Your comment is a good reminder for me to pull that up and see if it’s mouldy underneath.
Hi great video. Planning on doing this to my basement soon. Question for ya, what type of sand paper did you use on the concrete sander for cleaning your floors? Thank you
Hey Jason, I rented that orbital sander from Home Depot and they basically had 3 different sanding pads. They’re kinda like scotchbrite texture. The white one was too soft so I used the black and green. Long story short: they’ll have what you need at the tool rental.
Just started my house build and I too want to go this route. I hadn’t considered the water base option until seeing your video. Floors look great BTW. 👍 from me and you got a new sub. Greg
Nice Greg!! Been living with this floor for a year now and it’s super durable. If you’re building, protect the floor with Ram Board and will make it 1000 times easier when it comes time to stain.
That’s an awesome question. I guess it would depend on what sealer you use. Maybe you could find a specific sealer. I am very very very far away from salt water so this definitely is not my strong suit.
I love the video! But I have questions about the prep work. Did you go in before hand and smooth out or resurface any of the concrete? Or was that the base slab?
I have watched many times, I think I'm going to do it. One question I have is you mentioned you chose oak? But you say it looks terracotta and terracotta is a color option. So just verifying that it is really oak? I want mine to look the same, it looks great!
@@emileegood6160 first thanks for watching! Yes indeed the bottle I used was labeled oak. If I had put on heavier coats it definitely would have turned a darkish oak colour so walk gently into that dark night. I can’t stress it enough: if you’re going for a similar shade as mine, go very very light with the first coat because you can’t go back if you put too much on. Good luck! You got this.
6:00 what head(s) did you use on the floor machine for cleaning? Doing ours tomorrow, didn’t know if you used a scotch brite pad or a brush head and then sanding disc?
@@RinkVideo awesome thank you so much! I’m following your technique, except prepping the floors before framing, then re-cleaning, staining and sealing after drywall
@@willeast7985 deadly! I highly highly recommend using Ram Board (or similar product) to protect the floor until you’re done painting the drywall. It’s expensive but if you do a good job with the Ram Board you shouldn’t have to clean the floor a second time.
Hmmmm that's an interesting question. I feel like if that was an option I would not have rolled mine but I can't say for sure. Which is odd because I sprayed my concrete driveway with the same sprayer. I feel like maybe it's too thick to spray maybe? Anyway, short answer is I'm not sure.
I notice some people just spray stain and then seal it whereas some spray stain and neutralize it with baking soda and scrub the stain and rinse with water before sealing it. Does both work?
@Jonny Taco Outdoors that's for an acid based stain. His is water based. Acid gets great results but it's time driven meaning the longer you wait to neutralize the more the color changes. Google acid based sealer.
Question, for a basement the sealer used, will it protect from radon? Do you need to use primer? or can you clean the floor, then stain with a sprayer with a pattern, then use a sealer? Also want to use eco friendly products safe for for people and pets.
Jay! I’ll start by saying that Im no expert in radon and that you should consult a pro! From what I understand, radon can’t penetrate concrete. When I built this house, here in Calgary, I had thought that spray foaming the basement would eliminate any concerns. But I was wrong. The City still wanted me to use a specific concrete caulking where the foundation meets the slab and then around any pipes coming through the slab. My inspection was done when it was still just original concrete so I can’t see how a sealer would make any difference. But I could be totally wrong. If you’re in the same parts as me, there’s a concrete supply store in Calgary that carry the Eco Stain called Hard Rock. They have all the colours. It’s a great store and you don’t need a contractor account.
Was wondering how its holding up to moving furniture around and kids playing on it, I'm building a small weekend home and we want something easy and price conscious on a slab foundation, with lots of pets and kids running in and out.??
I got same kit, about to lay down degreaser today. How long do I have to wait to lay degreaser after sweeping & mopping? Than after when can I stain after degreaser? Than after stain when can I seal?... sorry brother I'm working on room as of right now. I bought this cuz of this video... did a good job, no lie brother the prep is pretty tedious...
Bruh. Read the directions but my best guess is: no wait to degrease after sweeping. Stain once degreaser is dry. Stain will literally dry in no time. The sealer is something that will take a couple days depending on ventilation and humidity. That’s just a guess without the product in front of me but the directions should explain more clearly.
@Rink 🤣 yeah I know... not da instructions type of fool. I just jump in & ok this does this & that does that 😳 🤣... room is coming along good. Got pics of progress on BBQ pages on FB & IG.
Our floors in our house we’re working on are currently brown, I’m assuming already stained. Do you think we could do this process over it and have it work?
Get yourself some Valspar prep, stain, and sealer. All for under $90. You’ll have money left to buy the materials needed for masking and application while staying under $140.😉
Super helpful video! How many coats of stain did you end up using? Looking to stain our basement concrete floors and trying to determine how much product to purchase
Meg! Glad you liked. I only did a couple super light coats so I hardly used any stain. Can’t remember if I mentioned it in the video but I think I had 4-6 bottles of stain but only ended up using 2. (Maybe not even) I didn’t want it too dark so I diluted it more than what was recommended and I sprayed it on super thin. Like super duper thin because I didn’t want to overdo it. Long story short: 2 thin coats and only let the first coat dry for maybe 15 minutes.
Just saw this video and considering same process for our basement. We also live in a cold, dry climate (Montana). Question: How is this holding up after two years? Did you just use one color for your floor? Any part of the process you might change if doing this again? Thanks for the info and looking forward to getting ours going!
Thanks! After looking at our basement floor I can see we will probably spend the most time cleaning the floor of paint and drywall mud - but we are going to do it! Appreciate you getting back to me so quickly @@RinkVideo
It was way more than the directions recommended but I was just eyeballing and experimenting. I did two very very light coats. The first coat was dry in a minutes.
@Rink My husband is been very resistant about this flooring because of ECHO. We had a small party in our basement for my daughter and it was so Loud with echo with the plain concrete floor that he doesn't think we can keep a concrete floor. How can we make that work? I like the look and I really do not want carpet down there. ANY SUGGESTIONS?
I’m on Team Husband here Dani. The concrete certainly causes added reverb. I have a few area carpets down which helps but my ceilings are 9’ high and I don’t have much on the walls so the sound is noticeably terrible. That said, I’m not a fan of carpet so I consider reverb to be the lesser of two evils.

Love the way your floor turned out. Do you think this would be OK to do on an area that's gets flooded from salt water?
That’s an awesome question. I guess it would depend on what sealer you use. Maybe you could find a specific sealer. I am very very very far away from salt water so this definitely is not my strong suit.
Super informative and the steps were throughly explained! Very helpful👍🏼
Scotch bright head for sure. They have green black and white and white was too soft to do anything. I think green worked the best
Turned out beautiful!!!
Love your personality!
Thanks for the video
Thank you so much!!
Can you use a pressure sprayer to apply the sealer as well? Was thinking is would be more even but wasnt sure if you would get clogging.
Love your video. Can you spray on your sealer instead of rolling it?
Hmmmm that's an interesting question. I feel like if that was an option I would not have rolled mine but I can't say for sure. Which is odd because I sprayed my concrete driveway with the same sprayer. I feel like maybe it's too thick to spray maybe? Anyway, short answer is I'm not sure.
"Definitely wear a mask!" LOL like the one on top of your head? Funny guy. Fun video. Thanks for sharing.
Would you recommend spike shoes?
@@rsalazar05 I wouldn’t to be honest. I didn’t leave any footprints and it dries so fast.
Can you use this with a textured stamped concrete floor
Looking forward to doing my entire basement, next steps soon
found this channel for the c70 video and now I’ve torn out all my carpet and prepping the slab🤣
@@TradeshowThomas Lolol we’re the same person: I look up a recipe for dinner and an hour later I’m looking for land to build an off-grid cabin. 😂
@@RinkVideo also, your basement has the highest ceiling i’ve ever seen
Help me fix my this Christmas,I have a rough floor with dust no money to fix it 50-100 dollar can help me fix it. Thank you
Awesome work brother, Really awesome stuff! Was wondering, what was the damage like? Roughly...? $$$,$$$.00
Thanks for watching RG. All-in was probably less than $1k including renting the floor polisher etc. probably somewhere between $509-$1000
I notice some people just spray stain and then seal it whereas some spray stain and neutralize it with baking soda and scrub the stain and rinse with water before sealing it. Does both work?
Jonny Taco is a rad name! Buddy I have no clue about the baking soda method. Never even heard of it before now.
@@RinkVideo they say you need to Neutralize the acid before sealing it. I got all my stuff plan on starting Saturday
Would a lighter color show more imperfections?
I’m no expert but I would assume darker would accentuate imperfections.
Was wondering how its holding up to moving furniture around and kids playing on it, I'm building a small weekend home and we want something easy and price conscious on a slab foundation, with lots of pets and kids running in and out.??

This was great to watch… you sold me the idea…
Let’s go!!!!
It looks Awesome!!
Hmmm, my gut feeling is no. Only way to find out is to sand your brown floor and see what happens.
The website no longer works. Are they still in business?
Get yourself some Valspar prep, stain, and sealer. All for under $90. You’ll have money left to buy the materials needed for masking and application while staying under $140.😉
Super helpful video! How many coats of stain did you end up using? Looking to stain our basement concrete floors and trying to determine how much product to purchase
Meg! Glad you liked. I only did a couple super light coats so I hardly used any stain. Can’t remember if I mentioned it in the video but I think I had 4-6 bottles of stain but only ended up using 2. (Maybe not even)
I didn’t want it too dark so I diluted it more than what was recommended and I sprayed it on super thin. Like super duper thin because I didn’t want to overdo it.
Long story short: 2 thin coats and only let the first coat dry for maybe 15 minutes.
@@RinkVideo Good to know! Appreciate your reply :)
How many coats did you end up doing ?? I am on coat 3 now starting to look better .
@@Furianbl I only did two very light coats.
Great job man
Just saw this video and considering same process for our basement. We also live in a cold, dry climate (Montana). Question: How is this holding up after two years? Did you just use one color for your floor? Any part of the process you might change if doing this again? Thanks for the info and looking forward to getting ours going!
Hey MacDoodle here’s a follow up vid with some good info: ua-cam.com/video/HcqGyrDAe9Y/v-deo.htmlsi=V8Ul5p6J5kRLSG9W
Thanks! After looking at our basement floor I can see we will probably spend the most time cleaning the floor of paint and drywall mud - but we are going to do it! Appreciate you getting back to me so quickly @@RinkVideo
what was your dilution ratio stain to water? and how many coats of stain did you do? thanks
It was way more than the directions recommended but I was just eyeballing and experimenting. I did two very very light coats. The first coat was dry in a minutes.
Looks amazing!! Great job! I enjoyed watching this. I wish I had a basement lol
Glad you liked it!!
