.

    How grippy is it wet and dry? Looks slippery

    • @directcolors
      @directcolors  3 роки тому

      Muds132, there is a chance that it can be slippery when wet. We do have an anti-slip additive that you can apply to the last coat of sealer to add some anti slippage, directcolors.com/anti-slip-sealer-additive/

    I'm guessing that this demonstration uses a sealer that doesn't have to be "pushed on, only" when applied?

    • @directcolors
      @directcolors  9 років тому +1

      +cherimalak How the sealer is applied is determined by the applicator. I typically spray outdoor solvent based sealers from a fence and deck sprayer. If you're using an applicator as opposed to a roller, you should attempt to apply it in one direction as much as possible and keep your applicator wet to avoid streaking. Though this is also true with a roller, backrolling is an acceptable technique particularly when applying water based sealers. Hope this information is helpful and thanks for watching our video!

    • @directcolors
      @directcolors  4 роки тому +1

      You can use either we just recommend our customers to spray because Acid Stains are pressure sensitive and sometimes can leave harsh lines by applying with other methods.

    Why sometimes the foot prints appear when neutralising the stain. What am I doing wrong

    • @directcolors
      @directcolors  9 років тому

      +Elier Flores Acid stain is a chemically reactive stain. If you step on it when it's wet and actively processing on the floor, it will leave an impression of your foot on the concrete. You can cover it up by spraying additional stain on the surface but I would avoid the problem by wearing acid stain resistant shoes like we have on our website so the sole of your shoe never touches the ground, www.directcolors.com/product/acid-stain-resistent-spiked-shoes/ Thank you.

    can the concrete have a rough surface? like exterior stairs?

    • @directcolors
      @directcolors  8 років тому +1

      Yes, you can acid stain any concrete that is qualifies as a good candidate for staining. The texture wouldn't prohibit you from doing so. Stairs would need to be clean and free of any previous paint or sealer before they could be stained. I'd take a look at our how to acid stain guide, www.directcolors.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/concrete_acid_stain_howto.pdf, to make sure the stairs can be successfully stained before you begin. Thank you!

    hot tire pickup?

    • @directcolors
      @directcolors  7 років тому +1

      Thanks for your comment. You do need to be careful about your choice of sealer in a garage. We recommend our Sprayable Satin Finish Sealer, www.directcolors.com/product/sprayable-satin-finish-concrete-sealer/, for a semi-gloss finish. It offers good protection from spills and enhances an acid stained floor if you choose to do that. Because it is a semi-gloss, it is less susceptible to hot tire pick up as well. If you would prefer a matte finish and particularly if you live in an area where salt is frequently used in the winter, I would recommend our DCI Penetrating Lithium Hardener Sealer, www.directcolors.com/product/dci-lithium-penetrating-sealerhardener/ . Please let us know if you have any further questions.

    Good idea to wear Acid proof foot wear, Acid Burns Skin, socks are not a good idea to protect the feet,

    • @directcolors
      @directcolors  9 років тому

      +rory bellamy That's right. Socks should only be worn when applying the concrete sealer. Acid stain proof footwear or plastic bags over the shoes are a far better plan with acid staining. Here's a link to our how-to acid stain that provides the details, www.directcolors.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/concrete_acid_stain_howto.pdf. Thank you!

    PRO TIP: DO NOT do a stain on a garage floor. It’s an absolutely horrible idea. There is a very good reason everyone epoxies their garages and doesn’t stain them. That stained garage floor will look good for about a day or two.

    • @directcolors
      @directcolors  3 роки тому

      If you prep your concrete properly, you can stain a garage floor with tremendous results. It's all in the prep work :)

    • @TheCureThatKillz
      @TheCureThatKillz 3 роки тому

      @@directcolors yes, I agree. How long will that stained garage floor look “tremendous” for?? We both know not for very long at all. Again, there is a reason you will very very rarely see stained garage floors. Because there are much better applications that are much better suited for garage floors.
